India's LIC posts quarterly profit rise as higher premiums help
BENGALURU, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Life Insurance Corporation of India ( opens new tab reported a 5% rise in first-quarter profit on Thursday, helped by higher premium from renewed policies. Profit after tax for the country's biggest insurer rose to 109.87 billion rupees ($1.26 billion) for the quarter ended June 30 from 104.61 billion rupees a year earlier. ($1 = 87.5240 Indian rupees)

Health and social care bursary scheme opens
A health and social care bursary which has been running for more than 30 years has opened to new applications. Insurance Corporation, which runs the scheme, said it aimed to recognise the dedication of health and social care workers in Guernsey. It said the project deemed most beneficial to the Bailiwick community would be awarded £3,000, with £1,500 for a runner-up. The bursary champions a wide variety of projects tackling topics such as alcohol abuse, bereavement, elderly falls, eating disorders, mental health, diabetes, memory care, and midwifery, it said. Mark Marshall, managing director of Insurance Corporation, said: "For 34 years, we've been astounded by the quality and diversity of the projects submitted. "The knowledge and talent within HSC are incredible, and it's inspiring to see such innovative ideas from frontline workers." Michelle Steele, HR and PR executive, said: "We are incredibly proud of our long-standing contribution to the local community. "Each year we're impressed by the creativity and compassion that really shines through. "It's amazing to see these projects come to life and make a real difference in the Bailiwick - and in some cases, even further afield."
