Two Girls Killed by Houthi Landmine in Yemen's Al Bayda Governorate
Two teenage girls were killed on Saturday when a landmine planted by the Houthi militia exploded in the Al-Ghoul area of Naaman District, Al Bayda Governorate, central Yemen
According to the Yemeni Mine Observatory, the victims were identified as Aisha Hussein Al-Salihi, 14, and Intisar Abdulrab Al-Salihi, 17. The two girls were reportedly herding sheep when the explosion occurred in an area heavily contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance.
The Observatory noted that Al-Ghoul has witnessed multiple similar incidents in recent years, including one that killed Intisar's mother in a previous landmine blast.
Al Bayda is among several Yemeni governorates severely affected by landmines allegedly planted by the Houthi militia along roads, in farmland, and near civilian areas. Over the past decade, the widespread use of anti-personnel and anti-vehicle mines has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, many of them women and children.
