Did Lil Nas X Copy Model's Poses Without Giving Credit? Court Rules: 'Photos Were...'

Lil Nas X wins court battle over allegations of stealing a model's poses in his Instagram posts. A federal court has rejected the copyright infringement lawsuit brought against the rapper by freelance model and artist Rodney Woodland. Woodland had asserted that the artist borrowed photo ideas and posing from his Instagram photo shoots without giving him credit. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled in Nas 's favor, bringing an end to the nearly two-year-long legal war. The suit revolved around a set of promotional photos Nas shared in October 2021 before he released his Montero album. Woodland claimed that a number of the rapper's semi-nude promo shots, including the cover art for the single Industry Baby, copied poses and ideas he had already shared between August 2018 and July 2021. Nevertheless, the court determined the claims to be legally deficient. Based on court documents, the pictures in dispute on Woodland's page received little attention, somewhere between eight likes and 75. Whereas Lil Nas ' photos were viewed by large numbers of users, ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions. The court held that Woodland could not demonstrate a reasonable link establishing that the J Christ rapper ever viewed his work. Judges also concluded that the poses and visual concepts Woodland had used were not original enough to warrant copyright protection. The court pointed out that artistic motifs commonly employed cannot be copyrighted. The court pointed out that while both artists used identical themes, such themes are common features in art and photography and do not fall under the Copyright Act protection. Rodney Woodland's initial lawsuit against Lil Nas X, filed in June 2022 and subsequently reduced to a single claim for copyright, has been dismissed. The case has now been formally closed, bringing Woodland's legal action against the chart-topping artist to an end without leave to amend.

Lil Nas X says he 'lost control' of part of his face but is now doing 'much better.' Bell's palsy signs & symptoms you should know — and how it differs from a stroke

This article is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Contact a qualified medical professional before engaging in any physical activity, or making any changes to your diet, medication or lifestyle. Lil Nas X is sharing how one side of his face became paralyzed, but urged fans to "stop being sad" after what appeared to be a hospital trip. The 26-year-old rapper shared a video earlier this week where he seemingly can't control the right side of his face, and has since been posting updates on social media about his recovery. The "Old Town Road" artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, posted a video Monday evening where he's lying in bed wearing a hospital gown. In the post's caption, he said he "lost control of the right side of my face" and further explained in the clip how he couldn't properly smile or laugh. "This is me doing a full smile right now, by the way. I can't even laugh right. Oh my God, bro," the "Industry Baby" singer said in the video while in good spirits. The Atlanta-born star later took to his Instagram Stories to quell people's worries about him and his health. In one of his first posts after the video, he wrote he's "OK" in a blank post with text: "Stop being sad for me! Shake your a— for me instead!" The rapper, who released single "Hotbox" last month and is gearing up to release upcoming album "Dreamboy" this year, then shared various selfies of himself and his progress to recovery. One photo he wrote on-screen text saying he's going to "look funny for a lil' bit but that's it." On Tuesday, he shared a photo of the sky and palm tree with on-screen text saying people probably think they're being winked at when they see him, adding that he's "so cooked." He then shared a follow-up video on Wednesday of himself talking to the camera in a mirror, showing how his face muscles have already made some progress. "I've been chewing a lot so I can get this muscle stronger. It's much better, it's much better," he said to the camera. "My eyes, though, still have to play catch-up. But I can give a genuine smile, so that's good." While the rapper hasn't shared what he was told by medical professionals, people on social media shared he might've experienced Bell's palsy. Below, read everything you need to know about the condition, the symptoms and how it's treated. According to MyHealth Alberta, Bell's palsy "is a paralysis or weakness on one side of your face. Damage to the facial nerve that controls muscles on one side of the face causes that side of your face to droop." The condition comes on suddenly, often overnight, and will generally get better on its own in a matter of weeks. It affects both men and women equally, and most cases occur between the ages of 20 and 40. Minor symptoms of Bell's palsy may include drooling, increased sensitivity to sounds, loss of taste, dry eyes and pain behind your ear. But some of the more significant physical symptoms, according to the Canadian Association of Optometrists, include: Difficulty closing one eye Slurred speech Drooping of one corner of the mouth Inability to whistle A wrinkle-free forehead all on the same side Ocular symptoms might include the inability to close the eye on the affected side of the face, dryness, redness and a burning sensation of the eye. Some of the symptoms are the same between Bell's palsy and stroke. Regardless, it's important to get medical attention quickly in either case to ensure the patient gets the proper treatment. For stroke, it's important to remember the words "be fast." Each letter stands for: Balance: Be aware of any sudden balance loss. Eyes: Check for any vision loss. Face: Look for drooping on one side of the face or an uneven smile. Arms: Assess if there's weakness on one side of the body. Speech: Look for slurred speech or the inability to speak normally. Time: Call 911 if these symptoms are present. Symptoms like trouble finding words, eyes gazing in one direction, trouble walking and vision changes are more common in strokes. A person having a stroke may also have numbness on one side of the body or face, and weakness in the arms and legs on one side. On the other hand, a person experiencing Bell's palsy won't have that same weakness. They also won't have difficulty moving their tongue or eyes. The cause of Bell's palsy is unclear. However, most cases are believed to be caused by the herpes virus that causes cold sores, according to MyHealth Alberta. It can also be linked to other viral infections like the flu, chicken pox, shingles and Epstein-Barr virus. Other conditions linked to Bell's palsy include: Bacterial infections Lyme disease Inflammation of the facial nerve Diabetes Hypertension Pregnancy Multiple sclerosis Injuries Facial or dental surgeries Extreme exposure to cold Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do to prevent Bell's palsy since it's typically linked to an infection. If you live with health conditions linked to Bell's palsy, managing them may help reduce your risk. Otherwise, you can take care of yourself by performing basic facial exercises to strengthen the muscles in the face. Massaging your forehead, cheeks and lips may also help. Most people who have Bell's palsy will completely recover within three to six months. That's especially the case for people who can still partly move their facial muscle, MyHealth Alberta noted. A small number of people may experience permanent muscle weakness or other problems on the affected side of their face. If you need treatment, your health-care provider may suggest a variety of options for symptom relief and faster recovery. That might include: Eye care: You may be offered eye drops to soothe dry eyes, or you might have to wear a patch if you can't close the affected eye to prevent dryness, irritants or injuries. Oral corticosteroids: These can help prevent nerve swelling and may help you regain facial movement faster. Antiviral medications: You may take these to speed up recovery, but they're typically only prescribed in severe cases. Electrical stimulation: Some health-care providers will offer this treatment to prevent facial loss after Bell's palsy.

Lil Nas X reveals half his face is paralyzed: ‘Can't even laugh right,' he says from hospital bed

Grammy winner Lil Nas X stayed mostly calm, cool and pretty comedic as he informed fans from a hospital bed on Monday that he had 'lost control' of half of his face. The 26-year-old 'Old Town Road' and 'Industry Baby' singer shared a selfie video on Instagram documenting the stillness of the right side of his face as he attempts to smile. 'This is me doing a full smile right now,' he says with a crooked smile and his right eye wider than his left. 'It's like what the f—? I can't even laugh right, bro,' he added, laughing at himself. 'What the f—! Oh my God.' Lil Nas X, whose birth name is Montero Lamar Hill, did not disclose an official diagnosis or what might have caused the paralysis but continued to speak about his condition over several Instagram stories. In one story, he reassured fans that he is doing well and requested that they 'stop being sad for me!' The singer, who has endeared himself to fans with his cheeky sense of humor and his internet trolling, instead requested they 'shake ur a— for me.' In the final post shared from his hospital bed, the singer told his millions of followers he will simply 'look funny for a lil bit but that's it.' The 'Hotbox' artist continued to share updates early Tuesday morning via additional stories where he jokingly accused his cat of mocking his appearance and told fans he feels his face is 'already getting better.' In his most recent updates, Lil Nas X can be seen enjoying a rollerskating session in the sun. 'It's getting better y'all, I promise,' he said his latest video. 'It's gonna take a lot more than that to keep a bad b— down. This eye wonky, b— but I'm not.' A representative for Lil Nas X did not immediately respond to The Times' request for additional information and comment Tuesday. Prior to his hospitalization, Lil Nas X got candid earlier this month about being an openly gay musician amid the anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment and executive orders of the Trump administration. The musician, who broke out in 2019 for 'Old Town Road,' reflected on his controversial, Bible-inspired 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)' music video in 2021 and the backlash that came with it. In the video, the rapper notoriously pole dances from celestial heights to the depths of hell, where he gives Satan a lap dance before snapping his neck and becoming the lord of the underworld. 'Even right now, everything with the young males being taught these super conservative ways, at least in America: everything is shifting with this rebellious, hyper-masculine thing,' he told Paper. Later in the interview, the singer said he felt conservatives would 'actually try to kill me' if he had released 'Montero' in the current social and political climate instead of in 2021. Still, he told the magazine he is optimistic that 'things are going to be fine.' 'I'm not trying to minimize what's happening. I just think s— is going to work itself out, especially in the generation where everything is a trend,' he added. 'The second the next thing comes along, it will be like, 'Hey, we don't hate women and gay people anymore. Let's do something else now.'' Amid his hospitalization Lil Nas X received support from fellow artists in the comments of his Instagram post. Comedian Loni Love, 'Pose' stars Ryan Jamaal Swain and Dominique Jackson and playwright Jeremy O. Harris were among the celebrities sending the singer well wishes.

Lil Nas X Reveals The Real Reason He Turned Down A Taylor Swift Collaboration

Lil Nas X is one of the biggest young performers in the world. Thanks to his popular singles like "Call Me By Your Name" and "Old Town Road," the Georgia native has skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard charts on several occasions. He's also collaborated with many big-name artists, including Billy Ray Cyrus and Jack Harlow. However, there's one global superstar he turned down the chance to work with, and her name is Taylor Swift. During an interview with E! News, Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, revealed he almost had the chance to make headlines again with a collaboration with Swift. However, according to him, he just couldn't find his groove. "We were working on something," he said before explaining the "Lavender Haze" singer asked him to "try a verse" on one of her tracks. "But I couldn't catch a vibe for it, so it didn't happen." Despite that, though, Lil Nas X admitted he's "proud" of Swift, who is arguably one of the most famous faces in the music industry right now. He even praised the 35-year-old for her latest full-length project, "The Tortured Poets Department," which was released in April 2024. 'I love the album. She's been doing her thing. She's at the very tippety top. I'm thankful that she even considered me," he said. The "Industry Baby" singer didn't stop there, though. He teased that should a collab between them ever come to fruition, music listeners should be ready for "global" domination. "Tay-tay and Nassy," he joked. Lil Nas X dropped his second studio album, "Dreamboy," on March 28, 20225. The project features eight songs, including the singles "Need Dat Boy," "Hotbox," and "Lean on My Body." Although some of the singer's music has rubbed people the wrong way in the past, in this era, Lil Nas X is ready to be "carefree." 'It's gonna be fun. I've always been the girl to rile everybody up. I don't want to do that this time. I want to have fun," he admitted. Swift isn't the only pop diva from whom Lil Nas X turned down an invite. In October 2022, the Grammy-winner revealed Beyoncé invited him to a party for her critically acclaimed seventh studio album, "RENAISSANCE." However, he had to leave the "Single Ladies" singer in his rearview because of his prior work commitments. "I think it was on the day of one of the shows, and I was like, 'do I completely leave my fans stranded and don't come to the show to see Beyoncé or not,' but you know I couldn't," he explained. "Some time, though, for sure." The 25-year-old praised Beyoncé for her project, which has been described as a love letter to the LGBTQ+ community. Lil Nas X admitted that the songs, specifically "CHURCH GIRL" and "HEATED," made him feel "liberated." He continued: "The overall idea of this super duper pop legend, not even this music legend in general, going into this direction that's not really mainstream at all. I think that's just so big of her. It's liberating." After his successful first studio album, "Montero," Lil Nas X began partnering with various companies, such as M&M's, and a nonprofit organization called Sing For Hope. According to the Sing For Hope website, the company strives to bring "hope, healing, and connection" to "community spaces" worldwide, including "hospitals, schools, care facilities, and refugee camps." "I think my favorite thing about this partnership is that I get to work with a brand that's as legendary as M&Ms and knowing that it also has a cause helping spread music and inspire through connection," Lil Nas explained. In 2022, the "That's What I Want" singer made waves after he called out the BET Awards for receiving zero nominations despite having chart-topping songs and a No. 2 album. "thank you bet awards, an outstanding zero nominations again. Black excellence [grateful hands and white heart emoji]," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. After his comment, users challenged him, saying his style of music wasn't meant for the BET Awards. However, Lil Nas X clapped back, correcting his detractors with facts. He wrote: "no offense but u are literally of caucasian persuasion and trying to school me on an award show i've watched my entire childhood + it's not the hip hop awards + they have a pop category + ratio."
