8 deportees land in South Sudan after Supreme Court ruling

Deportees board a U.S. military flight in a manner similar to that in which eight were flown to South Sudan from a U.s. military base in Djibouti on Friday. Photo Courtesy of the Department of Homeland Security July 5 (UPI) -- Eight deported "migrants" who had been held at a U.S. military base in Djibouti are bound for South Sudan aboard a military aircraft that took off on Friday night. The flight carrying the eight deportees had been delayed for six weeks until the Supreme Court on Thursday ruled a lower court erred when it issued a preliminary injunction halting the deportations in April. "These sickos were finally deported to South Sudan on Independence day," said Tricia McLaughlin, Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary, in a press release on Saturday. Immigration and Customs Enforcement "deported these eight barbaric criminal illegal aliens who are so heinous even their own countries will not accept them," McLaughlin added. She accused federal "activist judges" of delaying the deportation flight. "We will continue to fight for the freedoms of Americans while these far-left activists continue to try and force us to bring murderers, pedophiles and rapists back to the U.S.," McLaughlin said. The federal lawsuit forced the flight to land at the Djibouti base while the matter made its way through the federal court system. The eight deportees include two from Cuba, two from Burma, and one each from Laos, Vietnam, Mexico and South Sudan. All have been convicted of crimes, including homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, sexual assault and sexual offenses involving a minor younger than age 12. The military aircraft left the Djibouti base at 8:30 p.m. EDT with each deportee secured by handcuffs and ankle shackles while surrounded by uniformed personnel, The New York Times reported. The aircraft landed in South Sudan just before midnight EDT on Friday.

Why July 4th is one of America's most dangerous holidays, according to ER doctors

As millions across the United States celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks, grilling, and family gatherings, emergency rooms are bracing for one of the year's busiest days. According to ER doctors and official data, Independence Day consistently sees the highest number of daily medical emergencies, with more than 45,000 people visiting hospitals on July 4 and 5 each year. Also Read: Chico cancels July 4 event after 'unpermitted' fireworks warehouse explodes Fireworks remain the most dramatic and visible source of injury. ERs across the country report a sharp increase in hand and facial burns, traumatic wounds, and eye injuries caused by fireworks mishandled or detonated too close to people. Live Events Children are particularly vulnerable. Doctors report cases involving corneal burns, eye scratches, and even permanent vision loss due to flying debris. In some instances, the loud explosions from firecrackers have led to temporary or long-term hearing damage, especially in younger children. Dr. Ryan Marino, an ER doctor and associate professor at Case Western Reserve University, told the New York Post that fireworks are only part of the story. 'This time of year, we see big increases in traumatic injuries and heat-related illness,' he said. While fireworks attract media attention, many patients are treated for falls, broken bones, head injuries, and car crashes. With people spending more time outdoors, engaging in physical activity, and often combining alcohol with these settings, the risk of accidents rises significantly. Drunk driving and alcohol poisoning Independence Day is also one of the deadliest times for drivers. The National Safety Council (NSC) projects traffic fatalities using federal data, and each year, hundreds of people lose their lives in alcohol-related road accidents around this holiday. Also Read: Just one hot dog a day may increase risk of diabetes and colorectal Cancer, researchers warn Doctors also see a surge in alcohol poisoning cases. Unchecked alcohol consumption, often involving mixing drinks or excessive intake in hot conditions, leads to a range of emergencies, from violent altercations to drownings and crashes. Grilling accidents Outdoor grilling is a hallmark of July 4 celebrations but also a source of numerous ER visits. Doctors frequently treat injuries such as burns, deep cuts, and even explosions involving propane tanks or hot coals. In some cases, these injuries can be life-threatening, especially when young children are nearby. Dehydration and heat illnesses With July temperatures often soaring, dehydration is a common but underestimated cause of emergency room visits. Many people celebrate outdoors for hours and fail to drink enough water. Symptoms can range from dizziness and confusion to severe organ damage in extreme cases. Tips to stay safe this Independence day Medical professionals recommend the following safety measures: Supervise children around fireworks and water bodies. Ensure life jackets are worn when boating or using personal watercraft. Stay hydrated and limit alcohol intake, especially when swimming or in the sun. Avoid cross-contamination while grilling by keeping raw meat separate and using clean utensils. Keep children away from sparklers, which can reach temperatures of over 1,200°F. Never drink and drive, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare service.

On Independence Day, Elon Musk throws a question to all Americans: If you want ...

Elon Musk has a question for all Americans on Independence day . The tech billionaire has shared a poll on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) asking whether he should end the two-party system in the US and create his proposed 'America party'. 'Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party ?,' he wrote in the post, followed by a simple yes and no poll. In a consecutive post, Musk wrote: 'One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts. Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sensação de queimação nos pés? Insira essa planta ao acordar G!Saú Undo When Elon Musk proposed to form America Party Musk first floated the idea of forming a third party earlier this month when he publicly criticised the 'One Big Beautiful Bill'. As the House Republicans has narrowly passed the spending bill in a 218–214 vote on July 3, Musk has reignited the debate with his latest Twitter post. 'Utterly insane and destructive. It will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!,' Musk has said in criticism of the post. In a previous Twitter post, Musk criticised the Trump administration's 'One Big Beautiful Bill'. He that if the 'One Big, Beautiful Bill' passes in the Senate, he will immediately move forward with launching a new political party called the 'America Party.' Musk argued that the United States currently functions as a one-party system dominated by financial self-interest. His post then read, 'If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.' "Time For A New Normal Against Terrorism": Shashi Tharoor On Op Sindoor

Georgetown: The all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor arrived in Georgetown, Guyana, where it was received with great fervour and enthusiasm by the members of the Indian diaspora. Upon arrival, Tharoor congratulated the people of Guyana in advance for their Independence day celebrations, and shared the purpose of the visit of the all-party delegation. Addressing the diaspora, Mr Tharoor said that the delegation was in transit in New York City where it paid tributes at the 9/11 Memorial. He underlined that the visit to the Memorial showed India's solidarity with victims of terrorism in that city. "I think this is something that unites many of us from around the world." Speaking about the interactions which will take place in Guyana, Mr Tharoor mentioned, "We are having meetings with the Prime Minister, the Vice President, other ministers, Foreign Minister. We're also hoping to see some MPs". Mr Tharoor highlighted in his remarks, "Our message is very clear. We have to stand against terrorism wherever it comes. We have to not only bring the evil killers to justice, but we must also seriously challenge those who are financing them, training them, equipping them, directing them to do their evil." Noting that India has been suffering from terrorism for four decades, he said that India has reached a point of "resolved determination" against terrorism. "We will never let anybody believe they can just walk across the border and kill our civilians or kill anybody in our country and get away with impunity... We feel we have to actually show them there is a price to be paid. That is the message that the government of India is sending and that all of us are echoing, which is that for us the time has come for a new normal against terrorism." Mr Tharoor in his remarks, urged the diaspora for their support. He said, "We are seeking all of you to join us in expressing support, in strength, in resolve, and in response to this kind of action if it happens again in the future. So this is the purpose of our trip. We are looking forward to joining the celebrations on your fifty-ninth Independence Day, and I thank you all very much for joining us today". The all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will project India's national consensus and firm stance on combating terrorism in all its forms. They will carry India's strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism to the global community during their outreach. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pak-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
