Remove Ads Four of the eight responsible artificial intelligence (RAI) solutions developed under the IndiaAI Mission 's safe and trusted AI pillar are expected to go live on the mission's AIKosha portal between September and December. 'In India's context, if these tools are not designed with a whole spectrum of users in mind, including marginalised communities, they really do risk leaving a lot of people behind.'The risks could undermine AI's immense benefits if proactive measures are not taken for responsible development and usage, he added.

The IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will acquire 14,000 Graphics Processing Units in addition to the 18,000 already procured, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday. GPUs are in high demand for training and deploying AI models. Speaking at an event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Mr. Vaishnaw said, 'Our target was to have 10,000 GPUs made available to everybody; create a bank of GPUs, create a data center of GPUs and open it to all possible people who would like to use it for a fee. Against a target of 10,000 in the first round itself, we got 18,000 GPUs. Now we are about to get another 14,000 GPUs.' Under the IndiaAI Compute Capacity initiative, the Union government has procured GPUs in bulk to be hosted at a common compute facility, from which startups and academia who are registered on the platform can access the infrastructure for a subsidised cost compared to industry standards. GPUs have been extensively used for training generative large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and DeepSeek. Mr. Vaishnaw announced on April 26 that SarvamAI, a Bengaluru-based AI startup, will be the first to receive capacity from this facility to train a sovereign, indigenous LLM, a key priority for the IndiaAI Mission. After outlining the government's initiatives, Mr. Vaishnaw advised industry leaders to tread cautiously on AI: 'My request to the entire industry would be, use AI in a safe way,' he said. 'Use this technology in a very proper way and have a humane approach. When such disruptions happen, then society goes through a very big change and that change must be dealt with in a very humane way.'
