West Bengal govt mandates screening of Bengali films in every cinema hall
New Delhi [India], August 13 (ANI): The West Bengal government has ordered the screening of at least one Bengali film each in all the cinema halls and every screen in multiplexes across the state on a regular basis. In an order issued by the state government's Information and Cultural Affairs Department, the films are to be screened during the prime time, i.e., between 3 pm to 9 pm. "After careful consideration of all aspects of the matter, and in exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (3) of section 5 of the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1954, the Governor is hereby pleased to issue the following direction to all licensees of the State," the notification read. It further stated that every cinema hall and all screens in multiplexes in West Bengal must mandatorily have 365 prime time shows/screenings of Bengali films throughout the year, with at least one Bengali show per day for the 365 days. It emphasized that the prime time shows must be held only between 3 pm and 9 pm. "Necessary amendment to the West Bengal Cinemas (Regulation of Public Exhibitions) Rules, 1956 will be made in due course. This order shall come into immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders," it added. The move has been taken in the wake of growing pan-India releases in India, with the West Bengal government aiming to increase the visibility of regional cinema. Prior to this, the government had taken another move by streamlining the process of setting up mini-cinema halls in the state to focus on Bengali films and content. "Over the recent past, we are in receipt of a few proposals for setting up of infrastructure for screening of mini-cinema (with particular focus on Bengali cinema and content). This has the potential to work as a catalyst for development of Bengali film industry and the business model suggests that it might also benefit local businesses to grow further," the letter read from the office of the Chief Secretary. The changes are believed to have the potential to boost local culture and help small businesses grow. (ANI)

Bihar vs West Bengal vs Tamil Nadu vs Haryana vs Assam: The pension is provided to individuals after they reach the age of 60. It serves as a financial support following retirement from service. On Saturday (July 26, 2025), Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar raised the pension amount of retired journalists by Rs 9,000 per month ahead of state elections to be held likely later this year. Journalists play an important role in democracy. They are considered to be the fourth pillar of democracy and have a significant role in social development. Thus, let us find out which state among Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Assam gives the highest pension to a journalist. After an increase in pension amount under the 'Bihar Patrakar Samman' scheme, eligible retired journalists, registered with the Bihar government, will receive Rs 15,000 per month instead of the earlier monthly emolument of Rs 6,000. Sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kumar wrote: 'I am pleased to inform that under the 'Bihar Patrakar Samman' pension scheme, instructions have been given to provide a monthly pension of Rs 15,000 instead of Rs 6,000 to all eligible journalists. Additionally, in the event of the death of a journalist receiving pension under the scheme, instructions have been given to provide their dependent/spouse with a lifetime monthly pension of Rs 10,000 instead of the earlier amount of Rs 3,000.' The West Bengal government provides a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to mediapersons under West Bengal Pension Scheme for the Journalists, 2018. According to the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of the West Bengal government, more than 160 journalists have been endowed with this benefit. According to government portal Tamil Nadu government provides pension amount of Rs 4,000 per month. The financial assistance has been launched by the Tamil Development, Religious Endowments, and Information Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. The age of the applicant should be 58 years or above. The Haryana government provides a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to accredited media persons of daily, evening, weekly, fortnightly, monthly newspapers, news agencies, radio stations, and news channels above the age of 60 years. However, the mediaperson should have been accredited with the Information, Public Relations & Languages Department, Haryana for at least five years. According to the Assam government's Information, Public Relations, Printing and Stationery Department, a journalist is given a pension Rs 8,000 per month. Tripura: CM Manik Saha declares 2 awards in honour of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee
Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 7 (ANI): On the occasion of birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday declared two awards in honour of Mookerjee and announced that the Agartala Town Hall will be renamed after him and a statue will be erected, said a statement from the CMO. 'We have decided that, on the initiative of the Education Department, the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Award will be given to those who have made special contributions in the workplace on Teachers' Day. On his birth anniversary next year, the Information and Cultural Affairs Department plans to present the Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Excellence Award to those who have made special contributions in social, political, national service, and administrative work. I am glad to announce that the Agartala Town Hall will be renamed in honour of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, and his marble statue will be erected,' said CM Saha. Today, the Chief Minister made a significant announcement while observing the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee at the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala, organised by the ICA Department. Saha said that everyone celebrates this day every year at both the government and various other levels. 'Today, we are celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. His thoughts, principles, and ideals are still relevant today. Therefore, we must learn about Mookerjee's philosophy of life. In the future, we must understand more about the work he has done for the people. After Narendra Modi took office as the Prime Minister in 2014, a change has been observed in the social system of India. The country and the state are moving forward by following the idea of building a state through social change, as envisioned by Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee for Akhand Bharat. He has shown us the direction to move forward,' he said. The Chief Minister stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working towards achieving self-reliance in the direction indicated by Syama Prasad Mookerjee. 'The Prime Minister is working to strengthen the economic base of the country. He is carrying out various social reforms. He has abolished the practice of triple talaq for women in Muslim society. The state government is also working in accordance with the central government's instructions. Since 2014, changes have been taking place in the country under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following the principles and ideals of Syama Prasad Mookerjee,' said Saha. The Chief Minister also stated that the present government has prioritised extending the benefits of government schemes to the most vulnerable individuals in society.
