Saifullah Khalid: Who's the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, mastermind of 2006 attack on RSS headquarters, killed in Pakistan?
Saifullah Khalid, who went by several aliases including Razaullah Nizamani Khalid, has reportedly been shot dead by three unknown assailants in Pakistan's Sindh province. Saifullah Khalid, who used many aliases including Mohammed Salim, was the mastermind of the terror attack on the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Nagpur in 2006. All three terrorists were shot dead in an encounter with the police. Before the RSS attack, Khalid was accused of plotting the shooting at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru in 2005. IIT professor Munish Chandra Puri was killed and four others were injured in the terror attack. The terrorists were, however, successful in fleeing the scene. After the police investigation, Lashkar terrorist Abu Anas, a close associate of Khalid, was chargesheeted. Anas remains at large. Khalid, alias Razaullah Nizamani Khalid, was also behind the attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh in 2008. Seven CRPF personnel and a civilian had died in the terror attack. The two terrorists had escaped in the darkness. Khalid became the head of the LeT's Nepal module around mid-2000. He was responsible for recruiting cadres, providing financial and logistic support and enabling the movement of LeT operatives across the Indo-Nepal border, reported PTI. According to India Today, the LeT commander married a local woman, Nagma Banu, in Nepal when he was living there under a false identity. Khalid reportedly collaborated with Lashkar's 'launching commanders' — Azam Cheema, alias Babaji, and the terror group's chief accountant, Yaqoob. According to ThePrint's sources, Khalid shifted back to Pakistan after Indian intelligence exposed the Nepal module of the LeT. There he worked with several leaders of the LeT and Jamaat-ud-Dawah, including Yusuf Muzammil, LeT commander for Jammu and Kashmir, Muzammil Iqbal Hashmi and Muhammad Yusuf Taibi. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Khalid was also assigned to recruit cadres from the Badin and Hyderabad districts of Pakistan's Sindh, along with collecting funds for the terror organisation. Lashkar's Saifullah Khalid shot dead Saifullah Khalid was reportedly killed by three unknown gunmen in the city of Badin. 'He left his residence at Matli this afternoon and was gunned down by assailants near a crossing at Badni in Sindh province,' officials in New Delhi told PTI on Sunday. Khalid was declared brought dead at a hospital in Sindh, with reports saying it was a case of personal enmity. Mysterious killings of terrorists in Pakistan There has been a surge in unexplained killings of high-profile terrorists in Pakistan in recent years. In March this year, Hafiz Saeed 's close aide, Abu Qatal, was allegedly shot dead by unknown assailants in the Jhelum district of Pakistan's Punjab province. The 43-year-old LeT commander was reported to be Saeed's nephew. Following his murder, the security of Saeed was increased. Sheikh Jameel-ur-Rehman, the self-styled secretary general of the United Jihad Council, was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Abbottabad in March 2024. Another terrorist was killed by unknown assailants in Pakistan. Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist Shahid Latif, believed to be the mastermind behind the 2016 Pathankot attack, was gunned down in Sialkot in October 2023. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Dawood Malik, a known aide of India's wanted terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar , was shot dead in North Waziristan by unidentified gunmen days before Latif's killing. Two motorbike-borne assailants shot dead Maulana Ziaur Rehman in Pakistan's Karachi in September 2023. He radicalised youth to take up arms and wage jihad against India. The same month, Abu Qasim Kashmiri was assassinated by unknown men while praying inside the Al-Qudus mosque in Rawalakot. He was believed to be the main plotter of the Dhangri attack in Rajouri district that killed seven and injured another 13. In August 2023, Sardar Hussain Arain, Hafiz Saeed's associate, was killed in Qazi Ahmad town in Sindh's Shaheed Benazirabad district. Paramjit Singh Panjwar, a Pakistan-based Khalistani terrorist, was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Lahore in May 2023. Bashir Ahmad Peer alias Imtiyaz Alam, a close aide of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, was killed at point-blank range by the assailants outside a shop in Rawalpindi in February 2023. Mountain Dialogue: India, Nepal pledge deeper climate, biodiversity ties
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Friday met with Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to discuss opportunities to strengthen cooperation in clean energy, biodiversity conservation, and protection of natural resources, according to a PTI report. Yadav was in Kathmandu to attend the 'Sagarmatha Sambaad' (Mountain Dialogue), a high-level forum focused on 'Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity.' Alongside his participation in the dialogue, he also held meetings with Nepal's Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba and his counterpart Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri. Strengthening Indo-Nepal climate collaboration Yadav and Foreign Minister Deuba discussed various aspects of the longstanding bilateral relationship. A statement from Deuba's office noted that the talks touched on broad areas of cooperation, especially concerning climate change. In a post on social media, Deuba wrote, "We took stock of the gamut of deep-rooted Nepal-India ties. Given India's role as a climate leader, we value HE Yadav's important perspective at the Sagarmatha Sambaad." The Nepalese foreign ministry noted that both sides recognised the shared challenges of climate change and agreed on the importance of collaboration to mitigate its impacts. Nepal PM calls for unified global action on climate Speaking at the inaugural session of the three-day Sagarmatha Sambaad, Prime Minister Oli pointed out the urgent need for honest dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collective action to combat the effects of climate change — particularly in mountainous regions. "The event was held with the understanding that preserving the Himalayas means preserving the Earth, the oceans, and humanity itself," said Oli. He drew attention to the increasing natural disasters affecting the region, saying, "Our homes are being washed away by landslides. Floods and droughts arrive unexpectedly, yet we remain strong. Our emissions are low, but our contributions to environmental conservation are significant. We hope that this dialogue becomes high in moral clarity, strong intellectual courage, and a firm shared vision to create a beautiful future."

Nitish calls for heightened security in state's border districts
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday directed officials to step up security measures around key infrastructure, such as bridges, railway stations, hospitals, airports and crowded areas in districts bordering Nepal or located near the Bangladesh a high-level security review meeting in Purnia in response to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Kumar urged civil and police authorities to maintain close coordination with military and paramilitary forces and ensure constant vigilance along international officials from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Border Security Force (BSF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Indian Railways were present at the meeting. They briefed the state leadership on security arrangements in the context of the ongoing situation at the India-Pakistan border following 'Operation Sindoor' and discussed coordination protocols with the state magistrates and superintendents of police from five border districts – Kishanganj, Katihar, Araria, Purnia and Supaul – alongside senior officials from Purnia and Kosi divisions, participated in the meeting held at the Mahananda Hall of the Purnia the officials, Nitish said: "Although Bihar does not directly border Pakistan, it is crucial to exercise extreme caution due to its proximity to Nepal and Bangladesh. Proper coordination with the army should be ensured and every possible assistance should be provided by the state govt," he meeting was attended by deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, water resources and parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, food and consumer protection minister Leshi Singh, principal secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena, development commissioner Pratyaya Amrit and director general of police Vinay Kumar.

65-year-old man sexually assaults 2 girls in UP
Representative image PILIBHIT: Two girls aged 5 and 6 years were sexually assaulted by a 65-year-old man in Pilibhit district. This incident occurred merely two days after a 5-year-old girl was raped by a man in a village of the district and left in a profusely bleeding condition. The recent incident happened in an Indo-Nepal border village on April 30. The matter was reported to the police on Thursday afternoon, following which a govt medical officer conducted the medico-legal procedure of the the two girls at the local primary health centre. The two girls, who are close friends, went to a shop at 3.30 pm to buy some household items, where the shopkeeper Jalaluddin, grabbed and sexually assault them. The victims narrated their ordeal to their family members and complained about pain in their private organs. When approached by the parents of the two victims, the accused abused and threatened to kill the girls. Following a written complaint by their fathers, the police lodged two FIRs in the matter under BNS sections 65 (2) (rape of a woman under 12 years of age), 352 (intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of public peace), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), and sections 5 and 6 of the Pocso Act . A police team led by the SHO nabbed the accused from a nearby village, from where he was likely to flee. He was produced before the remand magistrate on Friday and sent to jail under judicial custody.
