Arab League Official Calls for Enhanced Global Solidarity with Palestinian Media Amid Ongoing Violations

Mohamed Mandour Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Media and Communication Sector, on Tuesday called for intensified Arab and international solidarity with Palestinian media outlets, describing the media as a vital front in supporting political, diplomatic, and human rights efforts for the Palestinian cause. Speaking during the 25th session of the Arab Broadcasting Union (ABU) in Hammamet, Tunisia, Khattabi made his remarks following a presentation by Ahmed Assaf, Supervisor of Palestinian Official Media. He praised the professional role of Palestinian media and reiterated the Arab League's coordinated support for Palestinian narratives amid escalating violations by Israeli forces. Khattabi condemned what he described as 'grave and systematic violations' committed by the Israeli occupation, including the suppression of Palestinian digital platforms and the targeting of journalists. He highlighted the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, noting that at least 230 journalists have been targeted since October 7, 2023, making the territory one of the most dangerous in the world for media professionals. Calling the attacks an 'unprecedented criminal violation of international law,' Khattabi said the designation of May 11 as the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Media sends a powerful message that the Palestinian issue transcends regional borders and appeals to the global conscience. The ambassador also noted that the Arab League had organized a symposium involving media professionals, diplomats, and academics to counter what he called the 'false Israeli narrative.' He pointed to the erosion of this narrative due to the perseverance of Palestinian journalists and growing international scrutiny. Khattabi referenced resolutions by the Council of Arab Information Ministers supporting the Arab Media Strategy and Action Plan, and welcomed a Palestinian proposal to establish a special international criminal court to prosecute crimes against journalists. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Arab League renews solidarity with Palestinian media

CAIRO, May 11 (KUNA) -- The Arab League's Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector Ahmad Khattabi, expressed on Sunday the League's full solidarity with Palestinian media as the Israeli occupation continues its aggression. In a statement, marking the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Media, Khattabi pointed out that 212 journalists have been killed as of the end of April 2025, in addition to at least 400 others being injured. He added that these violations reached their peak during the war on Gaza by targeting journalists performing their duties under dangerous humanitarian conditions, similar to the rest of the defenseless civilians suffering from ongoing bombing, blockade, and starvation. Khattabi reiterated the Arab League's condemnation of Israel's ongoing restrictions on Palestinian media and its violation to International law, particularly Article 79 of the Geneva Conventions, which protects journalists in conflict zones. The Arab League commemorated International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Media on May 11, in accordance with the decision made by the Council of Arab Information Ministers during its 52nd session held in Cairo in September 2022.
