PHOTO: JALAL QURESHI/EXPRESS The Cambridge International Examination (CIE) and the British Council have cancelled Cambridge O Level, IGCSE and International AS & A Level exams scheduled for today (Friday) in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur cities of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Islamabad and Punjab province. In a statement issued on Thursday it said the difficult decision was taken in consultation with authorities after reviewing the current security situation. "Our priority is to support the safety of students and staff, and help students progress with their education," it said. It said that exams scheduled to take place elsewhere in Pakistan on Friday, May 9 will go ahead as planned if the security situation remains unchanged. "We will keep everyone updated if there are any changes." "Where exams are cancelled, we use our expertise and well-established processes to make sure we can award fair grades so that students can progress," the statement added. It urged the concerned individuals to keep following and checking the Cambridge and British Council Pakistan official pages only for any official updates. "If you have any questions, please contact your school, or British Council Customer Services if you are a private candidate," it added.

The suspension affects students sitting for O Level, IGCSE, and International AS & A Level exams in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Islamabad Capital Territory, and Punjab province. The decision applies to both Cambridge Direct and British Council-affiliated schools. In a joint statement, the two organisations confirmed that the cancellation is limited to exams scheduled for Friday only. They added that further updates regarding exams set for Monday, May 12, will be communicated to schools by Sunday evening. Exams in other parts of Pakistan are expected to proceed as planned, provided the security situation does not change. However, officials noted that any further developments would be shared promptly. 'Our priority is to support the safety of students and staff, and help students progress with their education,' the statement read. Amman, Jordan: Under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, The British Council in Jordan hosted the 19th edition of the Queen Rania Outstanding UK Learner Awards on Thursday in recognition of the exceptional results of 102 Jordanian students in the IGCSE, International GCSE, International AS & A Level, GCE, and GCSE exams by Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, and OxfordAQA. In addition to celebrating the achievements of students who have completed the UK International Curriculum in Jordan, the annual ceremony also recognized the contributions of nine distinguished teachers and congratulated parents who supported their children throughout their academic journey. Speaking at the ceremony, British Council Director Exams – MENA North, Ameera Mannaa said, "The Queen Rania Outstanding UK Learner Awards are a testament to the dedication and hard work of students, teachers, and parents in Jordan,' adding that the British Council is 'committed to supporting the development of education systems in Jordan and promoting international cooperation and understanding.'
