Apple rumored to release 6 different new iPhone models starting next year — here's what's coming
Before summer kicks off in 2027, Apple could have six different iPhone models available for purchase according to a regular leaker on Weibo. The rumor comes from Instant Digital, who posted today (July 22) "there will be 6 new iPhone models to choose from." Their predictions are are right more often than not. Basically, from the usual iPhone 18 launch until the iPhone 18e launches in the early spring, Apple could have its biggest iPhone lineup to date — including the iPhone Fold. Rumored iPhone 18 models (2027) iPhone 18 iPhone 18 Air iPhone 18 Pro iPhone 18 Pro Max iPhone Fold iPhone 18e Strangely, the release schedule could be radically different with earlier reports claiming that Apple might split the release of the iPhone 18. According to a report in The Information back in May, Apple would launch the high-end iPhones first, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and new iPhone Fold. The company would then follow up in the spring with the cheaper three options — the regular iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Air and iPhone 18e. The most anticipated iPhone for next year is easily the iPhone Fold, as it would be Apple's first foldable phone. It's rumored to feature a 5.5-inch cover display, 7.8-inch internal screen and dual 48MP cameras, plus a bigger battery than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Typically, Apple also keeps a couple of older phones for sale after releasing a new generation of iPhones. Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are still on sale alongside the five current iPhone 16 variants. Sign up to get the BEST of Tom's Guide direct to your inbox. iPhone 17 Air battery leak looks like worst case scenario
Samsung made a splash with the Galaxy S25 Edge earlier this year, but Apple's rumored to challenge it for the ultra-thin phone throne in fall with its iPhone 17 Air. Too bad it looks like the iPhone maker is skimping on battery capacity to achieve that sleeker profile. That's according to well-known tipster Instant Digital, who posted this week on Weibo that the iPhone 17 Air battery "does not exceed 3,000mAh," as first spotted by 9to5Mac. That's slightly larger than the 2800mAh battery estimate we heard from another leaker back in May, but it still spells bad news for Apple. For starters, it would be a serious downgrade compared to the iPhone 16's 3,651mAh battery, which lasted up to 22 hours on a single charge in our battery tests. For reference, Samsung managed to fit a 3,900mAh battery cell into the S25 Edge, just a smidge smaller than the 4,000mAh battery in the regular Galaxy S25. That being said, raw specs only tell part of the story. Apple designs its iOS updates with optimization in mind, often managing to wring more battery life than the best Android phones with bigger batteries. Look no further than the iPhone 16 lineup. Two of which — premium iPhone 16 Pro Max and larger iPhone 16 Plus — made our best phone battery life ranking for their surprisingly long charge and considerable boost over their predecessors. Instant Digital added that the iPhone's lower power mode could eke out a bit more battery life, so you might be able to get a full day's worth of moderate use out of the iPhone 17 Air. Notably, Apple's also improving its iPhones' power-saving capabilities with a new adaptive power mode introduced in iOS 26. When the setting's enabled, your phone will use Apple Intelligence to automatically trim its energy use to keep it going longer between charges. So that could make the iPhone 17 Air last even longer. Samsung made quite the impression with the Galaxy S25 Edge earlier this year, which packs all the same Galaxy AI features you'd expect from the phone maker's premium headsets into a ridiculously thin footprint. One of its biggest compromises is its slightly smaller battery than the rest of the Galaxy S25 line, but even at 3,900mAh, that still blows the iPhone 17 Air's rumored sub-3,000mAh capacity out of the water. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. In our Galaxy S25 Edge battery tests, Samsung's super-thin phone lasted 12 hours and 28 minutes on a single charge. That's far below the average of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which goes the distance with 17 hours and 14 minutes running the same tests. Even the standard Galaxy S25 managed to outlast the Edge by almost 3 hours. Whether the thin profile is worth the tradeoff in battery will be a matter of preference for most buyers. Me? I'd rather have a longer-lasting phone than even the thinnest one I can't use without lugging around one of the best portable battery banks as a backup. That could make the iPhone 17 Air a tough sell unless Apple can demonstrate how users can wring a full day's worth of usage out of their iPhone.

Apple iPhone 17 Air Battery: Unwelcome News Revealed In Latest Leak
Apple is thought to be releasing four iPhones this September (read here for the exact release date). Alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be a super-thin model, presumed to be called iPhone 17 Air. But the thin profile has ramifications when it comes to how long the battery will last. Apple is soon to release its latest iPhones and one could be super-thin. Since the new phone is thought to be just 5.5mm thick from front to back (so, even thinner than the recently released Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge), there's not much room for a big battery. Squeezing stuff in to a svelte device like this will be tough — and may be why there's only one rear camera expected on it as sensors and lenses take up space internally as well as outside. iPhone 17 Air: The Bad News A new post on Weibo from regular leaker Instant Digital, picked up by MacRumors, says that the battery capacity will be less than 3,000 mAh. When you compare that to reports that the iPhone 17 Pro Max (expected to be a record-breaking Pro iPhone for thickness and other features) will have a 5,000 mAh battery and you can see why people might be disappointed. After all, a thin, gorgeous design is desirable, but not if it conks out at lunchtime. This report corroborates a previous rumor that the battery will have a lower capacity than most iPhones of recent years. However, there's good news as well. iPhone 17 Air: The Good News The leaker has some comfort: 'Although the battery does not exceed 3000mAh, the whole power saving mode should be able to last for one day,' they say. The power saving mode seems to refer to the Adaptive Power Mode coming with iOS 26, something Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has previously noted, and which should provide a windfall of extra battery life for all iPhone 17 models — and even some current iPhones. Note that Instant Digital is still only predicting 'one day' of battery life. But, after all, nearly everyone charges their iPhone overnight, right?

iPhone 17 Air may pack smaller battery than iPhone 16, but iOS 26 could save the day
Apple's iPhone 17 Air is still a couple of months away, with Cupertino likely to launch the phone in September, in line with its usual timeline. However, the rumour mills are already in full swing, predicting every detail about what could be Apple's thinnest device ever. A new leak from tipster Instant Digital on Weibo suggests that the iPhone 17 Air could have a battery capacity below 3,000mAh. Despite the smaller battery, the phone is expected to achieve a full day of use thanks to a new 'Adaptive Power Mode' on iOS 26. The iPhone 17 Air was also previously rumoured to have a battery capacity of 2,800mAh. If this turns out to be true, it would mark the first time since the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 that Apple has used a sub-3,000mAh battery in an iPhone. Do keep in mind that Instant Digital has a mixed track record with Apple leaks. The tipster correctly predicted the yellow colour option for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, but some of their other reports have missed the mark. Earlier this year, The Information's Wayne Ma reported that the iPhone 17 Air could have 'worse' battery life compared to previous models, due to the device's rumoured ultra-thin 5.5mm design limiting internal battery space. According to the report, Apple's internal testing suggests that only 60 to 70% of users would be able to get through a day without recharging. To address this, Apple is reportedly planning to release a battery case as an optional accessory. Apple last offered a battery case with the iPhone 11 series, followed by the MagSafe Battery Pack for the iPhone 12 lineup. In terms of design, the iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to feature a frame made from 7000-series aluminium alloy, known for its durability and lightweight properties. This choice could add around 30 grams to the total weight, replacing the heavier titanium used in the iPhone 16 Pro models. The 120Hz OLED display and the battery are expected to remain the heaviest components inside the device, each weighing around 35 grams. The handset is tipped to include a single 48MP rear camera, while the front will feature a 24MP selfie camera, underscoring Apple's continued focus on content creators and video call quality. Face ID is also expected for secure biometric authentication. Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Air will reportedly be powered by Apple's upcoming A19 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM, aligning its performance with the iPhone 16 Plus. The device is also expected to feature a glass rear panel and support wireless charging via Apple's MagSafe technology.

Latest iPhone 17 Air leak said just what we didn't want to hear
Apple's rumored iPhone 17 Air, which will replace the Plus model in the lineup, will barely last a whole day on a single charge, per a new rumor. Tipster Instant Digital claims that the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with a battery with less than 3,000mAh capacity. They didn't reveal the exact capacity but did hint that with iOS 26's Adaptive Power, the phone will probably make it to the end of the day. A famous leaker says that the iPhone 17 Air's battery will hover below the 3,000mAh mark. Apple says that in this mode, an iPhone will make small performance adjustments to make the battery last longer, such as lowering screen brightness and letting some tasks take to say, most people wouldn't want to have this mode all the time, and the only way to make it to the end of the day without the phone dying would be to plug the phone in or use the rumored battery case accessory to extend capacity. At just 5.5mm thick, the iPhone 17 Air is going to be the thinnest model in the lineup, which is why it doesn't have enough space for a larger battery. An earlier rumor had said that the battery capacity would be 2,800mAh. Though the phone will be thin, it will not be small, with its display expected to come in at 6.6 inches. This means that it will only be next to the iPhone 17 Pro Max in screen size, which is expected to retain the 6.9-inch screen of its predecessor and get a bigger 5,000mAh the screen will be 120Hz, and a high refresh rate is usually a battery hog. One earlier report hinted that around 60 to 70 percent of iPhone 17 Air owners should be able to go all day without plugging in the phone. Another sounded less worrying, claimeing the battery life will be comparable to current iPhones. Apple has allegedly redesigned display and silicon components and tweaked software to make the device more energy efficient. The phone will likely feature an in-house Wi-Fi chip and the home-brewed C1 modem. which should result in efficiency improvements. As for the other rumored features, the iPhone 17 Air will allegedly be the only model in the lineup with a titanium frame and will have a rectangular camera bar to house a lone 48MP rear camera. The device will be fueled by the 3nm A19 chip, which will be paired with 12GB of RAM.
