Thor Rumor Has Me Nervous About Chris Hemsworth's Return In Avengers: Doomsday
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Hot on the heels of the release date of Avengers: Doomsday being marked for December 2026, another big rumor is making the rounds about the big movie coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time the chatter is all about Chris Hemsworth's Thor, and what the Russos have planned for one of the biggest OG actors in the Disney-owned franchise. If readers were psyched for the upcoming Marvel movie to hit theaters, this latest rumor from SuperHeroHype might give them pause. We've heard a lot of chatter about heroes who will fall when taking on Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom, and it looks like the God of Thunder might take a big fall when facing the supervillain. Chris Hemsworth was one of the few OG Avengers who escaped the Infinity War and Endgame unscathed, as we saw Black Widow and Iron Man die, and Captain America become far too old to keep his mantle. It's being rumored now that Marvel Studios has plans to give Thor a big send-off, and that it will happen either in Doomsday or Secret Wars. While there are no specifics as to how this will happen, one has to assume that death is on the table. Doctor Doom killing off Thor would be a major win for the villain, and an easy way for the Russos to pull on the heartstrings of longtime Marvel fans. There is no confirmation that this will happen, though it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility, given how the last major Avengers movies went. The good news about Thor potentially dying in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars is that no one in the Marvel universe can stay dead forever. We could always see Chris Hemsworth's Thor return in the future through some weird resurrection twist, so if he's willing to do more movies, Thor can always live on. More On Thor A Case For Why The First Thor Movie Is Still The Best Thor Movie Even if Thor is dead, there's always a chance that Marvel could opt to do a movie set in Valhalla. The Viking afterlife was seen in Thor: Love And Thunder, and could very well be the backdrop for a future adventure in the franchise. Wouldn't it be cool to see him back in the saddle and able to team up with Jane, Heimdall, Odin, and even Loki for another adventure? Let's also remember another warrior who died in battle who might be in Valhalla: Tony Stark. Imagine if, in some way, Thor can battle his way back from the afterlife with Iron Man and take down Doctor Doom together. That said, I'm just trying to make people feel better about the very realistic scenario of Thor possibly being killed off; we may not see Chris Hemsworth do another Marvel movie after he finally hangs up the hammer. It'll be quite a bit of time before we see what happens in Avengers: Doomsday. Until then, expect to see a lot more rumors about who may be involved and what may happen, and hopefully, we can avoid some leaks that spoil the movie for everyone.

Chris Hemsworth's heartfelt Thor tribute fuels speculation of MCU Exit
Although it's now official that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as 'Thor' in Avengers: Doomsday, the actor has released a video called "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor," which has sparked rumours that he could be nearing the end of his MCU Wednesday, the star took to his YouTube channel to release a one-minute and fifty-six-second video that features a mix of clips, behind-the-scenes footage and interview moments from Chris Hemsworth's time as the MCU's 'God of Thunder,' including scenes from all four Thor films and ensemble entries like Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War and also shared a message saying "Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!".While his heartfelt note feels like he's bidding goodbye to the iconic character, it's also widely assumed that Hemsworth will now appear in Avengers: Secret Wars—unless, of course, the Mighty Asgardian is destined to join his ancestors in Valhalla during this is not the first time; in the past also, Hemsworth suggested that it might be time to kill off the character."I feel like we'd probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I think it'd probably be the finale, but that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don't know... am I at that stage? Who knows?"Both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars have recently faced major delays, with Doomsday now scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars following on December 17, Russo brothers are set to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, marking their first MCU projects since directing The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame.

Scarlett Johansson Says Filming THE AVENGERS Was a 'Big Mess' and 'It Didn't Feel Very Cool' — GeekTyrant
When you think about The Avengers now, it's hard to imagine it ever being a gamble for Marvel Studios. But according to Scarlett Johansson, back when they were shooting the 2012 Marvel team-up, things didn't feel as polished or promising as the final product turned out to be. In a recent Vanity Fair interview reflecting on her acting career, Johansson revisited her time filming The Avengers , and she revealed that the cast had major doubts. While the movie went on to launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the stratosphere, during production, the vibe was... messy. The actress admitted: 'When we made the first Avengers, none of us knew what the potential of [the film] would be … when you added the characters all together, it felt like a big mess to be honest. Even on the set it felt crazy because we all looked insane. It's like, 'What are we doing?' I don't think anybody really knew if it was gonna work or not. 'I'm sure Kevin Feige knew it was gonna work, Joss Whedon knew it was gonna work, but the cast … it was blind faith, basically, that we all had in Joss and in Kevin Feige.' That feeling of uncertainty stuck with them throughout the production. The whole thing was unprecedented, after all. No one had attempted something like this before! Combining multiple standalone superhero films into one mega ensemble, it could have easily collapsed under its own weight. Johansson pointed to one turning point, which was the iconic 360-degree shot of the full Avengers lineup in front of Grand Central Station. That moment, now etched into cinematic history, was the first time it felt like it might all work. Johansson said: 'I remember that scene where we're all in front of Grand Central and you see the 360 of all the characters together. That was the moment where all of us were like, 'I think this is maybe gonna work.' 'It felt powerful … when we watched the playback, it looked really cool, but so much of it didn't feel very cool when we were shooting it.' It's wild to think about that kind of doubt, especially in hindsight. The Avengers smashed expectations, earning $1.5 billion worldwide and marking the end of Marvel's Phase One with a genre-defining bang. It proved that Feige's shared universe gamble had legs, and it opened the door for Infinity War , Endgame , and the ever-expanding web of characters and stories we know today. But that success wasn't guaranteed. Back in 2012, outside of Iron Man , most of the characters weren't mainstream icons yet. Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger had done modest business, and even the idea of combining multiple superheroes into one movie felt risky. Now, of course, The Avengers is considered the blueprint for the modern comic book cinematic universe. Thankfully, it wasn't just a big mess! Everything worked out and it was the beginning of something massive.

Chris Hemsworth Reportedly Wants EXTRACTION Director for Marvel's THOR 5 — GeekTyrant
After the mixed reception to Thor: Love and Thunder , Chris Hemsworth seems to be steering the God of Thunder in a different direction for Thor 5 , one with more grit and less goofiness, and according to a recent report, he's got a specific director in mind. Marvel insider @MyTimeToShineH posted on X: 'A source reached out, turns out Secret Wars won't be the end of his story. Thor 5 is in the works, no Taika this time, and Hemsworth's pushing for Sam Hargrave (the Extraction guy) to take over.' That seems like it mark a major pivot from the candy-colored chaos of Love and Thunder , and I'd be ok with that. It was previously reported that Taika Waititi was not involved with the film. As for Hargrave, he made a name for himself as the director of Netflix's Extraction films and was a longtime stunt coordinator for the Russo Brothers on several Marvel projects. The man knows action, and those Extraction films are pretty badass. If there's anyone who could return Thor to his more hard-hitting roots, Hargrave is a strong choice. Hemsworth has been candid about his feelings toward Love and Thunder . Despite its strong box office performance, with $760.9 million globally, it left a lot of fans feeling cold. The tone, heavily comedic and often cartoonish, wasn't what everyone was hoping for after the emotional highs of Infinity War and Endgame . Hemsworth even acknowledged the criticism saying: 'I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself.' He went on to say: 'I didn't stick the landing." Hemsworth previously opened up about the reception of the movie, saying that even his children's friends criticized the movie to his face. He said: "It's a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. We thought this one had too much humor, the action was cool but the VFX weren't as good.' I cringe and laugh equally at it.' He explained: 'I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It's always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it's always a ride. But you just don't know how people are going to respond." He also addressed those who criticized the movie, saying: 'Some audiences really wanted it to be just like the comics. But, you know, I always say, if you want it to be exactly like the comics read the comic. You've got to change things here and there to make it a film." While speaking at San Diego Comic-Con last July about Thor 5 , Hemsworth said: 'I have loved every second of the Marvel experience, and I'm always down to do more, but we're all sort of waiting to hear what's happening.' In another interview, he doubled down: 'Hey, mate, I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe and if there's more to come then I'm excited about it. Nothing official yet. I'm sort of waiting for the phone call and, and waiting for the news to see, let's see what happens. But, you know, I love it.' As of now, Hemsworth is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday , and likely Secret Wars too, but if Thor 5 really is happening, and without Waititi, it signals Marvel might be looking to give the character a tonal reset, which is needs. With Hargrave at the helm, we might finally get to see what a full-on action-thriller Thor movie looks like.

Thunderbolts* movie review: Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan lead Marvel's latest team-up
3/5 stars Advertisement Marvel needs a new team-up. Ever since the hugely successful Avengers movies Infinity War and Endgame , the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has struggled to replace the superhero collective that included Thor, Hulk and Iron Man. We had Chloé Zhao's 2021 film Eternals , but that proved to be a non-starter. A promising-looking reboot of The Fantastic Four is coming, but before that we have Thunderbolts* – and no, the asterisk is not a misprint. Behind it is Jake Schreier, who has trodden the typical MCU path by directing indies – Robot & Frank and Paper Towns – before launching into his first blockbuster. Clearly, he and his screenwriters are conscious of the post-Endgame malaise. 'The Avengers are not walking through that door,' we're told. 'We have no relatable heroes.' Advertisement The trouble is, the Thunderbolts are about as reluctant a team-up as you are likely to find in the MCU. Dubbed 'defective losers', this ragtag bunch of misfits is far from harmonious.
