After pushing car home, Jozef Walus propels Reavis to upset win over Brother Rice. ‘Meant for a moment like this.'

On the eve of one of the biggest boys volleyball matches in years for Reavis, senior outside hitter Jozef Walus certainly didn't see this coming. The engine blew in his car. Walus and his friends pushed the car for two miles Wednesday night, and when all was said and done, he got home at 3 a.m. and finally went to sleep. But the effects from that adventure weren't over. 'I got up at nine and my back was hurting from pushing that car,' Walus said. His mother, Agnieszka, came to the rescue. 'She put some Icy Hot on my back, I fell back asleep with it, and when I woke up, I felt better,' Jozef said. 'I felt replenished.' Things went much better Thursday night for Walus. The host Rams hummed along like a brand-new car, pulling off a 25-18, 25-15 stunner over Brother Rice at the Reavis Regional in Burbank, winning their first regional title since 2011. Walus tallied five kills and three aces for sixth-seeded Reavis (31-2). He also unleashed several other serves that had the backrow of third-seeded Brother Rice (30-8) scrambling. Pawel Greczek led the Rams with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while Brandon Wilke added six kills. Blue O'Neill had 23 assists and Krystian Paluch chipped in with 18 digs. Vaughn Goberville paced Brother Rice with four kills. The Crusaders were guilty of 13 hitting errors and six serving miscues, ensuring that their season would end sooner than they expected. Walus and the Rams, however, set the tone by taking a 14-5 lead in the first game. That helped silence the jitters they were collectively experiencing. 'We were 100% nervous,' Walus said. 'We were all nervous, but we put that aside and said that we wanted to win this. We put it aside and played our hardest.' How nervous was Walus? 'When I went back to serve, I thought I was going to trip and fall,' he said. To prove the opener wasn't a fluke, the Rams took a 15-4 lead in the second game and won handily, advancing to Saturday's Hinsdale Central Sectional semifinals against second-seeded Sandburg (33-4). For Reavis coach Mike Jebens, this was the culmination of a graduating class that featured talented freshmen with potential four years ago. And Walus was one of them. 'Joey has been through so much,' Jebens. 'He was a JV player as a freshman and started as a sophomore and started as a junior and as a senior and has improved so much. 'He was meant for a moment like this.' Paluch, who was also a top soccer player for Reavis, remembered regional final losses to Marian Catholic and Sandburg the past two years. He thought the Rams were ready for a breakthrough. 'It was great that we were at home,' he said. 'When we're at home, there is this different vibe, and the fans came out and supported us. This is something special.' Paluch said he doesn't think he will go to college, so he wants to make the most out of the end of his high school career. On the other hand, Walus committed to play volleyball at Bryant & Stratton in Wisconsin. He's glad that he can get in at least a couple more years of the sport and go from there. 'They are bringing in a few 6-8 middles and the setter from Argo,' Walus said, referring to Alexander Jakowicki. 'I didn't want to go to a four-year college. I just wanted to get my associate's degree real quick and go to a trade school. 'But I had a friend who committed there. It's a two-year program and it's close to home.'

Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley slam Darius Garland for trash talk on TNT after injury update

Photo byIn the wild world of NBA playoffs , the Basketball Gods always seem ready to humble anyone who gets too bold too soon. Just days after calling out Tyler Herro 's defense following a Game 2 win, Cleveland Cavaliers star Darius Garland now finds himself on the sidelines. Garland has officially been ruled out for Game 3 against the Miami Heat , sidelined by a sprained toe , a cruel twist after his fiery comments earlier this week. TNT crew rips Darius Garland as trash talk backfires and injury sidelines him Darius Garland didn't hold back when he spoke to the media after helping lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 2-0 series advantage. He said the Cavaliers planned to 'pick on Tyler Herro ,' labeling the Heat guard as a weak defender. But as fate would have it, Garland won't even get a chance to back up his words on the court. The reaction from the NBA on TNT crew was instant and brutal. Charles Barkley couldn't hide his disbelief. 'Are you kidding me?' Barkley said. 'You got to be kidding me, right? Well, first of all, you don't say that. No, you don't. You've got to play.' Barkley stressed that even if Herro isn't known for defense, the Heat star still dropped 34 points in Game 2, adding, 'So don't act like he's a bum.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo Shaquille O'Neal also weighed in, offering his take during the same TNT segment. 'You can say it, but you shouldn't say it,' Shaq said, emphasizing the risk of revealing a team's game plan. He added, 'Miami is a defensive-minded team. Now they're coming for you.' Shaq even joked about Garland's injury, suggesting he tough it out. 'Sprained toe? Go to Walgreens and get some Icy Hot toe socks,' Shaq said, teasing how players from his era would have handled it. The Cavaliers, led by head coach Kenny Atkinson, quickly tried to steer the conversation back to basketball. Garland, who averaged 20.6 points and 6.7 assists during the regular season, had been key to Cleveland's success and was putting up strong numbers this postseason. Still, the team decided sitting him was the best move. As for the Miami Heat , they'll need big performances from Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro to avoid falling into a 0-3 hole. Through two games, Herro has been excellent, averaging 27 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 50% from the field. Sixers' Lonnie Walker IV talks concussion recovery, goals for final 9 games

Sixers' Lonnie Walker IV talks concussion recovery, goals for final 9 games CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers were hit with another injury recently when Lonnie Walker IV took a hard fall in a March 12 matchup with the Toronto Raptors. Early in the contest, Walker went up for a rebound and fell hard with his head smacking the floor leaving the game and not returning. He was then diagnosed with a concussion and missed the next four games. He did make a brief return against the San Antonio Spurs on March 21 while playing 11 minutes, but he was experiencing headaches so the Sixers pulled him and he has missed three games since. Back as a full participant in practice on Friday, Walker discussed his concussion recovery. "Much better as of right now," said Walker. "I'm feeling good. I had my first full practice, so just happy to be back on the floor playing with my teammates." The concussion protocol is there to make sure the player is completely healed before making a return to the floor. Concussions are no joke and one shouldn't play with head injuries so Walker and the Sixers needed to tread carefully. "Just ramp up as far as, like, conditioning, seeing how the head works, as far as, how does it feel after, on court stuff, how does it feel the next day?" Walker explained. "Do you have headaches still? Just seeing if you're still weary of, like, the concussion things, but really just being on court, seeing how it feels and go from there." As far as the Spurs game is concerned, he was cleared for a return, but another headache just popped up. Therefore, he just wanted to go the careful route in his recovery. "This is my first concussion, so I don't really know as far as the protocol," Walker said of the Spurs game. "I mean, the league approved it. I felt fine. I felt good, as far as going into the game, but it was my first time actually being around the lights and noises and the stimulation of the whole game. So, I felt a small little headache and things of that nature, and we decided that it was best to just figure it out and rest from there." Walker began the 2024-25 season overseas. This time away from the floor has thrown a wrench into him earning a new opportunity and such going forward. That's why these final nine games are going to be important for him to get that time on the floor. "Very important," Walker finsihed. "I mean, usually with certain injuries, you can kind of thug it out. I guess you could say, you know, if you have, like, a contusion or something, you could play through it, but it was just my luck that I kind of got a concussion. You can't put Icy Hot on your brain. So these next nine games are very important just to continue to showcase my ability, my game, and see what's next from there."

Why the Falcons released Grady Jarrett and how it will affect the locker room

The Atlanta Falcons' locker room won't be the same in 2025. For starters, it will smell different. Obviously, that's not the most important impact of Grady Jarrett's release Monday, but it's a good starting point to explain why the move is such a significant decision for the organization. Jarrett is a 10-year veteran at defensive tackle, and that resume takes a toll on a body. That's why every day, the smell of Icy Hot filled the Falcons' locker room just before practice began as the 31-year-old slathered his tree-trunk legs in the pain-relieving ointment. Advertisement Jarrett, a two-time Pro Bowler who grew up just outside Atlanta, played in 157 games for the Falcons, starting 142 of them. He had 39 1/2 sacks, including three in a Super Bowl LI performance that should be commemorated on a plaque somewhere in the Falcons building, but, like so many other nice things, was washed away by the 28-3 game. Only nine Atlanta players have notched more sacks for the franchise. He hit the opposing quarterback 134 times, which is the franchise record. By any measure, it was a notable decade. Given the expectations for him when he was selected in the fifth round of the 2015 draft out of Clemson, it was a remarkable one. Along with what he did on the field, Jarrett was just as impactful off the field through his Grady Gives foundation. He was Atlanta's Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee twice, including last season, and a favorite of team owner Arthur Blank, who released a statement Monday after his release. 'Over the past decade, Grady has exemplified true professionalism, leadership and humility while representing both the Falcons and the city of Atlanta,' the statement read in part. 'It has been an honor to witness Grady's growth — not only as a team captain and Pro Bowl player on the field but also as a remarkable individual and family man off the field. Beyond his exceptional skills as a football player, Grady stands as a role model, consistently showing resilience in the face of adversity. His impact reaches far beyond the game — his tenacity and love for those around him have inspired not only me but teammates, staff and generations of Falcons fans alike. … In this business, we are often faced with difficult decisions, and this one is no exception. On behalf of myself, the entire Falcons organization and the city of Atlanta, we honor and thank Grady for his incredible contributions both on and off the field. Grady will forever be part of our Falcons family, and we will always be here supporting him and wishing him the very best.' What a ride it's been, @GradyJarrett — Atlanta Falcons (@AtlantaFalcons) March 10, 2025 For Blank, the sting of Jarrett's release had to be second only to the one he felt after the trade of quarterback Matt Ryan in 2022. Just as Ryan was the face of the franchise on offense, Jarrett was that on defense, which is why the decision to release him wasn't an easy one for the Falcons, despite the sizable salary-cap savings. Advertisement The reason that smell of Icy Hot wafted through Atlanta's cavernous new locker room in 2024 was that his locker sat right in the middle of it, along the path virtually every player on the team walked to get to the practice field. That was not accidental. Jarrett was the player who all three Falcons coaching staffs he played for pointed teammates toward as an example of the proverbial 'how we do things around here.' 'You can't say enough positive things about the ethos of Grady Jarrett,' Falcons coach Raheem Morris said last month at the NFL combine. 'He is what a Falcon is. You can't really put a value on what Grady does. Those are the kind of players that we want to shape people to be like. Those are leaders in our program that bring out the best version of us.' What Morris didn't say then was that Jarrett was untouchable, which now feels like a foreshadowing of Monday's news. 'Obviously business comes first,' the coach said. 'It's about our ethos, but you have to do what is best for the Falcons at all times.' GO DEEPER Falcons 7-round mock draft: 2 trades and all defense, starting at cornerback Jarrett was set to be playing on the final year of a three-year extension he signed in 2022 and making $20.3 million in 2025. The Falcons tried to retain him on a restructured deal, but the two sides failed to find common ground, leading to Monday's decision to release him, according to a league source. The Chicago Bears didn't let Jarrett sit on the open market for long, agreeing to terms on a three-year deal worth up to $43.5 million, $28.5 million of which is guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. For Atlanta, the move freed up $16.3 million for a team that entered the weekend over the salary cap but had already freed up some space by giving left tackle Jake Matthews a two-year contract extension worth up to $45 million Sunday. Atlanta will have nearly $17 million in cap space once Matthews' contract extension is processed, but it didn't commit any of that money on Monday. While several other teams started getting deals done on the first day of the negotiation period, the Falcons only saw players going out the door. Advertisement Drew Dalman, a three-year starter center, agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Bears worth up to $42 million. The move, which seems to clear the way for Ryan Neuzil to take over the center job for the Falcons, was not inconsequential but was overshadowed by the Jarrett move. The move to release Jarrett turns a spotlight on young defensive linemen Ruke Orhorhoro and Brandon Dorlus. The Falcons drafted Orhorhoro and Dorlus, in the second and fourth rounds, respectively, last year to be ready for a changing of the guard at an aging position. The three defensive tackles who played the highest percentage of snaps for Atlanta last season — Jarrett, David Onyemata and Eddie Goldman — are going to be at least 31 years old this fall. Meanwhile, Orhorhoro and Dorlus played 167 snaps combined. The Falcons now will learn whether those were good selections or not. Jarrett started 17 games for Atlanta last year in his first season back since a season-ending ACL injury suffered in Week 8 of 2023. He had his second-most impactful season since his 2020 Pro Bowl year, according to Pro Football Reference's approximate value charting, but he had only 2 1/2 sacks and 12 quarterback hits (his fewest in a full season since 2013). He was clearly not the player he was during his breakthrough 2019 and 2020 seasons, but there were still flashes of that player at times. Those flashes might be more frequent in the upcoming season because he'll be two years removed from his injury, but the Falcons are betting they will be less frequent because he'll be 32 when the season begins. 'It's not just about exactly what you're doing on the field. It's everything,' general manager Terry Fontenot said in February while discussing Jarrett. 'Ultimately, we have to do what is right for the Atlanta Falcons and make the best decisions based on what is going to help us win football games, but with any player we are going to look at what they're doing on the field, how they fit into the locker room, all of those areas.' In all of those areas, the Falcons are going to miss Grady Jarrett.

Prices and availability are subject to change. Our feet take a beating on the daily and on those occasions when the soreness, swelling and fatigue are just unbearable, know that Dr. Scholl's created a product that's designed to give you instant and lasting relief — no soaking, tubs or mess required. Delivered in a pack of three when purchased from Amazon, these Dr. Scholl's foot treatments come in the form of single-use mylar booties that couldn't be any easier to store or travel with. Throughout their 30 minutes of wear time, the magical mixture inside the booties delivers a deeply soothing and pain-relieving stream of intense heat that reviewers claim feels similar to products like Icy Hot. The essential oil-infused mixture contains cooling menthol and Epsom salt, which breaks down into magnesium — a mineral that can be absorbed into the skin to relax muscles, reduce swelling and offer pain relief. Real users of these convenient foot masks claim that it's such an effective formulation that feet feel completely refreshed and restored, even after experiencing severe aching from the day before. For many, the relief persists all the following day, essentially erasing any damage that might have been done from overusing their feet. For this reason alone you can imagine how many reviewers are claiming that these helpful treatments are essential for travel, especially to destinations where you'll be doing a lot of walking and sightseeing. To use, just open the top of each bootie, slide your foot in, secure around the ankles with the attached adhesive tab and enjoy the gently tingling sensation for 30 minutes. Reviewers point out that the tabs are not the most secure, so you could benefit from popping on a pair of fuzzy socks over the bootie if you're going to be walking around. Then, you just remove and rub the remaining treatment into your feet. Just be sure to avoid using these on broken or compromised skin. 'Miracle workers,' 'sweet relief in a bootie,' and 'my feet feel brand new' are just a few of the statements reviewers made about Dr. Scholl's foot masks, which you read for yourself down below. Or, if you're desperate for even more foot care products, we included a few of our favorites up ahead. Promising Amazon reviews: 'This foot mask is like wrapping my achy feet in a cozy little conspiracy theory- yep, it looks like a tinfoil hat, but for your feet. Quality? Surprisingly great- my feet went from tired and tragic to soft and refreshed, like they've been on vacation. It holds up even when I awkwardly shuffle around the house looking like I'm preparing for an alien invasion. (Tip: Dont walk around with them on.) Efficiency? Oh, it works, my feet felt brand new, and I didn't even have to bribe them with a foot rub. If you're looking to pamper your tired dogs while protecting them from, I don't know, government mind control, this mask has you covered literally. Also you will have to explain to your spouse what you're doing because you definitely look like you lost your mind or found it, no judgement.' — MonkE ″Sweet relief in a a decent product that saves the time and effort of a foot soak! When my feet are aching, I grab a packet, slide my feet into the booties, and relax with my feet up instead of flat in a soak. The booties little sticky flaps are not anywhere near as secure as Fort Knox, but I'm forgiving on that as I'm not trying out a tap dance routine or have the desire run a marathon in them. The feeling of heat takes a bit, like about the time I think they may not heat up is about when the warmth starts up. I think one's ability to withstand the feeling depends on how sensitive your skin is. If you think Icy Hot is a bit too hot, you probably will not be a fan. I find the sensation to be like a minty throat lozenge for my feet, which fits with the ingredient list. While there's a bit of relief immediately after use, I really notice it the next day. Love this product! Note: If you are allergic to lavender, you may have issues with this product.' — DP 'Miracle workers!! I am morbidly obese and just got done walking 4.5 miles and 10.7k steps around Oia and Fira in Santorini, Greece today. Even though I was wearing some of the most comfortable sneakers ever, my feet hurt miserably. I tried these according to package instructions and now my feet don't hurt at all and it feels like I never did any walking or stair climbing today.' — Desi 'My husband and I tried these as we had both been saying how dry and achy our feet were feeling. We put them on whilst watching TV. They did not make a mess or drip/leak, and after 10 minutes we took them off, rubbed the excess lotion in, and the results were silky soft and refreshed feeling feet! Highly recommend.' — AG Amazon Available in several fragrances like peach, rose and lavender, this foot peel mask uses all-natural ingredients to exfoliate rough, cracked and callused feet.
