KUCHING (Aug 2): The Borneo Post is among seven top teams that have secured a spot in the grand finale of the Initial M SIM Racing Grand Prix, set to take place on Aug 30 at the Metadise Electronic Sports Club (MESC).
Also advancing from today's qualifiers are teams representing Bernama , RTM , Sarawak Tribune , Suara Sarawak , the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), and DayakDaily .
The qualifying rounds featured a time attack format, where participants raced against the clock rather than each other.
Drivers were challenged to set the fastest lap times within limited attempts on two circuits – the technically demanding Pertamina Mandalika and the high-speed Monza.
The Borneo Post 's Galileo Petingi had a tough start on the Mandalika circuit, initially struggling to gain momentum before finishing with a respectable time of 1:50.190.
Teammate Roystein Emmor delivered a steadier performance, clocking 1:56.304.
The duo recovered strongly in the second round at Monza. Galileo recorded an impressive 1:33.294, while Roystein followed with 1:36.950, securing their place in the final.
Leading both qualifying rounds was Sarawak Tribune's Alverdtekoster Anyap, who posted the day's best times 1:36.040 at Mandalika and a blistering 1:29.107 at Monza.
Winners of the grand final will walk away with cash prizes of RM1,000 (first place), RM600 (second), and RM400 (third), along with gold, silver, and bronze medals, certificates, and a three-month membership at MESC.
The event is a collaboration between MESC, Hazel Communication & Solutions Sdn Bhd (HazelComms), and KDJA, bringing together 17 journalists from nine media outlets.
It marks a unique convergence of journalism and esports, highlighting virtual racing as a powerful platform for storytelling, branding, and public engagement.
