iPhone 17e in the works? 4 upgrades we hope Apple makes over iPhone 16e

Apple, earlier this year, finally launched an updated, affordable iPhone model in the form of the iPhone 16e, which replaces the SE moniker. The model was previously tipped to be called iPhone SE4, but Apple ultimately went with the iPhone 16e branding. Now, the model serves as the cheapest phone Apple is currently producing, coming in at ₹ 59,900. The phone has proven to be a popular model for Apple, especially in countries like Japan and India. Having said that, new rumours have come out that paint a picture for the iPhone 17e, which is rumoured to be the next-generation model in the same category. This comes from tipster Instant Digital on Weibo, who says that the iPhone 17e is almost ready for the trial production stage, and the production line is being planned too. So, this could be good news for someone waiting it out for the next-generation model and who doesn't want to get on with the iPhone 16e. Having said that, here's what we want from the next-generation iPhone 17e and things Apple could improve upon. While it is understood that the E-series is Apple's budget line-up, or more affordable line-up, and it would not want the model to cannibalise its main flagship sales, the Dynamic Island has been around for a long time now, having debuted with the iPhone 14 Pro. And now that we are going to see iPhone 17-series models soon, it makes sense for the company to finally bring the premium Dynamic Island to its E-series as well. After all, the E-series is not entirely all that cheap, coming in at ₹ 59,900 in India. A big miss on the camera experience of the iPhone 16e was the loss of Cinematic Mode. Yes, it has a single lens, and that could be the reason why, but we have seen companies implement Cinematic Mode well, even with camera setups that are not as capable as the iPhone 16e's. If Apple wants, it can integrate Cinematic Mode somehow. So, this is a major feature which the iPhone 17e could eventually offer. Apple could bring more fun colours to the iPhone 17e. With the iPhone 16e, Apple only debuted two colours: black and white. Notably, for a phone of this category, having more colours would make sense. So, Apple should bring more fun colours to the line-up, perhaps reviving the Product Red colourway or something like yellow, purple, or blue, as it does with the iPhone 16. Apple should consider bringing a slightly larger screen size to the iPhone 17e. The iPhone 16e comes with a 6.1-inch display, and for some, this may be too small. So, Apple should try a good middle ground and opt for a 6.3-inch panel, similar to that of the iPhone 16 Pro. It would make for an ideal size that is not too big and not too small.

iPhone 17e is almost in the trial production stage, tipster says. Here's what we expect

Apple earlier this year launched the iPhone 16e, which serves as the company's affordable iPhone. It is not a particularly budget phone, coming in at ₹59,900 in India, but it still serves as the cheapest iPhone Apple currently has in its line-up. Having said that, Apple was also rumoured to be working on the iPhone 17e. It will, of course, be the successor to the iPhone 16e. Recent reports suggest that Apple may be close to finalising the production. Here is what we know so far regarding the iPhone 17e. Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17e sometime in the first half of 2026, according to reports. This information comes via tipster Instant Digital on Weibo. The tipster says that the iPhone 17e is almost ready for the trial production stage and that the setup of the iPhone 17e production line is being planned, too. Regarding changes to expect with the iPhone 17e, considering the 'e' line-up is Apple's affordable iPhone range, it makes sense for Apple to launch the iPhone 17e devoid of any flagship features which might cannibalise the mainline iPhones, such as the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro. We would like Apple to include features like Dynamic Island; if Dynamic Island were present on the 'e' models, it would make for a much more premium experience considering the price at which it retails. So, Dynamic Island is a feature Apple could certainly include. Apart from this, Apple could bring spec refreshes to the iPhone 17e, as has been the tradition. Therefore, it would not be out of the ordinary to expect the iPhone 17e to ship with an Apple A19 chipset. It also remains to be seen if Apple will go with its own in-house modem for the iPhone 17e, because the iPhone 16e reportedly debuted the Apple C1 modem, which is its own in-house 5G modem. Looking beyond the iPhone 17e, it remains to be seen what the launch schedule will be like. The iPhone line-up could be undergoing a major overhaul, with Apple expected to launch the iPhone 18e and iPhone 18 in Spring 2027, compared to a Fall 2026 launch for the mainline iPhone 18 devices. Start saving – foldable iPhone price rumor suggests it could cost more than a MacBook Pro

The foldable iPhone could cost between $2,100 and $2,500 That would make it one of Apple's most expensive devices However, it might lack Face ID There's never been any doubt that Apple's anticipated foldable iPhone will be a very expensive device, and now new rumors suggest that it could be one of Apple's priciest-ever products. According to leaker Instant Digital (via MacRumors) the foldable iPhone will start at between $2,100 and $2,500 (that's roughly £1,580-£1,730 / AU$3,310-AU$3,625, though we wouldn't expect those conversions to be accurate). That would make it far more expensive than Apple's current top phone, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max starting at $1,199 / £1,199 / AU$2,149, and would even make it more expensive than the $1,599 / £2,149 / AU$3,199 starting price of a MacBook Pro 14-inch M4 (2024). It would also mean the foldable iPhone would exceed the price of rivals, with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 for example starting at $1,899.99 / £1,799 / AU$2,749. So this could be a seriously expensive device, especially as that rumored price is apparently just the starting price. And while we'd take this rumor with a pinch of salt, others agree that it will cost a lot. We've heard previously that the foldable iPhone's price could be as low as $2,000 (around £1,540 / AU$3,175) or as high as $2,500 (roughly £1,730 / AU$3,625). So whatever the case, a $2,000-plus price is looking likely. That's perhaps unsurprising though. After all, this being an Apple device (albeit one that Apple has yet to confirm the existence of) it's always been expected that it'll come in at a higher price than other foldable phones. But despite its likely high price, the foldable iPhone might lack some tech we've come to expect from Apple's handsets, with leaker Digital Chat Station (via MacRumors) claiming that it won't have Face ID – though apparently it will have an under-display camera, which would be a first for Apple. If this is correct, then it's likely that the phone will instead have Touch ID in a side button, as we've heard in a previous leak. That's not the end of the world, but it might leave some feeling shortchanged if it does indeed come with a $2,000-plus price tag. It'll likely be some time before we learn the actual price of Apple's first foldable, with reports suggesting it's unlikely to land before 2026 at the earliest. iPhone 17 Pro: latest rumors, tips and everything we've heard so far Best iPhone: which Apple smartphone reigns supreme? iPhone 17 Air: 5 key rumored features

iPhone Fold tipped to cost over $2,000 — and that would be a huge mistake

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A recent leak has stated that Apple could make it so that the foldable iPhone could cost more than the best MacBooks. The rumor comes from leaker Instant Digital, who posted about the possible price change on the Chinese social media site Weibo. According to the post, the iPhone could cost between $2,100 and $2,300 at release. For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 costs $1,899 at its lowest, while the 1TB version costs $2,259. However, Apple is in for a challenge if it wants to break into the foldable market with that price point. It's worth noting that the foldable market isn't what it used to be; there are many options out there. For instance, most of the best foldable phones that we've seen, like the OnePlus Open ($1,699) and Oppo Find N5 (around $1,800), can be bought for much more affordable prices. If Apple wants to sell the foldable at that cost, then it would need to pull out some impressive hardware. Unfortunately, at least to my eyes, none of the rumored specs appear to show that. The first thing anyone looks for when it comes to a foldable phone is the size of the display. Now, we've heard several different rumors about the foldable iPhone's screen, but none of them scream "spend 2K on me!" The first rumor we've heard is that the foldable iPhone features a 7.8-inch primary display when unfolded and a 5.5-inch cover display when folded. That means the inner display will roughly be the same as the cheaper OnePlus Open (which again costs $1,699.) Now, there are rumors that Apple has solved the crease issue seen in other foldables, but even that isn't enough. Other rumors have indicated that the phone could have a 7.74-inch inner display offering a 2,713 x 1,920p resolution. Meanwhile, the 5.49-inch outer display will have a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422p. That would put it closer to the Oppo Find N5. Alternatively, we've seen a rumor that the screen could be as large as 12 inches when unfolded. Now, that's certainly impressive and would be visually distinct, while at the same time being completely impractical. Here's the thing: you still need a phone to be a phone, and while the phone is tipped to be the thinnest yet, there's no easy way to fit that in your pocket. Plus, the idea of opening a 12-inch screen on public transport is just... horrifying. Next, we have the cameras, which are hinted to include a main lens, an ultrawide lens and possibly an under-display selfie camera. It isn't the most impressive lineup, although to be fair, we don't know much about their specs. At the end of the day, however, I wouldn't buy a foldable phone for the camera, usually because they often feel more lacking than the more standard devices. When it comes to the inner hardware, we've heard that the foldable iPhone could feature a 5,000mAh battery. That's a pretty decent battery, but the big news is that Apple has reportedly upgraded the screen's integrated driver circuit from a 28nm process to a smaller 16nm one. This would, in theory, allow the same performance while minimizing the power draw. While impressive, it isn't "over $2,000" impressive. It would help if we knew more about the chips in the phone, but so far, we can only guess that it will at least feature the same chips as the iPhone 17 series. One possible option for Apple is to push Apple Intelligence, including new features exclusive to the foldable iPhone. However, I say could because Apple hasn't exactly set the world on fire with Apple Intelligence. This is especially true when you realize we still don't have all the promised features for Apple's AI. For instance, look at the delayed release of Siri 2.0. Imagine paying 2K for a phone where the features are always "coming soon." The biggest problem Apple is going to face is that when it eventually does release, which is rumored to be happening around Q2 of 2026 at the earliest, the competition will be even steeper. At that point, we expect that we'll have seen the release of the OnePlus Open 2, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and possibly the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. All of these developers have more experience with foldables, and Apple will struggle to find a place. So, how likely is this price? Well, that's hard to say at this point, but the leaker has been right before. As such, it's worth taking note of, but it is still very early days. With that said, I wouldn't buy a $2,000 foldable iPhone based on what we know now, but Apple could surprise me. So let me know, would you pay 2K for a foldable iPhone, or is that just too much for you to even consider being worth it? iPhone Fold just tipped for 2 big advantages over Galaxy Z Fold 7

Apple's first-ever foldable iPhone may finally arrive next year, if many leaks and analysts are to be believed. And now, the Apple whisperer, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, claims that the newest folding device will have a few key upgrades over rivals. He primarily focused on the folding mechanism. Over the years, it's been rumored that Apple's struggle to release a folding phone is due to the crease in the screen. Gurman says that next year's phone will feature a "nearly invisible" crease when the iPhone is in the open position. On the other side of the device, it should have a "much higher-quality hinge." Earlier this year, tipster Instant Digital wrote that Apple will offer a revolutionary liquid metal hinge that utilizes "amorphous alloy (metallic glass)." Allegedly, this alloy will be more durable and able to get flatter. In comparison, Samsung's flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold series, has improved yearly but hasn't hidden the crease. Still, this year's Galaxy Z Fold 7 should be a significant upgrade compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Reportedly, Samsung Display has managed to eliminate the crease, but it's unclear if that will appear in this year's model or next year's foldables. According to Gurman, the foldable iPhone will be pitched as a "new high-end model, rather than a niche alternative design." This aligns with reports from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that it could release next year or in 2027 with a price between $2,000 and $2,500. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Kuo also shared that the folding iPhone should feature a 7.8-inch inner display with a 5.5-inch cover screen, two cameras, a front camera, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID. He claimed the handset will be 4.5mm when unfolded and between 9mm and 9.5mm when folded. Very similar to specs to what the Z Fold 7 should feature this year. Gurman did add a caveat that sources he spoke with said that development could fall behind, which suggests that we might not see the phone until 2027.
