Sabrina Carpenter Joins BRIT Awards Lineup as a Performer and Honoree

Yara Sameh
Sabrina Carpenter is the latest act to join the list of performers at the upcoming BRIT Awards (March 1) and will collect the global success award at the ceremony.
The 'Espresso' singer will head to The O2 Arena in London to perform during the ceremony. She joins JADE, Myles Smith, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and The Last Dinner Party who were announced as performers in January.
Carpenter is nominated in two categories at the ceremony — International Artist of the Year and International Song of the Year for 'Espresso.'
The honorary global success award will return after a six-year absence, having been awarded between 2013 and 2019. Adele, One Direction, and Ed Sheeran each won the prize twice during that time frame.

The performance will arrive ahead of her U.K. and Ireland tour, which begins in Dublin on March 3 and runs through Birmingham, London, and Glasgow before wrapping in Manchester on March 16. In July, she'll return for a headline appearance at BST Hyde Park in central London.
Carpenter's album Short n' Sweet has been a chart mainstay in the U.K. since its release in August 2024. The LP has spent two non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 and remained in the top 10 for 24 weeks and counting. Three songs from the collection – 'Espresso,' 'Please Please Please' and 'Taste' – have all charted at No. 1 on the Official Singles Charts.
Charli XCX leads all nominees at the BRITs 2025 with five nods across an array of categories. Ezra Collective, Dua Lipa, and The Last Dinner Party all gathered four nominations. Carpenter's competition in the international categories will come from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and more.
Announced BRIT performers Carpenter, Shaboozey, and Swims all performed at the Grammy Awards on February 2.
Carpenter sang 'Espresso' and 'Please Please Please' in an elaborate production number. Her presentation ranked high on Billboard's list of the night's best performances. Shaboozey performed 'Good News' and 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' in an extended medley of songs by best new artist candidates. That medley also featured Swims singing 'Lose Control.'

Louis Tomlinson Could Never Perform as Part of One Direction after Liam Payne's Death: Rep

Yara Sameh Louis Tomlinson has no plans to reunite with his One Direction members anytime soon after the death of one of their own. Earlier this year, rumors circulated that after the tragic death of Liam Payne in October, his bandmates Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik might join forces for a tribute at the BRIT Awards on March 1. However, the reunion didn't happen — and in a new interview with The Standard, a PR manager for Tomlinson, 33, said it likely never will. 'Louis just despairs. He could never get up there and sing as part of the band after what has happened,' the representative said. One Direction announced an indefinite hiatus in 2015, months after Malik left the band. Each member went on to have a solo career, and the group never made a public appearance together again. The day after Payne died on October 16 after falling from his balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Tomlinson shared an emotional tribute to Instagram, saying he 'would have loved to share the stage with [Payne] again but it wasn't to be.' 'I am beyond devastated to be writing this but yesterday I lost a brother. Liam was somebody I looked up to everyday, such a positive, funny, and kind soul,' he wrote. 'I first met Liam when he was 16 and I was 18, I was instantly amazed by his voice but more importantly as time went on I got a chance to see the kind brother I'd longed all my life for." The 'Miss You' singer said he considered Payne 'the most vital part of One Direction' thanks to his experience, perfect pitch, stage presence and songwriting abilities. 'Thank you for shaping us Liam,' he wrote. Tomlinson concluded his post with a message to Payne that made a promise to the late star's son Bear, 7, whom he shared with ex-partner Cheryl. 'I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was,' he wrote. 'I wish I got [the] chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you. Payno, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you mate. Sleep well x.' Tomlinson, Styles, Malik and Horan all attended Payne's funeral in November, and the day after his death, the surviving band members issued a rare group statement — their first since Malik left the band in 2015. "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing," the statement began. "In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever." In January, Tomlinson attended Malik's tour stop in Los Angeles and was given a shoutout from the stage. "Tonight is kind of special. An old friend of mine is here supporting me tonight," Malik, 32, told the audience, per footage on social media, before looking to the balcony and adding, "He's sitting somewhere here. I don't want to give his location away, but Louis is here tonight." Tomlinson put out his second album, "Faith in the Future" in 2022 and recently launched the fourth collection in his 28 clothing brand, which he founded in August 2023.

Charli XCX Dominates BRIT Awards 2025

Yara Sameh Charli XCX gave the BRIT Awards, the U.K.'s leading music awards ceremony, a Brat makeover on Saturday night by scooping the biggest prizes of the night, including the album of the year prize. The singer-songwriter-producer won four awards at the ceremony: Song of the Year, Dance Act, Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year. She also collected the Honorary Songwriter of the Year prize, while Brat's executive producer A.G. Cook won Producer of the Year. Speaking when she collected the album of the year prize, Charli said: 'I used to tell myself things like this weren't important and that was easy for me to do because until last year I wasn't nominated for anything. I always felt like an outsider in the British music industry, so it feels nice to be recognized on this album when I actually haven't made any sacrifices.' Brat was one of 2024's defining records, landing at No. 1 on the U.K.'s Official Album Charts and at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. It was named the Billboard staff's album of the year. The awards took place at The O2 Arena in London and were hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall for a fifth time. Elsewhere it was a big night for Chappell Roan, who triumphed in the international artist and international song categories, beating off competition from Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Beyoncé. Sabrina Carpenter opened the show with a two-song medley of 'Espresso' and 'Bed Chem' and collected the honorary global success award. Sam Fender had a big night, winning rock/alternative act and performing the title song from People Watching. On Friday, the North Shields-born musician's third album went to No. 1 and clocked the biggest opening week for a British act in three years, topping over 100,000 units. Ezra Collective collected group of the year and shouted out youth clubs and the musical opportunities they offer, while Myles Smith challenged the U.K. government to do more for grassroots venues in his speech while collecting BRITs Rising Star. Baroque-pop group The Last Dinner Party performed 'Nothing Matters' and picked up best new artist. Like Smith, they used their speech to champion the small venues in the U.K. RAYE won best R&B act, and Stormzy shouted out his fellow nominee Central Cee when he triumphed in the best hip-hop/grime/rap. Performances came from Carpenter, Teddy Swims, Ezra Collective, Fender, The Last Dinner Party, JADE, and Lola Young. In December, the BRITs announced Luton-born singer-songwriter Myles Smith as the recipient of the 2025 BRIT Rising Star award — a new music prize that is handed out to the British act that the voting academy believes will make the biggest impact on music in the coming year. He performed his breakout song 'Stargazing' on the night. It was not Dua Lipa's night: She went 0-4. The Cure and Central Cee were also shut out, despite three nominations. The nominees and winners were chosen by the BRIT Awards Voting Academy, its membership made up of musicians and industry figures; the public decided the winners of the genre categories, with voting taking place via a WhatsApp campaign.
