CMAT to play famous Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury alongside other major acts
IRISH SINGER CMAT is to play the famous Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this year, it's been announced. The venue, which has a capacity of 120,000, is regarded as one of the most famous festival stages in the world. CMAT, from Dunboyne in Meath, is enjoying significant success with her singles 'Take a Sexy Picture of Me' and 'Running/Planning' ahead of the full release of her third album on 29 August. The singer was nominated for a Brit award for International Artist of the Year last year. She shared the announcement today on Instagram with the caption 'normal normal normal normal'. Advertisement 'Thank you Glastonbury for believing in us we will not let you down,' she added. CMAT, whose full name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, will take to the Pyramid Stage on the Friday at 1.30pm for an hour long set. She will perform on the stage on the same day as other major acts including Alanis Morissette and Biffy Clyro, with The 1975 to headline. The full Glastonbury lineup has been unveiled today. Neil Young, Olivia Rodrigo will also headline the Pyramid Stage, while Charli XCX, Doechii, Rod Stewart, The Prodigy, and Wolf Alice are also set to play. Belfast rap trio Kneecap remain in the lineup, after being removed from the TRNSMT festival in Scotland as the organisers said there were police concerns about safety during the group's set. Police Scotland claimed that making the set safe would require a significant operation on its part, which Kneecap questioned, stating that they have played Glasgow 'many many times with no issues – ever'. Sabrina Carpenter Joins BRIT Awards Lineup as a Performer and Honoree
Yara Sameh Sabrina Carpenter is the latest act to join the list of performers at the upcoming BRIT Awards (March 1) and will collect the global success award at the ceremony. The 'Espresso' singer will head to The O2 Arena in London to perform during the ceremony. She joins JADE, Myles Smith, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and The Last Dinner Party who were announced as performers in January. Carpenter is nominated in two categories at the ceremony — International Artist of the Year and International Song of the Year for 'Espresso.' The honorary global success award will return after a six-year absence, having been awarded between 2013 and 2019. Adele, One Direction, and Ed Sheeran each won the prize twice during that time frame. View this post on Instagram A post shared by The BRIT Awards (@brits) The performance will arrive ahead of her U.K. and Ireland tour, which begins in Dublin on March 3 and runs through Birmingham, London, and Glasgow before wrapping in Manchester on March 16. In July, she'll return for a headline appearance at BST Hyde Park in central London. Carpenter's album Short n' Sweet has been a chart mainstay in the U.K. since its release in August 2024. The LP has spent two non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 and remained in the top 10 for 24 weeks and counting. Three songs from the collection – 'Espresso,' 'Please Please Please' and 'Taste' – have all charted at No. 1 on the Official Singles Charts. Charli XCX leads all nominees at the BRITs 2025 with five nods across an array of categories. Ezra Collective, Dua Lipa, and The Last Dinner Party all gathered four nominations. Carpenter's competition in the international categories will come from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and more. Announced BRIT performers Carpenter, Shaboozey, and Swims all performed at the Grammy Awards on February 2. Carpenter sang 'Espresso' and 'Please Please Please' in an elaborate production number. Her presentation ranked high on Billboard's list of the night's best performances. Shaboozey performed 'Good News' and 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' in an extended medley of songs by best new artist candidates. That medley also featured Swims singing 'Lose Control.'

Sabrina Carpenter defends her bold stage persona: "Female artists have been shamed forever"
Sabrina Carpenter has vowed never to tone down her bold and sexy stage persona after music mogul Pete Waterman branded her performances 'offensive.' The 25-year-old pop star is determined to embrace her identity, saying critics simply cannot handle a woman confident in her own skin. Speaking to The Sun, Sabrina stated, 'My message has always been clear — if you can't handle a girl who is confident in her own sexuality, then don't come to my shows.' Sabrina, who has faced backlash for her risqué routines during her Short N' Sweet Tour , acknowledged that this kind of criticism isn't new for women in music. She explained, 'Female artists have been shamed forever. In the Noughties it was Rihanna, in the Nineties it was Britney Spears, in the Eighties it was Madonna — and now it's me.' Waterman, part of the legendary Stock Aitken Waterman trio, had accused Sabrina of setting back women's rights, stating, 'If you're asking to be respected, don't come on in a G-string.' Sabrina, however, sees such comments as hypocritical and regressive. 'It's essentially saying that female performers should not be able to embrace their sexuality in their lyrics, in the way we dress, in the way we perform,' she said. Despite the criticism, Sabrina continues to smash records. In August 2024, she became the first female artist to simultaneously hold the No. 1 album and single in the UK, with her album Short N' Sweet and hit 'Taste.' She's also nominated for International Artist of the Year at the Brit Awards in March. Sabrina concluded, 'As women, we need to be kind to each other. Confidence is key, and I'll keep owning it.'
