Centre sanctions creation of one more India Reserve Battalion of TSR: Tripura CM
The decision has been taken based on Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha's proposal placed before Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his meeting in Delhi.
Announcing the decision, CM Saha wrote on Facebook, 'Big boost for Tripura! Union Ministry of Home Affairs sanctions raising of another India Reserve Battalion for Tripura State Rifles, enhancing security and generating employment opportunities. Grateful to PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.'
According to officials, the Government of India shall reimburse a one-time financial assistance of Rs50 crore for raising one IR Battalion.
The Centre will exercise the right of first call on the IR Battalion and shall have full authority to ask the State to make the Battalion available for deployment anywhere in the country, as and when required.
Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha completed three years as CM on Thursday.
Saha assumed charge as Chief Minister of Tripura on May 15, 2022.
CM Saha credited the people of the state for the work his government has carried out in the last three years.
'With the blessings of the Prime Minister, I assumed the responsibility of the Chief Minister on this day, 15th May 2022. Later, when the BJP came to power for the second time, I was once again entrusted with this responsibility. Today marks the completion of three years in this role,' CM Saha told ANI. (ANI)

"Earlier governments used to treat them like slaves," he said, adding that there was a provision in the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act that sanitation workers could be jailed for a month on failure to report for duty without prior notice. "What they used to think about sanitation workers? You will put them in jail for a small mistake," Modi asked. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition party members are often seen carrying a copy of Constitution, swearing to protect it from the onslaught of the ruling BJP. The Opposition parties which now talk big things about social justice had enacted many such rules and laws in the country, Modi said, adding that the government is identifying and repealing such regressive laws. He pointed out that certain political parties are still unable to accept the public's mandate. He stated that these parties have distanced themselves from both public trust and ground realities. Recalling how, a few months ago, conspiracies were hatched to pit the people of Delhi and Haryana against each other, the prime minister mentioned that false claims were made alleging that Haryana residents were poisoning Delhi's water supply. He asserted that Delhi and the entire NCR have now been freed from such negative politics.

London [UK], August 17 (ANI): Opposition is mounting against China's controversial plans to build a so-called 'mega-embassy" at the historic Royal Mint Court site in central London, with campaigners warning that it will be used to 'monitor and harass" those against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), including members of the Tibetan community in a series of posts on X, London-based group Free Tibet revealed that while the UK government had previously appeared ready to approve the embassy, fresh questions are now being raised over its scale, secrecy, and implications for residents. One of its posts stated that protests under the banner 'No Mega-Embassy" have brought parts of London to a standstill, with demonstrators spilling onto major junctions and blocking traffic for hours. Those opposed to the project include Tibetans, Uyghurs, Hong Kongers, Mongolians, Taiwanese, and Chinese dissidents, alongside Tower Hamlets residents, local councillors, MPs, and members of the law enforcement community. 'China's proposed 'mega-embassy' in London is more than an oversized diplomatic building; it is a multi-dimensional threat," Free Tibet said in one of its posts. 'With key details of its plans redacted, there is a real risk that the site will be used to monitor and harass those who speak out against the CCP, including members of the Tibetan community in Britain", the post said. Free Tibet argued that the mega embassy would significantly expand Beijing's capacity for surveillance, intimidation, and repression on British soil. Since 2019, Tibetan activists working closely with allied groups have been 'front and centre in the fight against the CCP's expansion into the very heart of London," the organisation Tibet called for a 'big push" protest against the project, urging communities to gather in London to prevent what it described as a dangerous foothold for the Chinese Communist occupied Tibet in 1950, sparking decades of resistance.
