Grand Forks aviation gas tanker crash causes fuel spill
Apr. 14—GRAND FORKS — Between 200 and 500 gallons of Avgas were spilled Sunday afternoon in Grand Forks as a result of a crash involving an Aviation gas tanker. The Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 4:05 p.m. Sunday, April 13, to 2475 Airport Dr., according to a press release. Fire crews encountered a substantial leak near the rear of the tanker; though fuel was running out of the ventilation stack of the vehicle, the tank itself was not damaged, the release said. Using sand and containers, fire crews were able to contain much of the lost fuel. Interstate Towing was contacted to upright the tanker truck. Firefighters used foam to protect the surrounding area from ignition sources during the lift, which was executed successfully, the release said. The fire department responded with a total of seven personnel across one HazMat vehicle, one engine and one command vehicle. The agency was assisted by the Grand Forks Police Department, UND Police Department, GFK firefighters, Interstate Towing, UND Support and Altru Ambulance.

Icy roads cause crashes and spinouts across western Massachusetts
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Another winter snowstorm hit our region, and with it came ice and freezing temperatures. Cleanup was underway as another winter storm left behind snow, slush, and ice. The general manager at Interstate Towing in Chicopee, Stephen Gonneville, says there's been a lot of spinouts and crashes throughout the day that they've been reported to. And with freezing temperatures to continue through the night and into the morning, he says people should take precautions. 'Please slow down.,' urges Gonneville. 'You cannot stop on ice. People with four-wheel drive vehicles can go fast, but they still can't stop. You have to watch your speed while operating in these conditions.' He adds in case of an emergency where you are stranded on the side of the road have items packed like a blanket, food, or water, and if you see a tow truck working on the side of the road slow down and move over.
