Discussing the list, the publication wrote: "From a castle in Cumbria to a subtropical paradise in Cornwall, these are some of the top unsung gardens across the country." Trelissick Garden was praised by The Guardian for its various unique features and variety of plants. They wrote: "With its small beach, ancient Cornish orchard and pontoon on the River Fal, the National Trust's Trelissick isn't your average garden. "Paths wind through Brobdingnagian sub-tropical gardens, and dawn-till-dusk woodland walks bring snapshots of the river. "Spring delivers magnolias, camellias, rhododendrons and fountains of wisteria; later in the year, it's the turn of ginger lilies, dahlias and bananas." There are also opportunities for guests to stay overnight in Trelissick Tower, or the restored Trelissick Engine House. What do visitors think of Trelissick Garden? Plenty of guests praised factors such as the gardens being well-presented, the shop, flowers and walks. One person wrote: "A National Trust property and the Gardens were well presented and well kept. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and very happy to share. The cafe and tea room provided good homemade produce and was priced well. "The shop was well stocked and in addition there is a gallery with locally produced art and creative goods." Another shared: "With the NT, one knows that the grounds will be well maintained, what the menu will be in the cafe, and that the loos will be clean. That said, Trelissick a lovely garden. Absolutely lovely. "How fortunate I was that the weather was sunny, and I was free to wander about and immerse myself in the beauty of the gardens and the wonderful view of the coast." A third commented: "A must everytime we come to Cornwall and never fails to live up to expectations. "The most wonderful place to walk, we did the main gardens first, grabbed a lovely lynch then the country trail along the river back to the beach." Trelissick estate celebrating 70 years of National Trust ownership The Trelissick estate is celebrating 70 years since it was gifted to the National Trust by Ida Copeland in 1955. Two exhibitions marking the anniversary will be taking place at Trelissick this year. The first exhibition, Trelissick 70, explores the life of Ida Copeland and her family's time at the estate, including their impact on the gardens and their experiences during the Second World War. The display, featuring archive material and photographs, is open daily from 11am to 4pm until Sunday, September 15. Recommended reading: Entry to the Trelissick 70 exhibition is included in standard admission and is free for National Trust members. A second exhibition, Your Trelissick, will launch this autumn and invites the public to share their personal memories of the estate. Visitors are encouraged to contribute a postcard-sized piece of writing or artwork, which will be displayed in the house.
