Odisha CS visits Nagada village, asks administration to gear up development

Bhubaneswar, Odisha chief secretary Manoj Ahuja visited Nagada village in Jajpur district and talked to Juang tribal families to know about the progress of the development initiatives undertaken by the government in the area, officials said on Tuesday. At least 19 children had died due to malnutrition in the hilltop village in July 2016. Ahuja, then as the nodal officer of a task force, had visited the village. Accompanied by senior officials from various departments, including Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water secretary Girish SN and Jajpur district collector P Anvesha Reddy, the chief secretary visited the village on Monday and talked to villagers and inspected key development initiatives. Though a lot of development has been achieved since 2016, still a lot many needs urgent attention, an official accompanying Ahuja said, adding that the chief secretary has issued directions to the district administration to expedite completion of house construction under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. "As only sixty per cent of the houses were completed in a span of three years, Ahuja issued directions to concerned officials to ensure early completion of housing units," an official statement said. Information and Public Relations department in a post on X said: "Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, during his visit to Jajpur district, visited Nagada under Sukinda block to review the actual situation and developmental works. He inspected the under-construction Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, health services, women and child development, and drinking water supply projects. He visited the Upper Nagada Anganwadi centre and reviewed the ground zero situation." During interactions with beneficiaries of the 'Mamata Yojana' , the chief secretary asked officials to include all eligible individuals who were previously left out. The chief secretary also inspected drinking water tanks and found their poor maintenance and asked the officials to stress on water conservation for the use of villagers during the summer. Ahuja also asked the officials to expedite empowering farmers by allocating land ownership certificates under the Forest Rights Act. Similarly, found very few students attending schools and asked the officials to improve student attendance rates. The chief secretary during the visit found the village's tribal hostel closed for the last three years. He asked the District Welfare Officer to make immediate arrangements for its reopening.

A total of 3,057 students (2,815 boys and 242 girls) appeared for the THSLC examinations in 48 examination centres. Sixty-five students appeared for the AHSLC examination in the only exam centre in the State. A total of 206 students appeared for the SSLC (Hearing Impaired) examination in 29 exam centres and 12 students for the THSLC (Hearing Impaired) examination at the sole exam centre for it.

‘Ente Keralam' expo to begin in Kollam on May 11

'Ente Keralam', an exhibition and trade fair being organised in connection with the fourth-anniversary celebrations of the State government will begin here on May 11. Asramam Maidan will be the venue for the expo, showcasing the development, welfare, and service initiatives implemented by the governments in the district over the past nine years. Along with informative and entertaining sights, different cultural programmes and a food court serving a wide range of delicacies will be part of the event. Admission is free for the expo that will conclude on May 17. The expo will be held in an area of 79,000 sq ft, including a 55,000 sq ft air-conditioned pavilion, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The welfare schemes and free services of the government will be showcased in 156 theme stalls. In 96 commercial stalls, there will be product displays and sales at fair prices from various departments and government agencies. The main attractions include the Information and Public Relations department's exhibition showcasing the achievements of Kerala, an agricultural exhibition and trade fair, cultural and artistic programmes, a food festival, a book fair, sports, entertainment and knowledge-based programmes, a caravan tourism exhibition, a Startup Mission exhibition, science and technology exhibitions, a sports exhibition, a police dog show, a mini-theatre show, an exhibition introducing modern technologies, the sports and recreation sector, live competitions, quizzes, other activity corners, and selfie points. While various departments will provide government services free of charge, seminars, art performances and career orientation programmes will also be part of Ente Keralam. Various programmes aimed at raising awareness against substance abuse will also be held. Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal will inaugurate the event and Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, J. Chinchurani, will preside over the function. Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar will deliver the keynote address while District Collector N. Devidas, Members of Parliament N. K. Premachandran, Kodikunnil Suresh, and K. C. Venugopal, and Members of the Legislative Assembly M. Mukesh, M. Noushad, Sujith Vijayan Pillai, G. S. Jayalal, Kovoor Kunjumon, P. S. Supal, P. C. Vishnunath, and C. R. Mahesh will also attend.
