R Ashwin on Tim David: ‘I shouldn't say this…told the decision makers of a few IPL teams to pick him'

Australian power-hitter Tim David has been in sublime form in T20Is. In the Caribbean, he managed to pull off a blistering ton, and in the first T20I against South Africa in Darwin, he pulled Australia out of trouble by scoring a substantial 83-run innings, which helped his team win the game. Earlier in the year, David was also part of the Indian Premier League-winning side Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Coming down the order, David played crucial knocks throughout the season and helped RCB nick off close games. Former Indian off-spinner R Ashwin claimed that he did flag a few franchises about David. 'I shouldn't say this, but I told the decision makers of a few IPL teams to pick him before the last auction. They all said, 'No, his game has dropped off drastically.' I believe the future of T20 cricket is going to be having tall batters with long levers and strong build. They are going to rule the roost if there are no changes brought to the wide line,' Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. 'A player RCB picked up at base price (₹3 crore) has taken his game to the next level. It's good to see Australia sending him up the order. A real steal for RCB,' Ashwin added. Intriguingly, David was seen wielding an SS Ton blade marked in the name of West Indies colossus Andre Russell who retired from international cricket after the previous T20I between the sides. 'I've spent a lot of time working on power hitting, but now I'm working on my shot selection. I've been carrying that Dre Russ bat around for a year, and it felt like it was the best time to use it,' David said at the post-match presentation ceremony after century in West Indies in the 3rd T20I. 'Was just having a great time in the middle playing for Australia. It was nice to have a period at home and get my body right. I didn't think I would get the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia, so I'm stoked,' David added.

The report cites 'gross negligence and dereliction of duty' by all parties involved. Thousands of RCB fans had gathered outside the stadium hoping to catch a glimpse of the Indian Premier League-winning team, even as the Congress government hosted a felicitation event at Vidhana Soudha, less than a kilometre away. The uncontrolled crowd swell led to a deadly stampede around 3.25 D'Cunha Commission was given a month to investigate lapses in planning, coordination, and crowd management. Over the course of the inquiry, the commission conducted site inspections, held multiple hearings, and recorded statements from eyewitnesses, police officers, KSCA officials, and government panel found that security arrangements were severely lacking. Only 79 police personnel were stationed inside the stadium, with no deployment outside. There were also no ambulances on July 17, the Karnataka government squarely blamed the RCB for the June 4 stampede. In its report submitted to the High Court, the government pointed to a series of lapses, including a public video appeal by cricketer Virat Kohli that it said drew an overwhelming crowd despite police denying permission for the to the submission, the event organiser, DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd, had merely informed the police of a planned victory parade on June 3 but had not sought formal permission, which is mandatory under a 2009 city order. Bengaluru stadium stampede deaths: One-man judicial commission presents report on lapses to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah

A one-man judicial commission constituted by the Karnataka government in the wake of the Bengaluru cricket stadium stampede submitted its report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday. Justice (retd) John Michael D'Cunha had been appointed by the state government to probe the stampede that led to the deaths of 11 people on June 4. The Justice D'Cunha commission had been tasked with investigating the lapses in planning, coordination, and crowd management during the stampede and was given a month to submit a report to the Congress government headed by CM Siddaramaiah. After accepting the report from Justice D'Cunha, the Karnataka CM said the report would be placed before the state cabinet on July 17. Siddaramaiah added that the commission submitted its report in two volumes. 'I have not read the report in full,' he said in response to a query on the findings. The Karnataka government had initially ordered a magisterial inquiry into the stampede alongside a police probe on the criminality involved in the stampede through multiple FIRs registered against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Karnataka State Cricket Association, and DNA Entertainment, an event management firm, for culpable homicide and negligence. The government, however, ordered the judicial inquiry and the suspension of five police officers – including the then Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda and two other IPS officers – for dereliction of duty after the Karnataka High Court took up a suo motu case and posed nine questions to the government for fixing responsibility for the stampede deaths. 'What happened near Chinnaswamy Stadium is an unfortunate accident. As a responsible government, we have taken accountability for the incident. We have suspended senior police officers, including the Bengaluru city police commissioner, and transferred the Chief of the State Intelligence Department. My political secretary has also been relieved of his duties. Additionally, we have constituted a one-member commission led by retired Justice John Michael Cunha to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter,' Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said last month regarding the actions of the government in the wake of the stampede incident. The stampede occurred outside the Bengaluru cricket stadium as thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the Indian Premier League-winning team, even as a government-authorised felicitation event was being held for RCB players at the Vidhana Soudha – located less than a kilometre away.

Virat Kohli shakes hands with Agilitas; RCB's IPL winning star makes massive investment at Bengaluru-based firm

Following the closure of his deal with Puma, Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Indian Premier League-winning star Virat Kohli has joined hands with Agilitas, a sports goods manufacturing company. According to sources reported by Moneycontrol, Kohli is believed to have invested ₹ 40 crore in the first tranche. Notably, Agilitas is headed by former Puma India head Abhishek Ganguly, who had played a huge role in roping the former India captain as the brand ambassador in 2017. With his association with Agilitas, Kohli continues his business relationship that he started years ago. The ₹ 110 crore-deal which Kohli signed in 2017 with Puma was reportedly for eight years ending in 2025. Back then, Kohli joined the likes of Jamaica's Olympic medal-winning sprinters Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, and French footballers Thierry Henry and Oliver Giroud among the global ambassadors for the brand. In his new role with Agilitas, Kohli's role will be more than an investor. The Indian cricketing icon will be one of the stakeholders in the company in exchange of money and play an active role in growth of the brand.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah summoned to Delhi to meet Congress high command

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was summoned to Delhi for a meeting with the Congress high command to discuss the recent stampede outside M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru that left 11 people dead. According to the Chief Minister's Office, Siddaramaiah will be in Delhi on Tuesday for the meeting. The meeting gains significance as the state government is under fire from various quarters following the tragic incident. Opposition parties have demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar resign from their posts by taking moral responsibility for the incident. However, both leaders have dismissed the demands. Speculations are rife that the high command could ask some key ministers to step down from the Cabinet by taking moral responsibility for the stampede that happened during a felicitation ceremony for the Indian Premier League-winning Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team. The Karnataka government, it can be recalled, suspended former Bengaluru city police commissioner B Dayananada and other officials a day after the incident. MLC K Govindaraju was also sacked from the post of political secretary to the chief minister, as he was blamed for pushing for the celebrations in the city. Siddaramaiah is expected to meet top party leaders along with Shivakumar, who is already in Delhi. The latter is in the national capital to visit a solid waste management plant run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Apart from the loss of face suffered by the government for organising a felicitation ceremony for the RCB team at Vidhana Soudha despite opposition by the police, the two are also expected to finalise the list of four MLC candidates, said sources. The four seats have been vacant for six months now. The meeting also comes ahead of a second special Cabinet meeting convened to discuss the Socio-economic and Educational Census, which was placed before the state Cabinet in April this year.
