Nagarjunasagar: Illuminated lighting and angels like beauty electrified the atmosphere here at Buddhavanam as Miss World contestants participated in the Buddha Purnima celebrations on Monday. The celebrations held at the banks of the Krishna River in Nagarjuna Sagar were graced by the contestants amidst special arrangements made by the government to make the event attractive for the international guests. The prestigious Buddha Jayanthi celebration took place at Buddhavanam, a cultural and spiritual heritage complex built on the banks of Nagarjuna Sagar. Contestants from 22 different countries participated in the event. The contestants explored and gained insight into Buddhavanam, which features 547 Jataka tales and 42 themed segments showcasing Buddhist teachings and their visit in mind, both Vijaya Vihar Guest House and Buddhavanam were specially decorated with illuminated lights. The international beauty queens also had dinner at the venue. As part of the tour, a group of Miss World contestants embarked on a cultural trip to Nagarjuna Sagar, showcasing the region's heritage and scenic journey began from Hyderabad, with the delegates reaching the Vellanki Guest House near Chintapalli by 3:00 pm. After a short break, the group travelled to Vijaya Vihar at Nagarjuna Sagar. Later in the evening, the group visited the Mahastupa, where they were given a guided tour by heritage expert DrShivaramakrishna Reddy. At the Buddha Sasanasite, the contestants participated in a brief meditation session, followed by a ritual called Bailakupe performed by monks from Mahabodhi. An insightful lecture on Buddhavanam and its significance was delivered, after which they explored the Jātakavanam area. Nalgonda District Collector Ila Tripathi, IG Satyanarayana, SP Sharath Chandra Pawar, and others took part in the 2,000 police personnel of various ranks were deployed at strategic locations in and around Nagarjuna Sagar in view of the Miss World contestants' cultural tour. Officials breathed a sigh of relief as the visit concluded smoothly and according to plan.

NALGONDA: Thirty Miss World 2025 contestants from Asian countries are scheduled to visit the Buddhist heritage site, Buddha Vanam in Nagarjuna Sagar on Monday. The visit coincides with Buddha Purnima. According to tourism officials, extensive arrangements are being made for the visit. Preparations are underway at both the Vijay Vihar guest house, where the contestants will be staying and at Buddha Vanam. The entire Buddha Vanam complex and the two-kilometre stretch leading to Vijay Vihar will be illuminated with decorative lighting. Officials said the participants will depart from Hyderabad for Nagarjuna Sagar at 1 pm, rest at Vijay Vihar and then proceed to Buddha Vanam for a meditation session and a photoshoot, before returning to Hyderabad later that night. Police personnel will be deployed at both the heritage site and Vijay Vihar to ensure security. Collector Ila Tripathi, along with Superintendent of Police Sharath Chandra Pawar and officials from the Revenue, Health and Forest departments, has conducted several review meetings to ensure the contestants' comfort and safety during their stay.

NALGONDA: On May 12, Nagarjunasagar's tranquil Buddhist sites will shimmer with a rare fusion of spirituality and stardust as Miss World delegates descend upon its sacred grounds. Amid hurried renovations at the VIP Vijaya Vihar guesthouse, the stage is set for 140 nations to witness Telangana's heritage. Three days later, the journey continues in Bhoodan Pochampally, where vibrant Ikat sarees will dazzle on a global ramp, weaving handloom legacy into the pageant's fabric before spiritual rituals at Yadagirigutta temple elevate this cultural symphony. The event will see participation from young women representing 140 countries, along with around 3,000 national and international media representatives. As part of their itinerary to explore various tourist destinations across the state, the delegates will arrive at Nagarjunasagar, where they are scheduled to visit Buddhavanam and Nagarjunakonda. The visit is part of the Miss World competition being organised by the Telangana Tourism department in Hyderabad from May 7 to 31. With only a few days left for the event, renovation works at Vijaya Vihar are progressing at a brisk pace. Painting, installation of new AC units, renovation of toilets, new electrical wiring, drainage work and other upgrades are currently underway. In addition, a road is being constructed from the Nagarjunasagar main road to Vijaya Vihar. The government has allocated `5 crore for these works, and officials have stated that all tasks will be completed within the next three days. Last month, Tourism department Managing Director Prakash Reddy, along with District Collector Ila Tripathi, inspected the preparations. During a review meeting, they instructed officials to develop the tourist sites in a way that showcases Telangana's rich culture and traditions to national and international audiences. Ikat fashion show planned The Miss World contestants will also travel from Hyderabad to Bhoodan Pochampally on May 15 to visit a handloom-themed area. Officials said the contestants are expected to participate in a ramp show wearing Pochampally Ikat sarees. Following the show, the contestants, adorned in traditional sarees, will proceed to Yadagirigutta. They will first arrive at the Presidential Suite located at the foot of the hill, and from there, perform Sankalpa pujas at Vishnu Pushkarini and participate in Akhanda Deeparadhana pujas near the main temple. After seeking the blessings of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, they will inspect the reconstruction works at the main temple. Sources said a documentary will also be filmed during the visit. It is anticipated that the visit of the Miss World contestants will significantly enhance the global profile of the Yadagirigutta temple.
