India, meanwhile, said it had neutralised an air defence system in Lahore. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD But what happened? What do experts say? Let's take a closer look What is India saying? Locals in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer and Bikaner also witnessed missiles in the sky and heard shelling. Missiles streak across the city sky, in Jammu on Thursday. PTI India said it had neutralised all the missiles and drones from Pakistan. This development came hours after India said it had neutralised a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore. 'Today morning Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan,' the ministry's statement read, as per Al Jazeera. 'It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Any attack on military targets in India will invite a suitable response,' India added as per The Guardian. India hours earlier said Islamabad had 'attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India' but was foiled. India said Pakistan had tried to target Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarla and Bhuj. 'On the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These drones, also known as loitering munitions, are made by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). 'Last night, India showed another act of aggression by sending drones to multiple locations,' Chaudhry said as per Hindustan Times. 'One managed to engage in a military target near Lahore.' As per Al Jazeera, Chaudhry accused India of 'naked aggression' and a 'serious provocation.' Pakistani investigators examine a cordoned off site where Pakistan's air defense system shot down a suspected Indian drone in Karachi. AP 'It appears that India has apparently lost the plot and, rather than going on a path of rationality, is further escalating in a highly charged environment. Pakistan Armed Forces remain fully vigilant to any type of threat,' Chaudhry added. As per The Guardian, Pakistan also denied it had launched attacks on India early on Thursday. A military spokesperson called such claims 'phantom strikes'. Speaking to the the newspaper, a senior Pakistani security official said, 'The offensive response will come now.' What do experts say? BBC pointed out that this is the first time that the two nations have conducted large-scale drone attacks on each other. The outlets said things have taken a dangerous turn and the fact that Indian drones managed to reach that far into Pakistan would have come as an unpleasant surprise to Islamabad. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Probably, using the drones may be less expensive than using exorbitantly priced state-of-the-art fighter jets. If the drone warfare continues, then it's likely to cause further disruptions and anger on both sides,' the outlet noted.

And again, as we've been saying since yesterday, any further action by Pakistan, some of which we are seeing today is nothing but escalation by Pakistan now, once again, and will be responded to and is being responded to appropriately,' he said. Misri also said that India's intention has not been to escalate matters. 'We are only responding to the original escalations, as I said. And our response has been targeted, precise, controlled and measured. No military targets have been selected. Only terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan has been hit,' he said. Army worked with full force to neutralise terror camps: Shiv Sena's Shrikant Shinde on Op Sindoor
New Delhi [India], May 8 (ANI): Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde on Thursday lauded the Indian armed forces for Operation Sindoor, stating that they have worked with full force to neutralise the terror camps in Pakistan. 'The Army has taken a commendable step. They have worked with full force to neutralise these camps. I think that every person is standing with the Army with full force today,' Shinde told ANI while speaking about the posters put up by Shiv Sena in Mumbai praising the Indian Army for Operation Sindoor. Speaking on the all-party meeting, the Shiv Sena MP stated that the Union Defence Minister in the meeting has conveyed that more than 100 terrorists were killed in the precision strikes. 'The Defence minister informed us today that more than 100 terrorists were killed when we attacked terrorist camps...' Shinde said. An all-party meeting was convened today to brief political leaders on the ongoing tensions with Pakistan following India's military operation in the early hours of Wednesday, which targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The Centre called the all-party meeting over Operation Sindoor at the Parliament Annexe building. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed political parties on India's action on cross-border terrorism. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister JP Nadda, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi are among several other leaders who participated in the meeting. During the all-party meeting, the Congress party extended its full support to the central government. However, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's absence from the meeting, asking if the PM thought he was above the Parliament. Meanwhile, after India executed Operation Sindoor, in which nine terror sites deep inside Pakistan were destroyed, Pakistan attempted to engage a number of military targets on the night of May 7. The military targets were engaged in Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. Earlier, sources said that over 100 terrorists were eliminated with a series of precision strikes launched in the early hours of Wednesday. The operation, aimed at avenging the Pahalgam terror attack, remains underway, making it challenging to provide an exact casualty count of the terrorists at this stage, sources further stated. The strikes, executed by the Indian Armed Forces, targeted nine key terror camps in Pakistan linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen. Four of the targets were located inside Pakistan and the remaining five were situated in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The security forces targeted four terrorist camps in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya. The five other locations in PoJK on India's target were Markaz Ahle Hadith Barnala in Bhimber, Markaz Abbas and Maskar Raheel Shahid in Kotli, Shawai Nallah Camp, and Markaz Syedna Bilal, in Muzaffarabad. Meanwhile, Pakistan has increased the intensity of its unprovoked firing across the Line of Control using mortars and heavy calibre artillery in areas in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. Sixteen innocent lives have been lost, including three women and five children, due to Pakistani firing. India was compelled to respond to bring Mortar and Artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt. Blackout in Jammu after explosions heard near airport, counter-measures on
A total blackout was observed in Jammu city on Thursday after two powerful explosions were heard near the airport, news agency PTI reported. The report further added that the security forces had detected Pakistani drones near the airport. Officials have said counter-measures have been initiated. The development comes hours after India said it had neutralised an air defence system in Lahore in a measured military response to Pakistan's attempted drone and missile attacks on multiple Indian military installations across 15 cities the previous night. India said Pakistan attempted to engage military sites in northern and western India — including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Bhuj — between May 7 and 8. The Pakistani offensive, involving drones and missiles, was thwarted by India's Integrated Counter UAS Grid and air defence systems, an official statement read. Earlier, in the wee hours of Wednesday, India had launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK). Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Thursday reiterated that India's counterterror operation was a targeted and measured response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which killed 26 people. He added the operation was aimed solely at terrorist infrastructure and did not target civilians or military installations in Pakistan. 'There is a lot of disinformation directed at us from across the border. The first point to keep in mind is that the Pahalgam attack is the original escalation. The Indian armed forces have responded accordingly,' Misri said. Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar warned Pakistan against attempting any military attacks on India, saying it would be met with a "very, very firm response".
