Rigaku Launches Fourth Generation Handheld 1064 nm Raman Analyzer for Chemical Threat Analysis at IAFC HAZMAT 2025

Wilmington, Mass., United States: Rigaku Analytical Devices, a division under Rigaku Holdings Corporation (headquarters: Akishima, Tokyo; President and CEO: Jun Kawakami), announces the launch of its fourth generation 1064 nm Raman analyzers – the Icon series, featuring enhancements in chemical threat analysis for safety and security applications. The first in the series, the Icon-X, will be showcased at The International Hazardous Materials Response Teams Conference (HAZMAT), hosted by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), in Baltimore, MD USA from June 13-14, 2025. From June 13 onward, we will begin rolling out global sales. This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: Icon-X Image The Icon-X is the first 1064 nm Raman analyzer to provide standoff chemical analysis allowing users to analyze potentially dangerous substances from a safe distance. This is critical for military, first responders, EOD, and border protection teams who could potentially be exposed to explosive threats, such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs), homemade explosives (HMEs), and chemical threats. This new, optional feature also reduces the need for time-consuming sample collection, while allowing responders to assess hazards without disrupting the scene. In addition to the new standoff capability, the Icon-X contains an on-board, comprehensive library of chemical warfare agents (CWAs), explosives, narcotics, toxic industrial chemicals, precursors, cutting agents, and more. The Icon-X features a more ergonomic form factor, with improvements in all areas over previous generations, including: Use of the latest technology for enhanced processing Illuminated keypad and larger, more responsive touchscreen for easier use Optional GPS ability to mark critical scan data for fleet management and sensitive site exploitation Upgraded 13MP camera with LED flash for more clear images Meets the MIL-STD-810H standard for durability, passing tests for shock, pressure, and extreme temperatures. It also has IP68 certification, making it fully dustproof and waterproof—ideal for tough environments and decontamination use New accessories to expand applications, such as a ball probe to scan inside a deep container As criminal networks become more sophisticated with easier access to chemicals and dangerous recipes, the need for first responders to have cutting-edge technology has never been more critical. Based on the success of Rigaku's previous generations of handheld 1064 nm Raman technology, the Icon series provides users with reliable results, allowing them to respond faster, while keeping them safe from exposure. The utilization of 1064 nm Raman technology means users can scan through translucent packaging and identify dirty or mixed substances without fluorescence issues, a common issue for older Raman technology. 'While developing the Icon Series, we considered the years of feedback received from our global network of 1064 nm Raman users and partners,' said Dr. Michael Hargreaves, Vice President of Science & Technology at Rigaku Analytical Devices. 'This allowed us to take a proven, field-accessible technology to the next level, and really expand the capabilities of handheld Raman spectroscopy. ' The Rigaku Icon-X will be demonstrated in booth #314 at the IAFC Hazmat Show in Baltimore, MD USA from June 13-14, 2025. The Rigaku Icon-X joins the award-winning 1064 nm fleet of Rigaku CQL analyzers and is supported by Rigaku's global sales and distribution channels. What does a Red Flag Warning mean for West Virginia?

CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — Much of West Virginia and its surrounding states were placed under a Red Flag Warning Wednesday morning, which warns of potential 'fire weather.' The warning issued by the National Weather Service said that between 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, much of West Virginia will see 'an enhanced risk for wildfire ignition and spread.' The warning added that winds will tend to blow between 10-20 miles per hour with gusts up to 35 miles per hour. Humidity will also reach levels as low as 10 percent, creating especially dry conditions throughout the state. On top of that, temperatures are expected to climb up to 85 degrees Wednesday. Statewide burning restrictions to begin March 1 in West Virginia So what should West Virginians do? Unlike typical weather alerts that typically advise people to shelter in place, Red Flag Warnings put more emphasis on being vigilant. The International Association of Fire Chiefs asks people to follow the instructions provided by their local fire department and to be aware of anything that can spark a fire. The organization also recommends that people have a plan to get out quickly should a fire spark in or near their home. Wednesday's Red Flag Warning falls just a few weeks into West Virginia's forest fire season, which prohibits people from burning most fires between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. These restrictions are set to remain in effect until May 31. The West Virginia Division of Forestry releases a daily map of places around the state that are forecast to have elevated fire danger. Why does it mean to be under a ‘Red Flag Warning?'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City metro is under a Red Flag Warning this week, and law enforcement officers have been sharing posts online in an attempt to inform the public on the precautions they need to take during the windy and dry conditions. But, even though some may know what a Red Flag Warning is, others might be asking themselves, 'What does this even mean?' View the latest Weather Alerts in the Kansas City region on FOX4 Well, here's everything you need to know: According to the , a Red Flag Warning is when 'warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger.' This means that under these conditions, fires can rapidly grow and spread to other high-risk areas, potentially risking people's lives, ecosystems, as well as private and protected property. The NWS has a variety of safety tips and warnings to keep in mind when your region is under a Red Flag Warning. : If you are allowed to burn in your area, all burn barrels must be covered with a weighted metal cover, with holes no larger than 3/4 of an inch. Do not throw cigarettes or matches out of a moving vehicle. They may ignite dry grass on the side of the road and become a wildfire. Extinguish all outdoor fires properly. Drown fires with plenty of water and stir to make sure everything is cold to the touch. Dunk charcoal in water until cold. Do not throw live charcoal on the ground and leave it. Never leave a fire unattended. Sparks or embers can blow into leaves or grass, ignite a fire, and quickly spread. Additionally, here are a few other safety tips provided by the International Association of Fire Chiefs: Equipment Avoid using lawn mowers in dry vegetation. Follow all local fire restrictions on the use of chainsaws, mowers and other equipment during high risk times Dozens of wildfires burn across Missouri, Kansas as fire danger continues this week Be mindful and follow any fire restrictions or burn bans in your area. Obtain a permit if needed. Extinguish outdoor fires properly and never leave them unattended. Always drown them with plenty of water. Soak ashes and charcoal in water and dispose of them in a metal can. These materials can reignite days after a fire or BBQ is extinguished. Report unattended outdoor fires immediately to 911. Vehicles NEVER throw cigarettes or matches out of a vehicle. They can ignite grasses on the side of the road and start a wildland fire. Do not drive your vehicle in dry tall grass. The underside of your vehicle is hot and can easily ignite grasses from your exhaust muffler. Ensure trailer chains do not drag on the ground. Lastly, always make sure you are situationally aware. Keep up to date with weather reports from the and monitor your local fire departments for any information about fire risks near you. If you want to be extra prepared, have a 'GO' bag with any prescription medications, essential documents, money, food, clothes, etc., to ensure you have everything you need in case a fire pops up in your area.
