Bernama Deputy Editor Among 27 Rukun Negara Reciters At Today's Launch Of National Month By PM Anwar
MUAR, July 27 (Bernama) – Deputy Editor (Content) Badrul Zaman Mohamad Yusoh was among 27 individuals who participated in the recitation of the Rukun Negara pledge at the launch of the 2025 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Dataran Tanjung Emas here, today.
He was selected by the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) as one of the 'Anak Merdeka' (Independence Child) who was born on August 31 as a symbolic gesture to ignite the spirit of patriotism and love for the country among the people.
The pledge recitation, led by an officer from the Ministry of Communications, Hafizul Zikri Mawardi, featured 10 'Anak Merdeka' from various agencies and 17 members of the Muar District Scout Association, symbolising the unity of Malaysians from diverse backgrounds under the shared banner of independence.
Badrul, 55, who has been with Bernama for 24 years, described the experience as an honour that will be remembered for a lifetime.
'I feel incredibly proud and humbled to be entrusted with representing the spirit of the Malaysian people. Reciting the pledge is not merely about saying the words, but a sincere promise to the country.
'As an individual born on August 31, I am proud to share my birth date with the country's historic day. It is like a symbol that I was born with the spirit of freedom and struggle. That date makes my responsibility towards the country deeper and more personal,' he said when met here.
Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UiTM) student Liu Jia Yuan, 18, said she was contacted twice by the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) to participate in the recitation of the pledge and initially ignored it because she considered it a 'scam'.
'For me, apart from being proud to be able to recite the pledge in front of the Prime Minister… activities like this can strengthen unity among the pledge reciters and instil a spirit of unity. It is learnt that the pledge reciters for today came from all over the country,' he said.
Meanwhile, a member of the staff at the Policy and International Division of the Ministry of Communications, Noria Munirah Yakub, 38, said it felt like a dream when she was entrusted with the honour earlier this month.
