Walnut Hills event offers ice cream, tours and community resources

The Walnut Hills Retirement Community is hosting its fourth annual Ice Cream Extravaganza and Resource Fair noon-3 p.m. Thursday, July 17. Visitors can tour several living options on the Walnut Hills campus, gather information from 20 community resources and enjoy samples of ice cream from five local vendors, according to an announcement. Stops on the tour include independent living homes in The Meadows and The Commons, assisted and catered living options, the Therapy Gym at the Transitional Care Unit and the Troyer House, which features a meeting area, fitness room and craft room. 'We are looking forward to sharing not only the great living options that Walnut Hills has to offer, but also the valuable information that our resource vendors will have for the community,' said Paula Miller, community relations director. 'Plus, each of our five tour stops will feature a different ice cream for guests to sample.' Participating ice cream vendors are Miller's Creamery, Mudd Valley Creamery, Prairie Farms, Schloneger's Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Troyer Market. Several community organizations will return to participate in the Resource Fair, with some additions. The Holmes County Sheriff's Office will provide a medication take-back service for old prescription and over-the-counter medications. The Pomerene Mobile Health Unit will offer free blood pressure checks, along with other assessments and services. Other participating community resources include Absolute Pharmacy, Advantage Home Health, Area Agency on Aging, Cleveland Clinic – Union Hospital (Community Health and Wellness and Wound Center), Coblentz Chocolates, Critchfield, Critchfield & Johnston, Crossroads Hospice, Everence, First UCC of Sugarcreek, Love Inc., Ohio's Hospice, Smith Varns Funeral Home, SpringHaven Counseling Center, SSIP Insurance Partners, Traditions Hospice, United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties and the Walnut Hills Therapy Department. The event is free, and many door prizes will be awarded. Transportation between stops will be provided by golf carts and the Walnut Hills bus. 'We encourage attendees to visit all the vendors at the Resource Fair and get their initials on the event map, so they can be eligible for our grand prize giveaway, which is an assortment of gift certificates and gift cards from generous Walnut Creek area businesses,' Miller said. Visitors should enter the Walnut Hills campus at the Assisted Living entrance at 4770 Olde Pump St. Walnut Hills team members will be at the welcome tent to greet visitors and hand out tour maps and door prize entry slips.
