Oman wins three medals at ITEX 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultanate of Oman won three medals (two gold and a silver medal) at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2025) in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. Innovator Badr bin Salim al Maqbali won the gold medal for his invention, Remote Control for the Operation of the Ring Bonding Unit. Innovator Malak bint Khalifa al Harthyah won the gold medal for her project, Portland Cement Composite Reinforced with Carbon Nanoplates as a Dental Filling. Innovator Yusra bint Yousef al Ghadaniyah won the silver medal for her project, Squid Ink Water Filter. Innovator Badr bin Salim al Maqbali also received the Best Innovator Award from the Bunyan Foundation for Social Services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2025) is one of the most prominent initiatives aimed at developing the capabilities of young innovators, enabling them to benefit from international forums to develop their ideas and exchange experiences with their peers from around the world. The exhibition represents a destination for inventors to showcase their innovative ideas to investors and businessmen in various fields, including agriculture, automation, manufacturing, biotechnology, construction, medicine, health, energy and other fields. Omani inventors win three medals at ITEX in Malaysia
Muscat – Oman won one silver and two gold medals at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2025) held in Kuala Lumpur that concluded on May 31. Badr bin Salim al Muqbali received a gold medal for his invention – a remote controlled device to operate a ring-bonding unit. Earlier, he won the Best Innovator Award presented by the Bunyan Foundation in Saudi Arabia. The second gold for Oman was claimed by Malak bint Khalifa al Harthi for her project involving a Portland cement composite reinforced with carbon nanoplates, proposed for use as dental filling. The silver medal was won by Yusra bint Yousef al Ghadani for her project titled 'Squid ink water filter'. Amna bint Ali al Siyabi, Research and Innovation Capacity Building Specialist at Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, described ITEX is a major international platform that allows young inventors to develop their ideas, connect with peers worldwide, and present their innovations to investors across sectors including medicine, agriculture, biotechnology, construction and energy. According to al Amna, the ministry received 59 applications for participation in ITEX this year. Twenty projects were shortlisted and assessed by a specialised jury, with the top three chosen to represent Oman based on creativity, feasibility and potential global impact. ITEX is held annually and brings together inventors, startups, investors and entrepreneurs from across Asia and Europe. This year's event featured over 1,000 inventions from more than 20 countries, offering opportunities for funding and industry exposure.

SIRIM Bags Six Golds, Four Silver And Two Major Awards At ITEX 2025
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- SIRIM Berhad (SIRIM) achieved oustanding success when all 10 of its participating projects earned accolades - six gold medals and four silver medals - at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2025), at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), yesterday. SIRIM, in a statement, said that its two top innovations also received the Best Invention and Best Green Invention awards in the Research Institution category. Among the gold medal-winning projects was the Automated Drone Station (ADS) for Smart Aerial Monitoring and Surveillance, which also earned the Best Invention award. It is a smart platform designed to manage, charge, and launch drones autonomously, without the need for human supervision. The Bioactive Antimicrobial Material Enriched with Citrus Extract for Sustainable Applications (BioCitrusProtect) project, which also won the Best Green Invention award, combines chitosan, bacterial cellulose, and naringin extracted from citrus to create a natural and effective solution for inhibiting harmful microorganisms, with potential applications in food packaging and coatings. Other projects that won gold medals included QUANTUMLFA: Revolutionising Hepatitis B Detection, a rapid test kit for detecting Hepatitis B surface antigen, and Sustainable Innovation: Biodegradable Microbeads from Pineapple Fibre, a sustainable scientific solution designed to replace plastic microbeads in skincare and personal care products. Other gold award recipients include the Digitalisation of Clear Aligners Production Through Direct 3D Printing project, which introduced a fully digital workflow for producing clear braces, and REP4WRD®: Agile Best Practices for Industry, a framework designed to help organisations effectively implement Agile methodologies. Meanwhile, four other projects earned silver awards: Green Plastics Sustainable Solutions Through G0-Terra Innovations; Smart Mosquito Repellent Dispenser (X-IOT); Low Pressure Storage System Using Amine-Functionalised Multiwall Carbon Nanotube (MWCNT) as Adsorbent Materials for Natural Gas Storage, and AI-Based Automated Data Extraction API for Dynamic Paper-Based Documents (aIDEA). SIRIM Berhad president and group chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said the recognition demonstrated SIRIM's commitment to driving sustainable solutions that not only advance the country's technological capabilities but also contribute to addressing global challenges.

The selected finalists are Yusra bint Yousef al Ghadani for her innovation titled 'Squid Ink Water Filter Project', Malak bint Khalifa al Harthi for her project 'Portland Cement Composite Reinforced with Carbon Nanoplates as Dental Filling', and Badr bin Salim al Muqbali for his invention 'Remote Control Device for Operating a Ring Bonding Unit'. The announcement was made during a ceremony at Sohar University, held under the patronage of H E Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of North Batinah. Amna bint Ali al Siyabi, Research and Innovation Capacity Building Specialist at the Ministry, stated that ITEX is among the most prominent international platforms for innovation, offering young inventors the opportunity to develop their projects, engage with their peers from around the world, and present their ideas to investors and industry experts across diverse sectors such as medicine, agriculture, biotechnology, construction, and energy.
