Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Training Command, laid the foundation stone for a new state-of-the-art multi-storey hospital complex at Command Hospital Air Force (CHAF), Bengaluru, on Tuesday.
According to the Defence Ministry, the new complex with an 800-bed facility will have 16 modular operation theatres, modern ICUs, and high-end diagnostic services, including advanced imaging and laboratory facilities with a pneumatic chute system.
The facility is aimed at easing the workload at CHAF, which handles an OPD of nearly 3 lakh patients, with 21,000 admissions yearly at the 157-year-old structure, and also to incorporate rapid advancements in healthcare technology, authorities said.
The event was also attended by Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, Director General Medical Services (Air)from Air HQ.
The complex will be equipped with a smart building management system and operations room that will monitor efficient lighting, security, and energy consumption, and ensure effective management of infrastructure and smart climate control, thereby ensuring seamless delivery of healthcare services, the Defence Ministry stated.
Intelligent design components of the hospital, like Out Patient Departments (OPDs) on lower floors, spacious lifts and escalators, will offer convenient access for patients, including the differently-abled. The project will make use of digitisation and an Integrated Hospital Information System to reduce patient waiting time.
In alignment with national green building standards, the facility will adhere to GRIHA 3-star norms, incorporating rainwater harvesting systems, solar power generation of one megawatt capacity and a high-capacity effluent treatment plant contributing towards a sustainable and environment-friendly ecosystem.
Besides, adding a great deal of impetus to quality healthcare delivery to serving personnel and families of the Armed Forces, including veterans, the new hospital complex will also serve as a Centre of Excellence for medical training and research within the Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry said.

Indian forces acted like surgeons during Operation Sindoor: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Indian armed forces for their precision and discipline during Operation Sindoor, likening their actions to those of skilled surgeons targeting the root of terrorism across the border. Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of KN Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, Singh said, 'Our forces acted just like expert doctors or surgeons. A surgeon uses his instruments precisely where the disease lies, and the Indian forces have done the same, striking at the root of terrorism with unmatched precision.' This was the Defence Minister's first public appearance since Operation Sindoor on 7 May, which targeted multiple terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Drawing a parallel between the armed forces and medical professionals, Singh said both play vital roles in safeguarding the nation. 'Both undergo rigorous training, operate under intense pressure, and must make swift, critical decisions during emergencies. This similarity was seen during Operation Sindoor, just as the commitment of doctors was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic,' he said. Referring to Pakistan's response, Singh noted, 'As is typical, Pakistan did not accept defeat easily and attempted retaliatory attacks on Indian soil. They targeted civilians and even religious places such as temples, gurdwaras, and churches. But our forces gave a fitting response.' He emphasised that India's counter-strikes were carefully executed to avoid civilian harm. 'Our soldiers ensured that while punishing the perpetrators, innocent lives were not affected,' he added. Singh also thanked the people of his constituency, Lucknow, for their support. 'When I accepted the invitation for this event last month, I wasn't sure I could attend due to the evolving situation. But with Operation Sindoor concluded successfully, I am here to thank and admire both our armed forces and the resilient spirit of the people,' he said. He concluded, 'You (doctors) treat patients, but we in the Defence Ministry, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, treat the disease of terrorism beyond our borders. The success of Operation Sindoor is proof of that commitment.'

Indo-Pak conflict: J'Khand suspends leaves of govt doctors

All doctors have been instructed to be present at their workplaces, and if needed, they will be sent to border areas to provide their services, Ansari said. 'The Health Department is on high alert and we have suspended all leaves of government doctors with immediate effect in order to deal with any emergency situation arising out of the present conflict,' Health Minister Irfan Ansari told reporters. Ranchi, May 9 (PTI) The Jharkhand government on Friday cancelled the leaves of all government doctors in the state in the wake of the ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan. 'The Health Department is fully prepared to deal with any emergency, and all hospitals in the state have been put on high alert,' he added. Special arrangements have been made near army cantonment areas, he said. Tensions have escalated between the two neighbouring countries after Indian armed forces on Wednesday carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam. According to the Defence Ministry, Pakistan sent 300-400 drones in 36 locations from Leh to Sir Creek on Thursday night to target India's military installations. Operation Sindoor: Orange alert issued, military hospitals in Pune step up vigilance

Military hospitals in Pune have stepped up vigilance and are taking measures to address a developing or a potential critical situation after an Orange alert – as per which authorities have to 'Be Prepared' – was issued in the wake of Operation Sindoor on Wednesday. Security has been augmented around the premises of the three top Armed Forces hospitals, besides increasing surveillance and monitoring personnel and patients. Informed sources said that the transition has been smooth, thanks to the implementation of a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Strict security measures and thorough assessments of the premises have been enforced, with authorities verifying even the identity cards of personnel in uniform. Disaster drills are being conducted both during the day and at night to ensure preparedness. Pune is home to three top Armed Forces hospitals: Command Hospital, Southern Command; Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences; and Military Hospital, Kirkee. These are large, well-equipped hospitals providing a wide range of medical services. The Artificial Limb Centre is also a premier tri-services institution of the Armed Forces and was set up to provide prosthetic limbs to soldiers injured in combat. The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), also located in Pune, is a premier medical institute and provides training to graduate, post-graduate, and post-doctoral medical and nursing students. An Orange alert indicates a high likelihood of a significant security threat or disaster, though not yet at a critical level. It triggers heightened security protocols and proactive emergency response preparations. As part of these measures, random security checks are conducted across the hospital premises. The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) clearly outlines the duties of each staff member, detailing responsibilities across departments such as first aid, MRI, and other units. In the event of a surge in casualties, the SOP also includes a comprehensive crisis bed expansion management plan to accommodate increased patient load. As part of the preparedness measures, doctors are expected to be available on call at all times. The military hospital authorities also coordinate with civic agencies and ensure that there is adequate stock of medical supplies. ICU facilities are maintained to manage serious cases effectively, according to sources. IMA reaffirms readiness to provide healthcare support Dr Dilip Bhanushali, national president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), told The Indian Express that 4 lakh members of the association, across 1,800 local branches and 32 state branches in the country, have extended full solidarity with the Centre on Operation Sindoor. 'In this critical hour, the entire medical fraternity at IMA has reaffirmed the readiness to serve the country. We are fully prepared to provide all necessary healthcare services. Our members are committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with our Armed forces, government agencies to ensure the health and safety of the nation,' Dr Bhanushali said.
