NordVPN's eSIM goes premium
Nord Security has launched its most complete eSIM plan designed for total cybersecurity protection abroad – Saily Ultra. This is Saily's most premium plan and it's created by the team behind our best VPN, NordVPN. With Saily Ultra, subscribers get unlimited global eSIM data is on offer, along with a range of premium cybersecurity tools and special benefits for travelers. Plans include monthly subscriptions to NordVPN, NordPass, NordLocker, and Incogni – but it doesn't come cheap. Saily Ultra costs $59.99 per month, far more expensive than any NordVPN plan. Saily Ultra | Premium eSIM | $59.99 per month Saily Ultra grants you up to 30 GB of high-speed data per month, as well as unlimited low-speed data in 113 countries. You can change your location and protect your data from trackers. Plans include NordVPN, NordPass, NordLocker, and Incogni, plus extra perks, and costs $59.99 per month. Saily is a secure eSIM offering mobile data coverage in 200+ countries. The Ultra plan grants you 30 GB of high-speed data every month, with unlimited data after this is used up. Speeds are capped at 1 Mbps for this unlimited data, though. 113 destinations are covered by unlimited eSIM connectivity, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Saily has built-in cybersecurity features including an ad blocker and web protection which blocks malicious sites and limits trackers. In late 2024, Saily introduced Virtual Location and this allows users to change their browsing location. Over 115 locations are available and your traffic will be routed through one of NordVPN's encrypted servers. However, Saily Ultra throws in almost all cybersecurity tools Nord Security has to offer. You'll get monthly subscriptions to NordVPN – our pick for best travel VPN. You'll benefit from super fast speeds of 900 Mbps, protection for up to 10 devices, and over 8,000 servers across 126 countries. NordVPN is one of the best streaming VPNs thanks to its powerful unblocking capabilities. So no matter where you are abroad, you'll be able to watch your favorite shows as if you were sitting on the couch at home. You'll also get NordPass, one of the best password managers, 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage with NordLocker, and the data removal service Incogni. Saily said users are given subscriptions to the NordVPN Ultra plan. A standalone NordVPN Ultra plan is currently a Canadian-exclusive and costs CA$7.71 per month, with a free CA$50 Amazon gift card thrown in, thanks to our exclusive deal. If you're in America and want all these features, but not Saily, you'd need to subscribe to a NordVPN Complete plan for $4.62 per month. Incogni is then an extra $4.28 per month add-on, bringing your total monthly cost to $8.90. You can explore all NordVPN's features in our NordVPN review and our NordVPN prices and plans page compare everything offered by the provider. NordVPN: Amazon gift cards + 4 months FREE NordVPN is our pick for #1 VPN overall, combining speed, security, privacy, and power. There's over 8,000 servers worldwide and protection for up to 10 devices. Until August 12, thanks to our EXCLUSIVE DEAL, plans start from $2.91 per month ($81.36 up front pre-tax). All plans include 4 extra months of protection and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Premium plans include free Amazon gift cards worth up to $50. Saily Ultra's exclusive perks go beyond just cybersecurity. 8% cashback, in the form of Saily credits, will be granted on all data purchases – other Saily users get 5%. Ultra subscribers will also get priority access to Saily's 24/7 support team, ensuring you get the fastest fix for your problem. With Saily Ultra, you'll have access to airport lounges in selected airports and a fast-track service at security and check-in. Saily says these perks are coming soon and will let users know when they are ready. Saily Ultra is billed monthly and you can cancel your subscription up to two days before your next payment. "The Saily Ultra plan is designed for travelers who demand the best, blending convenience, premium service, and innovation," said Vykintas Maknickas, CEO of Saily. "We're taking care of your connectivity needs, increasing online privacy and security, and providing extra luxuries on the go – all in one plan." Whether Saily Ultra is worth it depends on how frequently you travel and how much data you'll use. Saily says Ultra is "ideal for frequent and business travelers, as well as digital nomads." So for most people, regular Saily plans and regular NordVPNs represent better value. A high-speed data limit of 30 GB is somewhat disappointing considering the price you're paying. For comparison, 20 GB of data for 30 days in the UK is $31.99. 30 days of unlimited UK data is $71.99 but only 5 GB per day is high-speed. Regardless of whether Saily Ultra is for you or not, a VPN and eSIM are the perfect companions for trips abroad. Free public Wi-Fi can be exploited by hackers and this risk is heightened when you're in an unfamiliar country. Using secure data via an eSIM means you can avoid Wi-Fi altogether but should you need to connect to it, a VPN will ensure your data is encrypted and hidden from prying eyes. Using a VPN to connect to your home country means you can browse the web and access your usual sites and apps in the same way you would normally. Additional cybersecurity protections mean all your devices remain protected, no matter where you are. We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Accessing a service from another country (subject to the terms and conditions of that service). 2. Protecting your online security and strengthening your online privacy when abroad. We do not support or condone the illegal or malicious use of VPN services. Consuming pirated content that is paid-for is neither endorsed nor approved by Future Publishing.

World-famous VPN company embroiled in class-action lawsuit
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against NordVPN, with the provider's practices around automatic subscription renewals brought into question. NordVPN is not the only provider to adopt these tactics – many of the best VPNs do, and indeed it's part and parcel of most subscription service industries – but the lawsuit claims that NordVPN's are "illegal" and "deceptive". The claim names Nordvpn S.A, Tefincom SA, and Nordsec B.V. as the defendants, and Lanzy Kandeh as the plaintiff. It was first filed on March 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, with violations of state consumer laws alleged. It is alleged that Nord Security doesn't adequately warn customers that their subscriptions will auto-renew. The lawsuit describes this practice as a "negative option" feature. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) says this is a "condition under which a seller may interpret a consumer's silence, failure to take an affirmative action to reject a product or service, or failure to cancel an agreement as acceptance or continued acceptance of the offer." Put simply, unless you cancel your NordVPN subscription, the provider will assume you want it to continue and automatically renew your subscription – at an inflated price. The lawsuit claims these are "deceptive and unlawful subscription practices" and argues they are "designed to entrap consumers". Lanzy Kandeh claims he didn't know his NordVPN subscription would renew automatically. He said he was "charged $119.08 for another year of that subscription that he did not want". According to the claim, Nord Security is said to mislead users in the following six ways: As well as himself, Kandeh is looking to represent any New Yorker affected by auto-renewals and is seeking damages of $50 million. Kandeh reported that he subscribed to a two-year NordVPN plan in December 2023 and then a one-year subscription to Incogni data removal service – which is owned by Nord Security. He said that Nord Security "deceived" him into believing the Incogni subscription would cease after one year. But the plan auto-renewed and Kandeh said he couldn't work out how to cancel his NordVPN and Incogni subscriptions. A refund was obtained via PayPal, but Kandeh said he "did not authorize or want his Nord Subscriptions to renew". A similar case was brought against NordVPN in 2024 and was filed in a Colorado federal court. Again, "deceptive" auto-renewal tactics were the subject of the lawsuit. It's not just NordVPN that has faced these accusations. In 2022, an investigation was opened against Proton VPN. Its auto-renewal tactics were described as "potentially fraudulent." Tom's Guide reached out to NordVPN regarding the lawsuit. A NordVPN spokesperson said: "Nord Security continuously strives to provide an excellent customer experience and complies with legal requirements." "We have responded to the lawsuits but cannot comment on the specific allegations at this time, other than to state that we are and always have been very clear about the recurring nature of our services." Do you want to protect your privacy online with one of the best VPNs but not sure if a VPN is for you? You're in luck, as Surfshark has just launched a 7-day free trial of its VPN for all first-time users. The trial is available for all one and two-year Surfshark plans and it allows you to try out everything the best streaming VPN has to offer. Surfshark previously offered a 7-day free trial for iPhone and Android VPN users, but has now extended this to all devices – making it one of the best VPN free trials out there. Surfshark: the best cheap VPNSurfshark sits at #2 in our best VPN list and we rate it as the best cheap VPN. It's also the fastest VPN we've tested and is very reliable for streaming. You can protect an unlimited number of devices on one plan and it boasts some great features including Alt ID, Bypasser, and Antivirus. The 2-year deal works out at $2.19 per month ($59.13 up front before tax), with an extra 3 months included for free. You can try all this with Surfshark's 7-day free trial and 30-day money-back guarantee. Surfshark is the first major VPN provider to offer a true 7-day free trial for all devices. NordVPN offers a 7-day free trial on Android, and CyberGhost has a 7-day free trial for its iPhone VPN app. Most leading VPN providers provide a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, these require you to pay up front – something not necessary with Surfshark's 7-day free trial. You have to enter your card details to sign-up for the trial, but payment won't be taken until it's complete. You can cancel beforehand, and even after finishing the trial, you can still benefit from Surfshark's 30-day money-back guarantee and claim a refund if you like. To try out Surfshark for free, first head to its website and select your desired plan. Then enter your email address and payment details to confirm you're a first-time user. Next, fill in your login credentials to create an account. Surfshark's free trial can be activated on up to three devices at once, so it doesn't matter which device you sign-up on. Now you're all set, and can download the Surfshark app, enabling you to protect your privacy online. Surfshark is lightning quick and the fastest VPN out there. In our testing it hit speeds of over 950 Mbps and, as long as your internet connection is solid, it will never slow you down. As a result, we rate Surfshark as the number one streaming VPN. It had no issues unblocking any of the streaming sites we threw at it, so whether it's Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, or BBC iPlayer, Surfshark has you covered. You can protect an unlimited number of devices on one plan with rock solid privacy and security. Alternative ID is included with all plans, allowing you to create a fake online persona. A kill switch and Surfshark's version of split tunneling – Bypasser – are present too. The more expensive Surfshark One plan includes Surfshark's award-winning Antivirus and ID alerts. The data removal service Incogni is thrown in with the most expensive plan, Surfshark One+. Surfshark also has paid add-ons such as Dedicated IP and Alternative Number. We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Accessing a service from another country (subject to the terms and conditions of that service). 2. Protecting your online security and strengthening your online privacy when abroad. We do not support or condone the illegal or malicious use of VPN services. For Surfshark's Birthday, It's Giving You A Gift: 87% Off Its Top-Tier VPN
PCMag editors select and review products independently. If you buy through affiliate links, we may earn commissions, which help support our testing. Typically you don't get other people presents when it's your birthday, but Surfshark is anything but typical. Launched in April of 2018, the company is celebrating a lucky seven years in business with a deep discount on their VPN plans, with monthly service as low as $1.99. If you're not using a virtual private network, it's time to switch over. Not only do they provide protection from tracking and data collection, but they also let you camouflage your location to interact with region-restricted content. Surfshark is one of our favorite options, and at this price, it's a no-brainer. Surfshark offers three tiers of service, all of which are discounted during the birthday sale. Surfshark Starter is the baseline package at $1.99 a month (typically $4.98) when you commit to a two-year subscription, with unlimited VPN access as well as the company's Alternative ID, which lets you create a false identity that obscures your personal information like age, location and email address. You can also add an Alternative Number for a burner phone to avoid spam and scam calls. The mid-range offering, Surfshark One, gives you all of the above plus Surfshark's in-house antivirus software to make sure you don't pick up anything sketchy while you're browsing anonymously, as well as the ability to send you alerts when your personal information is discovered in data breaches. That plan costs $2.49 a month on sale (typically $14.99), again with a 24 month commitment. Finally, the highest-end personal plan is Surfshark One+, which adds data removal by Incogni. That allows you to selectively purge the information that companies are holding about you from their databases on request, as well as allowing you to remove your personal info from those annoying "people search" sites. Surfshark One+ costs $3.99 a month with a 24 month commitment (typically $20.65). All three of these offers also give you three free months of whichever service you pick. In our review of Surfshark's VPN service, our experts said that it delivered on everything we want from a VPN: "unlimited device connections, tons of servers around the globe, speedy downloads, and excellent mobile apps." We were most impressed by the fact that the company maintains servers in over 100 countries for diverse location spoofing, as well as faster connection to your true location. Our only caveat was the subscription price, but this sale solves that problem. Don't think you need a VPN? You might be surprised. We wrote an extensive guide on choosing a virtual private network and the many benefits they have. Surfshark VPN for $1.99 Per Month + 3 Months Free (87% Off 2 Years Starter Plan) Norton VPN Standard for $3.33 Per Month for 5 Devices (50% Off 1 Year Plan) NordVPN for $3.99 Per Month + 3 Months Free (73% Off 2 Years Plus Plan) ExpressVPN for $4.99 Per Month + 4 Months Free (61% Off 2 Years Plan) Looking to save even more online with your new VPN?
