Bomb Threats At Delhi's Udyog Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan Turn Out To Be Hoax
New Delhi: Threats via e-mails to blow up two government buildings in central Delhi -- Udyog Bhawan and Nirman Bhawan -- prompted security agencies to carry out an extensive sanitisation exercise. The threat later turned out to be a hoax. The threat, sent via email at 6.49 am to senior officials at the two central government complexes, claimed that "ammonium sulfur-based Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have been twinned" within the premises and warned, "Evacuate All by 3.15 pm." The "suicide IEDs" threat was issued through identical e-mails sent at 6.49 am to the top officials of the ministries housed in the two facilities. Udyog Bhawan houses offices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry along with the Ministry of Heavy Industries, while Nirman Bhawan is home to the Union Health and Housing and Urban Affairs ministries. Security officials told PTI that the hoax e-mails are suspected to have been sent from abroad, possibly Amsterdam, and the central cyber protection agencies are tracking their trail. The office of the secretary of Heavy Industries and officials from the adjoining Nirman Bhawan flagged the e-mail contents to security agencies including the Delhi Police, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). The CISF is tasked to provide a counter-terrorist cover to the two buildings. A multi-agency sanitisation and anti-sabotage check was initiated in the two Bhawans early this morning. No incriminating or suspicious items was recovered and the threat was declared a "non-specific or hoax" by late afternoon, security officials said. The official staff and other people present in the ministries housed in the buildings were not evacuated as per the standard operating procedure (SOP), they said. Around a dozen sniffer dogs, four bomb detection and disposal teams of the CISF, Delhi Police and Delhi Metro were pressed in for conducting the sanitisation exercise, they added. "The anti-sabotage operations lasted for around two hours till 5.10 pm. The threat has been declared hoax after thorough check of the premises," a DFS officer said According to fire service officials, they received a call regarding the threat email at 1.01 pm and a team of fire brigade was rushed to the spot. The security apparatus at the two buildings was further strengthened with CISF officers seen checking vehicles before allowing entry into premises and visitors being thoroughly checked.

At least six killed in school bus blast in Pakistan's restive Balochistan
Agencies Islamabad At least six people have been killed in a blast targeting a school bus in the Khuzdar district of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, an official said. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said four children, the bus driver and his assistant were killed in the attack on Wednesday. Yasir Iqbal Dashti, a government official in Khuzdar, said at least 38 people were wounded. 'The school bus belonged to Army Public School as it was picking children in the morning when it was attacked,' he told Al Jazeera. Bugti told a news conference in Quetta that 46 students were on the school bus that was hit by a 'vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack' according to initial investigations. 'We have been air-lifting the critically injured children to Quetta from Khuzdar,' Bugti said. He said it was 'premature to confirm the nature of the attack' and that further investigations were ongoing. Balochistan province, which is rich in minerals and natural resources, has been home to a decades-long conflict between the government and ethnic Baloch separatists, who demand secession from Pakistan. Wednesday's attack came days after a car bombing killed four people near a market in Qillah Abdullah, also in Balochistan.

Pakistan: Car bomb targets Frontier Corps, leaves several people dead in Balochistan
Quetta: A car bomb explosion in Gulistan Area of Qila Abdullah, a border area of Pakistan's Balochistan province with Afghanistan, has killed at least four people and injured more than 20 others, eight of them critically injured. The explosion occurred in Jabbar commercial market situated on the Quetta–Chaman National Highway in Gulistan town, adjacent to the fort of Pakistan's Frontier Corps (FC). As per details, the massive explosion destroyed many shops and vehicles parked in the area and walls of the FC Fort were also damaged. Locals said that many shops in the market also caught fire. Sources stated that the target of the attack was also a tribal warlord Faizullah Ghabizai, a pro-government leader, who was present in the market when the car bomb exploded. However, Ghabizai remained safe while one of his guards was killed and others were injured in the explosion. "Apparently, the attackers wanted to target the back wall of the FC fort located adjacent to the commercial market. After the huge blast, security forces engaged in heavy exchange of fire with the attackers," said Muhammad Riaz Dawar, Deputy Commissioner Qila Abdullah. "An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was fitted in the car and was used for the explosion. It seems like the car was detonated with a remote control," he added. The banned terror outfit, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack on the FC Fort and the levies are investigating into the incident while security in and around Qila Abdullah and Chaman has been beefed up. Analysts say that there is a clear coordination between the proscribed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who have intensified their attacks in the recent past. "TTP footprints deep inside Balochistan re-establish the fact that both TTP and the BLA are in allegiance and operating in coordination against the Pakistani security forces. We also have seen the other separatist groups in Sindh province - including the Sindh Desh Revolution Army which has connections with the BLA and TTP - starting to carry out targetted killings in areas bordered with India," said analyst Qamar Cheema. "Pakistan has repeatedly stated that these militant groups are getting all the support and facilitation from Afghanistan," he added. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has intensified its attacks on security forces in the province. Social media campaigns have also been launched by the BLA-led groups, calling for what they term as liberation from Pakistan and expressing allegiance with India.

Life sentence for man over murder of sex worker in Limerick
A man has been handed a life sentence after he pleaded guilty to murdering a sex worker in Limerick city over two years ago. Habib Shah Shamel appeared at Belfast Crown Court from custody to be formally arraigned on two charges he faced. When the charge of murdering Geila Ibram was put to him by the court clerk, Shamel, 28, an Afghan national formerly of Cecil Street in Limerick, replied through an interpreter: "I am guilty.'' Ms Ibram, who was 27 and originally from Romania, was stabbed five times at her apartment in Limerick city on 4 April, 2023 - twice to the face, once to the chest, once to the abdomen and once to the forearm which appeared to have been a defensive injury. Senior prosecutor David McDowell KC told the court that Shamel had arranged by text to meet Ms Ibram for sex. "He arrived at the flat and paid her €100. She gave the money to a colleague,'' said Mr McDowell. "Several seconds later this colleague heard screams and it was apparent he had stabbed Ms Ibram. "The fatal injury was to the chest which went through her lungs and entered her heart. Death was as a result of blood loss due to multiple stab wounds. "The fact that he stabbed her within seconds of meeting Ms Ibram invites the obvious inference that he came there to kill her.'' Shamel fled the scene and went to Dublin before heading by bus to Belfast. The PSNI stopped him in a car on the Malone Road in south Belfast on 6 April, 2023. During interviews with police, he said he had gone to the escort to "satisfy his sexual needs'' because of something he had viewed online. When Shamel was arrested, the PSNI seized a rucksack and found a notebook which contained a hand written letter to his mother in which he expressed a desire to "sacrifice his life to Allah''. The court heard the bag also contained a USB stick which contained alleged terrorist-related videos of executions, dismemberment, encouragement to support Jihad, instructions on how to construct and detonate an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Mr McDowell said there were also videos of suicide bombers including a father encouraging his 10-12-year-old son to blow himself up and then him doing so. When the charge of possessing a "document or record containing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, namely files within a USB'', Shamel replied: "I am not guilty.'' The court heard a trial date had been set for 8 September this year and which is expected to last two weeks. Defence barrister Chris Sherrard said he would be seeking expert witnesses as rebuttal to two prosecution experts who have made reports on the contents of the USB stick. Following his guilty plea to murdering Ms Ibram, Mr Justice O'Hara told the defendant: "Mr Shamel, since you have pleaded guilty to the murder of Ms Ibram in April 2023 I must now impose on you a sentence of life imprisonment. "There will be a subsequent hearing at which I will set the number of years which you must serve before your release can be considered. "However number of years that will be, you will serve a very long period of time in prison before consideration of your release ever comes around.'' Mr Justice O'Hara postponed the life sentence tariff hearing until after the September trial. The senior judge added that he would review the case of possessing documents likely to be of use to terrorists in three weeks time.
