Essex woman's warning after drink spiked at Ibiza Rocks

A woman who became ill after her drink was spiked on holiday has been warning others to take extra care via a social media campaign. Layla Boudaboussa, 26, from Chigwell, Essex, was at an Ibiza Rocks event with her friends and her mother on the Spanish island on 11 July when she began to feel unwell. "I felt very drunk and I thought, I had not drunk enough to be feeling how I felt," she said. Ibiza Rocks has been approached for comment. Her mother, Jeanette Boudaboussa told her daughter that her eyes "were rolling in the back of my head"."They tried to stand me up and I couldn't stand, I couldn't speak. I was foaming at the mouth as well, apparently, which was quite traumatic to hear," the 26-year-old was taken to a medical room at the venue, where staff ran some tests."The ran a finger-prick test apparently, and that's how they determined that the level of alcohol in my system was quite low," she said. "So it meant I wasn't drunk and that obviously led to the conclusion of drugs. That's when they confirmed I had been spiked."She said she regained consciousness 15 hours later, but could barely stand up. Ms Boudaboussa said when her mother explained to her that her drink had been spiked she felt "tearful and really confused".Her GP in the UK told her she thought her drink had been spiked with the illegal drugs GHB and ketamine. "I'm starting to feel better now, but the first week was quite difficult," she said. "I kept falling asleep. I fell asleep eating my dinner."Ms Boudaboussa said her memory had also been affected and she had become added her mother was told by a manager at the event that spiking incidents had been happening on a daily Boudaboussa decided to post her experience on TikTok to warn others and her video has been viewed more than 269,000 times."I just wanted to turn a really negative experience into a positive one," she Boudaboussa said many people, including mothers, had contacted her and were buying drink covers for their sons and believed more could be done by venues to prevent drink spiking - including the use of film stickers placed over glasses once a drink has been poured. Ibiza Rocks events resume just days after second Scot plunges from balcony

Evan Thomson from Aberdeen, and Gary Kelly from Dundee, both died this month after falling from their hotel balconies in Ibiza. Ibiza Rocks have resumed their events just days after a second Scot plunged to his death from a balcony at the hotel. ‌ Evan Thomson, from Aberdeen, fell to his death from his balcony on Monday July 7. The 26-year-old tragically fell from the sixth floor while on holiday celebrating his birthday. ‌ Just two weeks later, on Monday, Gary Kelly, 19, from Dundee died after he fell from the third-floor of the hotel just after midnight. ‌ Following their tragic deaths, Ibiza Rocks announced they would be suspending all events. We told on Thursday, however, the hotel were still selling party tickets despite saying they were pausing future events. ‌ And bosses have now confirmed investigations have concluded - with their schedule set to resume tomorrow. A statement from Ibiza Rocks read: "Over the past week, we've focused on supporting those sadly affected by recent incidents and paused our events programme out of respect for that process. "During this time, we've taken the opportunity to review the strong safety measures already in place across the hotel and look at where we can go further. As we always have, we continue to work with independent inspectors, external experts and listen to feedback from our team, guests and the wider community to keep improving and strengthening our approach. ‌ "We're also being clearer about our expectations around respectful behaviour and personal responsibility. A safe and positive environment is something we all contribute to, so we're encouraging all guests to look out for their friends, trust their instincts and speak to a member of the team if they need help. " This week, the hotel has remained open, but with a pause on events during initial investigations, which have now concluded. We will begin to resume our scheduled events programme from tomorrow, Saturday July 26. "We're grateful to our guests for their patience and understanding and to our team for their continued care and hard work during this difficult time. ‌ "All ticket holders to events that were suspended have been contacted with information about their ticket(s)." Dizzee Rascal was scheduled to play at the hotel on Wednesday as part of the venue's '20th birthday celebrations' but that was postponed. However, Rudimental are still set to perform on July 30 for the anniversary, with tickets still available to purchase online. ‌ Following Evan's death his loved ones raised questions about the hotel safety, slamming how the party destination handled the situation. Friend Blair Robertson slammed the hotel, saying they tried hard to 'get things back to normal' following the death. ‌ He added: 'Security took us away to front desk. Paramedics didn't arrive for about 30 minutes. Forensic officers didn't speak English. We were just standing there, not knowing what was going on. Reception gave us false hope. "We heard the jet washes cleaning the ground where Evan died. That was the worst thing for us." Meanwhile Evan's sister Teila said there needed to be 'higher safety precautions', adding: "Once it did happen, the hotel's response was just completely heartbreaking; almost as if it never happened. I pray no other family has to go through this." ‌ On Wednesday, Ibiza Rocks issued a safety notice on their social media following the deaths, saying their thoughts 'remained with the families' of Evan and Gary. They wrote: "The tragic incidents of the past few weeks have deeply affected many. We continue to work closely with the authorities and our thoughts and support remain with everyone impacted. ‌ "Much of the hard work that goes into safety and security in hotels and venues across the world happens behind the scenes. With thousands of guests passing through our doors every summer, it takes a collective effort from our team, security and local partners to maximise safety for all. "In times like these, care matters - but so does action. "Out of respect and privacy for the people involved, we don't usually comment on individual reports posted online, but that certainly doesn't mean we're not always listening.
