OnePlus introduces personalised AI features and hardware on upcoming 13s model: All you need to know

OnePlus has announced a strategic expansion into artificial intelligence with the launch of 'OnePlus AI', alongside a new hardware feature dubbed the 'Plus Key', which will debut on the forthcoming OnePlus 13s. Positioned as part of the company's broader push towards personalised AI integration, the Plus Key marks a new direction for hardware design. It builds on the legacy of the Alert Slider and allows users to assign custom functions — such as activating the camera, switching audio profiles, or initiating translations. The key will also serve as a gateway to 'AI Plus Mind', a new AI-driven feature that enables users to save and organise on-screen information. Through either a button press or a three-finger swipe, users can store content like schedules or event details. The system can then contextually analyse the saved material and integrate it with apps like calendars, promising a more structured approach to digital information management. Alongside the hardware addition, OnePlus revealed a suite of AI-based tools aimed at improving productivity and user interaction. These include: AI VoiceScribe : A tool to record, summarise, and translate calls and meetings within commonly used messaging and video applications. : A tool to record, summarise, and translate calls and meetings within commonly used messaging and video applications. The company also detailed an upcoming integration with Google's Gemini AI across OxygenOS and Google applications, enabling features such as real-time screen and camera sharing with AI-assisted interaction. In terms of data privacy, OnePlus outlined its Private Computing Cloud (PCC) approach, which supports both on-device processing and cloud-based computation within a secure, encrypted environment. The architecture utilises a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to safeguard sensitive user data throughout its storage, processing, and transmission phases.

OnePlus 13s brings big features in a small body – and locks them to one market only

OnePlus is getting ready to launch its new compact phone, the OnePlus 13s, and we already know pretty much everything about it – from specs to features. And yeah, it is kind of a small powerhouse, at least on paper. But if you were hoping to get one, you are probably going to be disappointed because, once again, availability isn't OnePlus' strong suit. Yep, the OnePlus 13s is not coming to the US or Europe. It is staying exclusive to India. And that's not all – a couple of new AI features, which will eventually roll out to the flagship OnePlus 13, also won't be available in the US or Europe. A bummer, I why is that? Well, there could be plenty of reasons, but I have a few ideas. Sure, OnePlus risks losing market share and alienating loyal customers in major Western markets, which could definitely hurt its global brand image. But at the same time, this could actually be a smart move on its part. By keeping the launch India-only, OnePlus can focus on a massive and rapidly growing market, test new features in a less regulated environment and avoid the crazy number of patent disputes and complex legal hurdles that are super common in the US and Europe. Plus, let's not forget how strict these markets are when it comes to data privacy – think GDPR in Europe – and how often tech companies end up stuck in legal messes over algorithms or features that process personal data. Skipping these regions could save OnePlus a ton of time, money and headaches. Still, the phone itself is very tempting. And if you are seriously considering getting your hands on it, importing might be your only option. But even then, you'll need to be careful. The biggest issue? Network incompatibility. Phones are made with specific cellular bands and frequencies for their target markets. So if you grab the Indian variant and try to use it on AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon in the US, there is a chance you'll run into problems – like poor or no signal, slower speeds or missing 5G support altogether. And that's definitely not ideal, right? The OnePlus 13s in Black Velvet. | Image credit – OnePlus That said, let's dive into what makes the OnePlus 13s interesting. It has a 6.3-inch display, which definitely counts as small by today's standards – especially when you think about how most phones from China now push beyond 6.5 inches. The panel supports up to 1600 nits of peak brightness and an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate. One feature I really like is Aqua Touch Glove Mode. It's pretty self-explanatory: you can use the phone even when it is wet or while wearing gloves. The design? Also worth talking about. The 13s is basically the same device as the OnePlus 13T that launched earlier this year in China, but with a few small differences. It weighs 185 grams, is 8.1mm thick and has a 50/50 weight distribution. That means the heavier components are placed on the bottom half to balance out the camera-heavy top, which should result in a better, more comfortable in-hand feel. Black Velvet Pink Satin Green Silk The phone will be available in three colors. | Image credit – OnePlus On the back, you'll find two cameras – a 50 MP main and a 50 MP telephoto. Up front, there is a 32 MP selfie camera with autofocus. Under the hood, the phone uses the same chipset found in the bigger OnePlus 13 and in some of the best Android flagship phones out there, like Samsung's Galaxy S25 series. Yep, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The battery is surprisingly big for a phone this size – 5,850 mAh – and it supports 80W SuperVOOC charging. OnePlus is promising impressive battery life and with that size, I totally believe it. There is also a new hardware feature worth noting: the Plus Key. This is OnePlus' first step toward building a personalized AI experience. With it, you can activate something called Plus Mind – basically a space to store stuff that's important to you. I imagine it is similar to Nothing's Essential Space that launched with the Phone (3a) Pro. For context, Nothing's version is an AI 'memory' system that saves your screenshots, voice notes and more – all in one place. So, Plus Mind is launching first with the OnePlus 13s and is coming to the OnePlus 13 sometime later. However, no timeline has been shared just yet. But one thing is clear – it is not coming to devices in the US and Europe. The OnePlus 13s officially launches on June 5 in India. If you are interested, keep an eye out for pricing and availability updates.

OnePlus 13s with Snapdragon 8 Elite processor confirmed to launch in India on 5 June: Here's what to expect

OnePlus has confirmed that its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 13s, will launch in India on 5 June. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer had previously announced that the OnePlus 13s would be an India-only model and would be available in three colour options: Black Velvet, Pink Satin and Green Silk. OnePlus 13s has also been confirmed to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor — Qualcomm's flagship chipset, which also powers the OnePlus 13 (review), the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, and the iQOO 13 (review). The upcoming phone will also be the first device to ditch the iconinc alert slider and come with the 'Plus Key', akin to the Action button on iPhone. The new key will offer many functionalities including changing ring profiles, starting recordings, taking pictures and more. Plus key on OnePlus 13s OnePlus 13s will come with a 6.32 inch display OnePlus 13s will come in three colour variants OnePlus 13s is expected to feature a 6.32-inch display. Leaks suggest that it could be a 1.5K 8T LTPO AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 1600 nits. The device may also support LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Unlike the OnePlus 13, the 13s may feature an optical fingerprint sensor. Furthermore, the phone may have an IP65 water and dust resistance rating, meaning it may not be fully waterproof like its elder sibling. The phone is expected to come with OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15, much like other OnePlus phones launched this year. As for optics, the OnePlus 13s could come with a dual camera setup with a 50MP IMX906 primary setup with OIS and a 50MP 2x telephoto lens. On the front could be a 16MP shooter for selfies and video calls. Despite the smaller form factor, the OnePlus 13s may come with a 6,260 mAh setup with support for 80W wired fast charging. Notably, even bigger OnePlus 13 comes with a 6,000mAh battery, but it also supports 50W of wireless charging.
