'Shrasti Raghuwanshi Instagram...': Why Are People Searching For Raja Raghuvanshi's Sister Online

Last Updated: Raja Raghuvanshi Murder: Shrasti Raghuwanshi, who claims to be the sister of deceased Indore man, is facing criticism for exploiting her brother's death for views and likes Instagram reels made by the purported sister of deceased Raja Raghuvanshi have gone viral on social media platforms ever since the Meghalaya honeymoon case came to light. The viral videos show Shrasti Raghuwanshi, who has 394K followers on Instagram, lashing out at Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife and alleged killer of her brother. While some videos uploaded by Shrasti show her in a joyful mood during her brother's pre-wedding festivities and rituals, other reels show the family mourning the demise of their loved one with the message that Sonam would be brought to justice. So why exactly is Shrasti, who claims to be Raja's sister, facing brickbats from social media users? The Honeymoon Murder A case that has made national headlines involves Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, a newlywed couple from Indore who travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon in May but did not return home. The couple vanished on May 23 after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat village sparking a massive search. Raja, a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was later found dead in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills district on June 2. This was 10 days after the couple had mysteriously disappeared. Raja's body was discovered with signs of murder. The breakthrough, however, came when Sonam, the wife, was arrested by the Meghalaya Police along with the three other accused. Sonam had 'surrendered" at Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh, the DGP told the media. The couple tied knot on May 11. Shrasti Raghuwanshi's Instagram As the nation watched the events unfold in utter shock, videos of Raja's sister began doing the rounds of social media. Shrasti's multiple videos of raising awareness around her brother's death, however, did not sit well with the viewers. Many have since accused the sister of 'clout chasing" and exploiting the family tragedy to gain traction and likes on the video and photo-sharing platform. The use of 'insensitive" hashtags has also left people on Instagram baffled. The said hashtags include '#trending" '#like" among many others. Promotional Posts As Shrasti faced accusations and a blanket condemnation for using the tragedy for personal gains, brand deal videos from when Raja was missing also brought her account with nearly 4 lakh followers a lot of unwanted attention. A day ahead of Raja's discovery, the sister shared a promotional video of a mobile store in Indore. Social Media Reaction 'Reel addiction is stripping influencers of basic human sensitivity," an X user wrote who goes by the handle @theskindoctor13 wrote before adding, 'Raja Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23. His sister, an Insta Influenza with 373K followers, kept posting promotional reels almost daily, even after her brother's disappearance. On June 1, the day his body was found, she uploaded a reel promoting a mobile bumper sale. Four days later, she promoted a massage parlour. Next day she promoted a beauty parlour in Indore." The account further wrote: 'Now that the news has blown up, she's suddenly posting emotional reels with melodramatic captions and sad background music and gaining traction." I have been watching your reels since your brother went missing and you are using the death of your brother for your social media growth.)" 'Your bhai went missing on May 23. You being sister and a proud Insta Influenza with 373K followers, kept churning out promo reels like nothing happened. On June 1—the day his body was found—you dropped a reel for a mobile sale. Days later, it was massages and makeovers. Now that the internet's paying attention, you are suddenly deep in grief—complete with sad music, tearful captions, and Oscar-worthy expressions. Pretty sure your brother deserved better!" another Instagram user lamented.
