Sixers' Lonnie Walker IV talks concussion recovery, goals for final 9 games
CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers were hit with another injury recently when Lonnie Walker IV took a hard fall in a March 12 matchup with the Toronto Raptors. Early in the contest, Walker went up for a rebound and fell hard with his head smacking the floor leaving the game and not returning.
He was then diagnosed with a concussion and missed the next four games. He did make a brief return against the San Antonio Spurs on March 21 while playing 11 minutes, but he was experiencing headaches so the Sixers pulled him and he has missed three games since.
Back as a full participant in practice on Friday, Walker discussed his concussion recovery.
"Much better as of right now," said Walker. "I'm feeling good. I had my first full practice, so just happy to be back on the floor playing with my teammates."
The concussion protocol is there to make sure the player is completely healed before making a return to the floor. Concussions are no joke and one shouldn't play with head injuries so Walker and the Sixers needed to tread carefully.
"Just ramp up as far as, like, conditioning, seeing how the head works, as far as, how does it feel after, on court stuff, how does it feel the next day?" Walker explained. "Do you have headaches still? Just seeing if you're still weary of, like, the concussion things, but really just being on court, seeing how it feels and go from there."
As far as the Spurs game is concerned, he was cleared for a return, but another headache just popped up. Therefore, he just wanted to go the careful route in his recovery.
"This is my first concussion, so I don't really know as far as the protocol," Walker said of the Spurs game. "I mean, the league approved it. I felt fine. I felt good, as far as going into the game, but it was my first time actually being around the lights and noises and the stimulation of the whole game. So, I felt a small little headache and things of that nature, and we decided that it was best to just figure it out and rest from there."
Walker began the 2024-25 season overseas. This time away from the floor has thrown a wrench into him earning a new opportunity and such going forward. That's why these final nine games are going to be important for him to get that time on the floor.
"Very important," Walker finsihed. "I mean, usually with certain injuries, you can kind of thug it out. I guess you could say, you know, if you have, like, a contusion or something, you could play through it, but it was just my luck that I kind of got a concussion. You can't put Icy Hot on your brain. So these next nine games are very important just to continue to showcase my ability, my game, and see what's next from there."

Spurs might be unable to land Greek Freak

Spurs might be unable to land Greek Freak originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Antonio Spurs have been linked to their fair share of offseason moves. With Dylan Harper their assumed draft pick, Naz Reid a potential free-agency signing, and Kevin Durant, Lauri Markkanen, and Giannis Antetokounmpo all trade candidates, the Spurs can bolster their roster in a big way this summer. Advertisement Of course, Antetokounmpo is the most talented player expected to be on the move this offseason. After the Milwaukee Bucks lost in the first round of the postseason for the third season in a row, the Greek Freak could demand a trade. Unless he specifically asks out, the Bucks are not expected to entertain trade offers. If he does ask for a trade, however, Milwaukee is expected to land a historically large haul of talent and draft capital, kickstarting a rebuild. The Spurs certainly have the means to land him, although it will be costly and arguably not worth it in the long run. A recent report from a league insider suggests that Antetokounmpo has not yet asked out, and the Bucks are not eager to field calls. Advertisement "Right now, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market," declared Brian Windhorst. "There is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade discussions. He has not asked for it. The Bucks are not looking to trade him." Giannis has been linked to the Spurs, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Toronto Raptors, although all of those teams might need to pivot to a different target, with Durant emerging as the best player. De'Aaron Fox offers injury update

De'Aaron Fox offers injury update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last season, before the trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs added All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, hoping that he would be the long-term running mate for Victor Wembanyama. Advertisement The pair played only five games together, going 2-3, before Wembanyama had his season ended early with a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis in his shoulder. A few weeks later, Fox had his season ended as well, undergoing surgery on his pinkie finger. In 17 games with the Spurs, Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists, clearly needing to get used to his new team. He expects to use the offseason to settle into his role with his new teammates and is already playing five-on-five and has been cleared for contact. 'I'm doing well. The surgery went fine,' Fox told The Houston Chronicle. 'I've been cleared, so I played a little five-on-five, and I've done contact stuff, so I'll be ready for next year.' The Spurs gave up Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Sidy Cissoko, and four first-round draft picks to the Kings and Chicago Bulls in a three-team deal to land Fox, although several of those picks had protections on them, and one of them ended up not conveying to the Kings. Advertisement Before the trade, Fox asked the Kings to get a deal done and listed the Spurs as the only acceptable landing spot. With Wembanyama in town, San Antonio has become a premier destination, and Fox got in on the ground floor, expecting the team to find massive success in the next few years. Former Sixers guard TJ McConnell helps Pacers beat Thunder in Game 3

Former Sixers guard TJ McConnell helps Pacers beat Thunder in Game 3 The 2025 NBA Finals shifted to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for Game 3 on Wednesday night with the Indiana Pacers looking to take advantage of stealing homecourt advantage. The Oklahoma City Thunder have been a resilient bunch in this postseason and were looking to regain control of the series. On Wednesday night, it was a former Philadelphia 76ers guard who made a big impact for the Pacers. TJ McConnell, a champion of The Process Sixers, hopped off the bench and gave the Pacers a huge lift. He had 10 points and five assists, but his five steals were a big difference for Indiana defensively. He had a handful of steals in the backcourt as the Thunder were unable to get the ball in, and the Pacers were able to knock off Oklahoma City 116-107 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. McConnell and the Pacers will look to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series in Game 4 on Friday. The Pacers will look to take advantage of the Indianapolis faithful being on their side before things shift back to OKC afterward.
