Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Training Command, laid the foundation stone for a new state-of-the-art multi-storey hospital complex at Command Hospital Air Force (CHAF), Bengaluru, on Tuesday.
According to the Defence Ministry, the new complex with an 800-bed facility will have 16 modular operation theatres, modern ICUs, and high-end diagnostic services, including advanced imaging and laboratory facilities with a pneumatic chute system.
The facility is aimed at easing the workload at CHAF, which handles an OPD of nearly 3 lakh patients, with 21,000 admissions yearly at the 157-year-old structure, and also to incorporate rapid advancements in healthcare technology, authorities said.
The event was also attended by Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, Director General Medical Services (Air)from Air HQ.
The complex will be equipped with a smart building management system and operations room that will monitor efficient lighting, security, and energy consumption, and ensure effective management of infrastructure and smart climate control, thereby ensuring seamless delivery of healthcare services, the Defence Ministry stated.
Intelligent design components of the hospital, like Out Patient Departments (OPDs) on lower floors, spacious lifts and escalators, will offer convenient access for patients, including the differently-abled. The project will make use of digitisation and an Integrated Hospital Information System to reduce patient waiting time.
In alignment with national green building standards, the facility will adhere to GRIHA 3-star norms, incorporating rainwater harvesting systems, solar power generation of one megawatt capacity and a high-capacity effluent treatment plant contributing towards a sustainable and environment-friendly ecosystem.
Besides, adding a great deal of impetus to quality healthcare delivery to serving personnel and families of the Armed Forces, including veterans, the new hospital complex will also serve as a Centre of Excellence for medical training and research within the Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry said.
