New closures to begin for $237 million ‘I-70 Kansas City' project
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As a part of the Improve I-70 Kansas City project, roads around the Benton Curve will be closed.
Beginning around 6:30 a.m. on Friday, there will be a long-term closure of Benton Boulevard beneath Interstate 70 between Truman Road and 13th Street.
The I-70 westbound on-ramp will remain open to southbound traffic on Benton Blvd. during the closure. Truman Road, Indiana Avenue, and 13th Street will be the routes of the designated detour.

The planned closure period is through the summer of 2027.
The Improve I-70 KC project focuses on the five-mile stretch of Interstate 70 in Kansas City between The Paseo Blvd. and US 40/31 St. This section of I-70, according to Missouri Department of Transportation.
The $237 million project will upgrade connectivity in areas with high traffic congestion during rush hours and traffic incidents by replacing aging infrastructure. Twenty-six bridges and twelve interchanges will be replaced or refurbished as part of this project.
MoDOT said the project will improve the safety and reliability of this section of I-70.
