A curfew was imposed by Syrian authorities following the assassination of defector ambassador Nour Eddin Allabbad and his brother in Daraa.
A video was posted on social media showing the moment the unknown armed men entered the house of the former ambassador before killing them. Who is Nour Eddin Allabbad?
Allabbad was born in 1962 in the city of Al-Sanamayn in Daraa Governorate, Syria. He is a prominent Syrian diplomat and well-known poet. He holds a master's degree in international relations from the Sorbonne University in Paris.
He holds a doctorate in French literature and a higher diploma in translation, and served as Minister Plenipotentiary in the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Nour Eddin Allabbad was a Minister at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and had previously served as an ambassador for Yemen, France, Iraq, Turkey, and Libya.
He defected from the former Syrian regime led by Bashar Assad in 2013 and later represented the National Coalition in France. He returned to his hometown, Al-Sanamayn, from France two weeks ago and was planning to return next week.
