Highway robbers loot cash in Latehar
Daltonganj: Latehar police on Friday arrested a gang of five youths who not just looted cash from commuters on state highway but also robbed them of cold drinks and water bottles. Addressing a press conference, SP Latehar Kumar Gaurav said, "Chhipadohar police, along with Garu police and a small action team of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB), recovered 156 boxes of cold drinks and 31 boxes of bottled water on Thursday — all looted from the stretch of state highway 9 under the Chhipadohar police station limits in the past weeks. We also recovered Rs 4,50,000 cash from the five highway robbers." Among the five nabbed, Hari Nandan (22) is from Latehar district, while the other four, namely Shubham (21), Dhiraj (21), Rohit (20), and Azad Ansari (23) belonged to Garhwa district. Police recovered nearly half a dozen four-wheelers that the culprits used in the commission of state highway hold-ups. Sources said this gang was operative over the last two weeks only when the police busted it and nabbed five of its members.

Centre sanctions creation of one more India Reserve Battalion of TSR: Tripura CM
Agartala (Tripura) [India], May 16 (ANI): The Union Home Ministry has ordered the creation of another India Reserve Battalion (IRB) of Tripura State Rifles in the state, Chief Minister Manik Saha said. The decision has been taken based on Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha's proposal placed before Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his meeting in Delhi. Announcing the decision, CM Saha wrote on Facebook, 'Big boost for Tripura! Union Ministry of Home Affairs sanctions raising of another India Reserve Battalion for Tripura State Rifles, enhancing security and generating employment opportunities. Grateful to PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.' According to officials, the Government of India shall reimburse a one-time financial assistance of Rs50 crore for raising one IR Battalion. The Centre will exercise the right of first call on the IR Battalion and shall have full authority to ask the State to make the Battalion available for deployment anywhere in the country, as and when required. Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha completed three years as CM on Thursday. Saha assumed charge as Chief Minister of Tripura on May 15, 2022. CM Saha credited the people of the state for the work his government has carried out in the last three years. 'With the blessings of the Prime Minister, I assumed the responsibility of the Chief Minister on this day, 15th May 2022. Later, when the BJP came to power for the second time, I was once again entrusted with this responsibility. Today marks the completion of three years in this role,' CM Saha told ANI. (ANI)

ASI held with 41 gms of heroin in Bathinda jail
Bathinda: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the India Reserve Battalion was arrested with 41 gm of heroin from Bathinda jail . ASI Gurpreet Singh had been posted in the jail for long, and the drug was found in his possession on Saturday. The jail authorities searched the ASI on suspicion. It is suspected that the drug was to be supplied to certain inmates for money. Bathinda deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sarbjit Singh said after receiving information from the jail authorities, a case had been registered against ASI Gurpreet under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act and the Prisons Act and he was arrested. On April 2, a woman head constable, Amandeep Kaur, was arrested with 17.71 gm. She has since been sacked. TNN
