Graham Hume's return helps reignite Waringstown's League title challenge against Instonians
The Irish international has been suffering with an elbow injury but was back to his best, dismissing Neil Rock, Cade Carmichael and Andrew White in his first two overs to leave the Shaw's Bridge side reeling on 13 for three. Shane Dadswell cleared the ropes three times in an enterprising 35, but two wickets apiece for Daniel van der Merwe, James Cameron-Dow and Greg Thompson saw Instonians bundled out for just 81. Sam (41) and Morgan Topping (19) knocked off 59 of those in an opening partnership to all but seal the win, with Sam top-scoring with 41 (4 fours, 1 six). Muckamore's replacement professional Madhav Kaushik hit the ground running with a match-winning half century at North Down to give the Moylena side their first points of the campaign. The Indian cleared the ropes four times and hit four fours in a 25-ball 54 to help Muckamore to 151 for seven – runs too for Jamie Magowan (25) and Jason van der Merwe (20) – while Ally Shields claimed four wickets. In a tense chase, Ryan Haire's 31 gave the Comber side a shout, but his dismissal with 22 needed off two overs proved decisive as Muckamore won by 17 runs. Templepatrick are still searching for their first win of the season after they crashed to a 70-run loss at CSNI. Marc Ellison hit six fours and two sixes in a top-score of 58 from 52 balls as the Stormont side made 156 for five, with 26 apiece for Sean Davey and Adam Leckey. Charlie Swart top-scored with 41 (five fours, one six), but received little support as they were bowled out for 86. Teenagers Harry Dyer (4-7), Finn Lutton (3-17), and Seb Yeates (2-5) doing the damage. Meanwhile, in the NW T20 Cup, the four group winners who will play in the Faughan Valley Cup Semi-Finals have been decided. Newbuildings captain Ross Hunter took five wickets, including a hat-trick as his side beat Bready, while Donemana finished unbeaten after a 20-run win over Killyclooney that saw the McClintock twins each hitting five sixes and Anuj Jotin taking four wickets. Andy Millar's half century ensured Eglinton progressed, while holders Brigade got the 11 runs they needed from the final over – boundaries for Josh Wilson and James Smallwoods breaking Coleraine hearts in a thrilling two-wicket win off the penultimate ball.

Neil Whitworth leads the way as Lisburn survive CIYMS scare to net Challenge Cup Quarter-Final place
Jack Beattie top-scored with 43 and Carson McCullough made 32 as the Belmont side posted 183 for nine – three wickets apiece for Josh Manley and Ross Adair. The chase started poorly for the hosts as they slumped to 54 for four, but Whitworth's unbeaten 54 guided them home in the penultimate over, sharing a vital stand of 52 in 46 balls with Nigel Jones (22). Meanwhile, in the Gallagher Women's Challenge Cup, Jemma Gillan scored a century to help her CSNI side to an emphatic 179-run win over Instonians. The Stormont side piled on 262 for six with Gillan hitting 14 boundaries in her 80-ball innings, sharing a record third wicket partnership of 167 in 19 overs with Rachael Thomas (35). Anna Ellerby with three wickets was the pick of the Shaws Bridge side. Instonians in reply were bowled out for just 83 – four wickets for Emily Carville. Holders Waringstown were also convincing winners at North Down. The Comber side were bowled out for 111, with skipper Amy Boyd top-scoring with 20. The Waringstown bowling unit stuck to their task well, with two wickets apiece for Naomi Matthews, Cara Murray, Rachel Harrison and Penny Speer. Amy Caulfield (22) got the chase off to a fast start, and a second wicket partnership of 70 between Player of the Match Sophie Hinds and Charlotte Lyons (23) took them to the brink of victory. Hinds hit eight boundaries in a quickfire unbeaten 52 from just 38 balls to secure an eight-wicket win. In-form Holywood were also in top form as they brushed aside Muckamore to win by nine wickets. Alex Atkinson claimed three wickets for just two runs to collect the Player of the Match award as the Moylena side could only muster 83. There were two wickets apiece also for Tasmin Hope and Madison Landsman. South African Landsman – who has also represented the Netherlands – then clubbed eight fours and a maximum in a 27-ball undefeated 51, adding 68 for the second wicket with Eva Cupitt (11 not out).

Lisburn and Instonians remain unbeaten after May Day fixtures
Faiz Fazal was the hero at Wallace Park as with 12 needed off the last two balls, the Indian professional showed why he is regarded as the best batsman in the country by clearing the ropes twice to seal a dramatic one-wicket win. His unbeaten 145 included eight fours and sixes as the Wallace Park side chased down CSNI's 256 for 6, with James Hunter also making 51. The result was tough on teenager Harry Dyer, who scored a half century along with Marc Ellison, and took two for 22 in his ten-overs spell. Instonians had Cian Robertson to thank for their two-wickets win at North Down. Needing nine off the final over, Robertson's unbeaten 62 got them over the line off the penultimate ball chasing 225. Kian Hilton top-scored for the Comber side with 69. It was a tale of three South African centuries at Ballygomartin Road, with Woodvale coming out on top against Templepatrick. Neil Brand hit 18 fours and three sixes on his way to 144 in the newly promoted side's 313 for 6. That proved little trouble as Ruhan Pretorius and Eddie Moore shared a third wicket partnership of 234 in 31 overs. Pretorius hit 14 fours and 6 sixes in a top score of 132, while Test player Moore's debut saw him clear the ropes nine times in an unbeaten 128. There was a shock at The Lawn where defending champions Waringstown lost to CIYMS by 12 runs. Tom Mayes' six-wicket haul looked to have them in control as the Belmont side were bowled out for 187 – Chris Dougherty making 61. However, despite opener Adam Dennison's 54 CIYMS earned the points as former Irish international leg-spinner Jacob Mulder picked up a five wickets haul, with two apiece for Herman Rolfes and teenage spinner Alex Armstrong. There was no shortage of drama at Moylena either, where Muckamore survived a late surge by Cliftonville Academy to win by 20 runs. Chasing 246, the home side looked well in control as CA slumped to 137 for 7. However, John Glass and Adam Kelso added 85 for the eighth wicket, before they lost three wickets in six balls to fall short. North Down begin campaign with back to back victories
Copeland was 87 not out when Peter Davison hit the winning runs as North Down passed CIYMS' total of 219 for nine with three wickets and 20 balls to spare. CI were favourites when North Down lost their sixth wicket in the 30th over but Ireland bowler Craig Young showed his prowess with the bat, to hit 40 in a seventh wicket stand of 82 with Copeland who was also one of four North Down bowlers to take four wickets. Lisburn lead the fledgling table on run-rate after winning the first ever Premier League game at Templepatrick by eight wickets. Last year's Section One champions, playing without an overseas professional, put up a respectable 190 for nine, with captain Ross Bryans scoring 60. But Ross Adair, on his Lisburn debut, took full advantage of two lives and an inexperienced attack to thump 93 off 71 balls with 13 fours and four sixes. 'It's clear to see what Ross can do with the bat. He was pretty destructive in the first 10 overs and then slowed it down, certainly the way he usually plays, very mature. But he was brilliant,' said his skipper Neil Whitworth, who hit the winning boundary. 'But I thought Templepatrick batted really well, they frustrated us and ran a lot of good twos which caught us by surprise a little bit so it was a good cricket match in the end.' Instonians are the other team to have won their first two games, in the space of 24 hours. Rob McKinley top scored with 88 in their exciting nine runs victory over Cliftonville Academy yesterday but the real story of the weekend came on Friday night when Neil Rock hit 173 from just 64 balls in their rearranged 20-over game against Civil Service North. Rock's innings, which included 11 fours and 16 sixes, in his team's 257 for six, is the highest by Instonians player in the Premier League and the 10th highest since the competition started in 2006, with all the other innings, of course, being played in 50-over cricket. Only Strabane's Aaron Gillespie, who scored 198 not out against Bonds Glen in 2022 has scored more in a 20-over club game in Ireland. In reply to Instonians 317 for nine yesterday, Abhishek Raut hit 103 and Jared Wilson followed up his five-wicket haul with 93 from 60 balls (five fours, nine sixes) but Andrew White's two wickets in the 49th over proved decisive. The CSN bowlers bounced back from their mauling at Shaw's Bridge to bowl out last year's runners-up Woodvale for 91. James West took four wickets and then hit 41 not out in a nine-wicket win. Defending champions Waringstown, after their game at Woodvale was postponed last week, made a winning start with a 142 runs victory over Muckamore, almost entirely due to a remarkable career best from Tom Mayes who hit 137 who rescued the Villagers from 61 for six. He shared a stand of 180 with professional Daniel van der Merwe (76) in a total of 294 for eight. Ardmore, Coleraine and Donemana lead the way in the North West Premiership with two wins out of two. But it was Newbuildings professional Peat Salmon who scored the only century of the day, his 109 off 66 balls (12 fours six sixes) not enough to prevent a 50 runs defeat by Donemana who had posted 324 for seven.
