1 2 Gadag: Kappatagudda wildlife sanctuary is slowly attracting tourists and becoming one of the favourite destinations for tourists to spend quality time with their friends and family members during holidays and other days. The forest dept is now all set to introduce a jungle safari in Kappatagudda from Friday. The proposed safari will offer big opportunities for tourists to explore Kappatagudda, enjoy its natural beauty, and witness the rare medicinal plants and wild animals of the hill area. A 423.7 sqkm area around Kappatagudda wildlife sanctuary was declared an eco-sensitive zone by the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change. Following heavy rains, the greenery has spread all over the hill range, attracting tourists from across the state. Manjunath Megalamani, RFO, Mundaragi and in charge of Kappatagudda, told TOI that the govt has sanctioned the safari in Kappatagudda at a cabinet meeting. The safari is a joint venture of the forest dept, Karnataka tourism department, and jungle lodges and resorts. The 11km-long safari ride will start from Doni point and cover Gali Gundi viewpoints, pergola, watchtower, and Kappatagudda selfie point. Other facilities include new toilets and drinking water facilities, and soon, canteen facility will also be introduced. Tourists are also not allowed to carry plastic bags. The safari will hopefully increase tourist flow to this location, he said. Kappatagudda is home to leopards, porcupines, wolves, jackals, rusty-spotted cats, and other wild animals which can be spotted in the safari tours.
