Fans of music ephemera and pop culture collectibles just got access to a goldmine. The big picture: Longtime Chicago musician and producer Steve Albini 's collection of records, T-shirts, books and "mystery bargains" are for sale with proceeds going to Albini's estate. Flashback: Albini died suddenly last May at the age of 61. He famously recorded Nirvana's "In Utero" album, as well as the Pixies and PJ Harvey, and fronted the Chicago bands Big Black and Shellac. State of play: The first 300-400 items dropped Friday, and nearly all sold out. Each week 100-200 more items of "the unusual, the rare, the weird and the overlooked" will be available, according to the website. "Det som engang var," an album by the Norwegian black metal solo project Burzum is still available with a list price of $1,500. All items purchased are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the collection's administrator, Byron Coley. What they're saying:"Steve pursued many fields of interest, and most of them are represented somewhere in his collections," according to the website.

Nirvana Brings Two Classic Albums Back To The Charts

Four of Nirvana's albums appear on the U.K. charts this week, with two, Nevermind and In Utero, ... More reappearing on at least one list apiece. Photo by Frank Micelotta. *** Special Rates Apply *** Call for Rates *** Even with just a few albums to the band's name, Nirvana's ability to hold on and find positions on multiple charts is special. As this week's U.K. music rankings show, the group's catalog still connects in a major way with a huge audience, which is willing to listen however they can. The legendary outfit doesn't claim a massive discography, and in the decades since the group disbanded, the steady drip of additional content has remained small. But what Nirvana lacked in quantity, it more than made up for in impact. More than 30 years after the band's breakthrough, fans are still streaming, buying, and rediscovering everything the grunge pioneers ever shared. This frame, four different Nirvana projects appear on various U.K. albums rankings — and two of them manage to return, proving once again that even a handful of projects can go a very long way. Among the two Nirvana albums that stage comebacks this week, Nevermind is the higher-rising of the pair. The band's blockbuster collection reappears on the Official Vinyl Albums chart at No. 37. That return brings the group back to the top 40 on one of the U.K.'s most specific tallies. Nevermind doesn't only land on the one tally this week. The classic title appears inside the top 40 on four separate charts in the U.K. This frame, it reenters both the Official Album Sales and Official Physical Albums rankings at No. 37, matching its placement on the Vinyl Albums tally. Over on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, the full-length climbs three spaces to No. 5. The other Nirvana collection to rejoin the U.K. charts this week is In Utero. While it doesn't perform as well as Nevermind, the album still manages to break back onto a pair of rankings. The title appears at No. 88 on the Official Physical Albums list and No. 95 on the Official Album Sales tally. At the same time, it pushes forward on the Official Rock & Metal Albums roster, lifting three rungs to No. 16. While Nevermind and In Utero are the only Nirvana releases that return in any fashion, two other efforts from the band are also present. The self-titled compilation Nirvana dips slightly on the Official Albums chart to No. 89, but it improves on the Official Albums Streaming ranking, moving up to No. 77. Meanwhile, Unplugged in New York — the live project released shortly after Kurt Cobain's death — rises from No. 26 to No. 19 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking.

Nirvana's Final Album Returns To Multiple Charts At Once

Nirvana charts four albums in the U.K. this week, including In Utero, which hits 52 weeks on one ... More list, and Nevermind, which appears on four rankings. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic) Nirvana is having a massive week on the U.K. charts, which is not unusual for the act, even though the grunge pioneers broke up decades ago. Four of the band's albums find space on at least one tally apiece. Some reappear after time away, others improve from where they landed last frame, and in one case, a title returns to multiple lists. While Nirvana never has a bad time on the weekly rankings in the country, this period is especially notable, and shows how beloved the rockers remain to this day. In Utero, Nirvana's final studio album, reappears on two U.K. charts this frame while simultaneously climbing on a third. The title comes back to the Official Physical Albums chart at No. 88, and also re-enters the Official Albums Sales chart at No. 95. Both lists focus on pure purchases — digital and physical, respectively — and the set's return to the pair is a strong indicator that the project isn't just being listened to, but that there's still a real desire for fans to own it. In addition to bouncing back onto those tallies, In Utero also improves its standing on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. This week, it moves up from No. 19 to No. 16, continuing a long run on the genre-specific list that spans hundreds of weeks. As of this period, In Utero has now spent a full year — 52 weeks — on the Official Physical Albums chart. Some may be surprised that a set that was first released more than 30 years ago only hits that number now, but it still reaches the milestone nonetheless. The project has reached the Official Albums Sales list less consistently, as it's managed just nine total appearances there. On the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking, however, In Utero is a regular. The full-length has now charted for more than 540 weeks, and it will continue to add to that sum seemingly every frame. While In Utero is bouncing back onto multiple tallies, Nirvana's Nevermind is having an even bigger week. The band's iconic release finds space on four different tallies in the U.K., more than any other project from the band this time around. It improves on three of those lists and reappears on a fourth – another great sign for the blockbuster. Even more impressively, Nevermind holds inside the top 40 on all four rankings. The band's self-titled compilation Nirvana, released in 2002, also finds itself on a pair of U.K. lists this week, though its performance is somewhat uneven. On the Official Albums chart, which ranks the most-consumed full-lengths in the country, the compilation slips to No. 89. That dip is offset, at least slightly, by a small gain on the Official Streaming Albums chart, where it rises one spot, settling at No. 77. Another one of the only releases from Nirvana's discography, MTV Unplugged in New York, is still present in the U.K.. The set, which was released after frontman Kurt Cobain's death, bolts seven spaces this week to land at No. 19 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart.
