"Each year Yoga day becomes grander than ever": PM Modi on International Yoga Day celebrations in 'Mann Ki Baat'

New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the recent celebrations on the International Yoga Day in which lakhs of people participated from all walks of life. In his address to the nation through the 123rd edition of his monthly radio program 'Mann ki Baat' PM Modi , he said, 'All of you must be filled with the energy of Yoga and memories of International Yoga day. This year too, on June 21, crores of people took part in the international day of Yoga celebrations. It began 10 years ago, over these years, every year this tradition is becoming even more grand than before. This also indicates that more and more people are incorporating yoga in their daily lives.' He spoke about the mesmerising visuals from across the country, including in Visakhapatnam, from where the PM led the largest ever Yoga gathering of three lakh people. 'We saw many mesmerising images of this celebration. In Visakhapatnam, 3 lakh people performed Yoga together on the beach. Another incredible sight from Visakhapatnam was that over 2,000 tribal students performed 108 surya namaskars for 108 minutes. Imagine the discipline needed. A grand display of Yoga was showcased on our naval ships,' PM Modi said. As the golden dawn broke over the spellbinding coastline of Visakhapatnam and the waves of the Bay of Bengal whispered in rhythm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation and yoga enthusiasts across the world in celebrating the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21. The record has officially been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records. Talking about the celebrations across the country, he mentioned states like Telangana, Jammu and Kashmir, and others in which people participated enthusiastically, including from the armed forces, tribal students, and divyang people. 'In Telangana, 3,000 divyang friends came together for a yoga camp. They showed how Yoga can be a powerful means of empowerment. Connecting Yoga with the resolve of clean Yamuna, people of Delhi performed Yoga on the river banks. In Jammy and Kashmir, at Chenab bridge, at the world's highest railway bridge. ITBP jawans at Himalayas also performed at the snow-capped peaks, showcasing a blend of courage and spiritual discipline' he said. 'People of Gujarat, in Vadnagar also set a new record, when 2,121 people performed bhujangasanas (Cobra pose) together,' he added. The PM also mentioned international participation, across Indian embassies and otherwise. 'New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, pictures of yoga were from every major place in the world. Every image conveyed a special message of peace, satability and balance. This year's theme was also special, Yoga for one earth, for Health. 150-yr-old Kanale temple tells a forgotten story in colour

Sagar: Tucked away in the lush interiors of Karnataka's Sagar- Kanale region lies a neglected gem of artistic and spiritual heritage — the Sri Eshvara Temple, once adorned with murals believed to be over 150 years old. Today, these intricate wall paintings, once brimming with local folklore and sacred narratives, face a slow erosion, both by time and human oversight. On this International Yoga day, Prof. SA Krishnaiah brings this to the public domain in his one research parlance. 'The attic of this temple has a mural that shows Yoga and Kundalini and the mandalas which needs to be restored immediately as it is showing erosion and heavy weathering' The temple's architecture evokes the grandeur of the Vijayanagara style, reminiscent of Hampi's stone marvels. But what set it apart were its now-lost murals: elaborate cartwheel motifs and narrative wall paintings that reportedly conjured the illusion of a temple car festival in full swing. 'There was once a sense that the walls moved with life — the divine procession almost felt real,' recalled a local elder, lamenting the fact that many of these visuals were erased during a routine whitewashing drive. Only fragments of the original glory remain today — on the decaying roof above the front staircase. In adjacent spaces, faint images of mythological figures like Shakkini and Daakini peek through layers of time. Some portions of the temple's attic, accessible only by ladder, still bear Kannada script inscriptions and pictorial sagas, offering rare glimpses into the devotional storytelling of a bygone era. The surrounding village of Kanale, about 12 to 15 kilometres from Sagar and nestled near Mandagalale and Kagod, is known for its educated populace. Yet few are aware of the spiritual and cultural significance etched into the temple's fading murals and mud walls. Adding to the site's quiet allure is a serene temple lake, reflecting the temple's image in still waters — a picturesque metaphor for the stillness of preservation. Efforts to revive interest in this mural heritage have found some champions. Dr. Venkatesh Jois and Professor S. A. Krishnaiah have been instrumental in bringing the temple's mural art to scholarly attention, documenting what remains and urging for immediate conservation. As mural fragments crumble and colours fade, Kanale's Eshvara Temple stands as both a testament to regional artistry and a reminder of how easily heritage can be lost. The time to act — to restore and protect what little remains — is now says Prof. Krishnaiah.

On June 21, 2025, the people of Kurukshetra woke up with a new energy in their heart, and more flexibility in their body. Why? On the occasion of International Yoga Day , Baba Ramdev , CM Nayab Singh Saini, and Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, performed Yoga together along with Acharya Balkrishna and thousands of people who came from all over Haryana and Delhi to make the mission of International Yoga day a success. And so the pure and pious land where Lord Krishna gave some of his best wisdom and knowledge to Arjuna, during the Mahabharat, also became the land where Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna inspired lakhs of people to take up Yogic practices and make them an everyday routine. In Brahma Sarovar, Kurukshetra, people came dressed in light, breezy clothes, beating the heat of the day, and sat on Yoga mats to follow along with the Yoga asanas Baba Ramdev. His conversational style, his inspiring words, and the humour he sprinkled through in his interaction with the people could motivate anyone to move a leg and perform Yoga alongside. The Yoga session started with a beautiful Shankhnaad by Baba Ramdev, and soon he told the audience about how people would come to him and say 'Oh, I cannot do Yoga', and to them he would explain 'Yoga is as simple as moving and stretching a finger. It is easy, and if you cannot do this, things will get difficult.' He also gave the slogan of 'Sabke liye Yoga, Sab ka isme Sahyog', which translates to 'Yoga is for everyone and we need everyone's efforts and help to further it'. He also said that if every citizen adopts yoga daily, India could save up to ₹10 lakh crore annually on healthcare. 'Yoga has the potential to bring India's health budget down to zero,' he said. The area of Brahma Sarovar was filled with young children, men, women, elders, and more, and everyone was enthusiastic about starting their practice along with Baba Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, the CM and Governor of Haryana, and the volunteers from Patanjali yogpeeth. That's the main reason I do Iyengar yoga; the physical benefits are secondary" and continues, 'Today there is one form of yoga which I call the fashion yoga. They play loud music and do yoga.
