Caitlin Clark's Boyfriend Quietly Honors Former Player After Sudden Death
The college football world was rocked over the weekend by the sudden passing of former Minnesota defensive back Charles 'Ace' Rogers, who collapsed during the Brooklyn Half Marathon. Rogers, just 31 years old, went into cardiac arrest near Ocean Parkway and 18th Avenue after completing roughly eight miles of the race as reported by the New York Post. Emergency medical personnel responded swiftly, but he was later pronounced dead at Maimonides Medical Center. The news hit hard for former Iowa Hawkeye's — including Caitlin Clark's boyfriend, Connor McCaffery. Advertisement On Sunday, McCaffery took to Instagram with a tribute to Rogers. He didn't share a caption, emoji, or written statement. Instead, he simply reposted an image of Rogers in his Minnesota uniform, alongside the dates '1994–2025.' It was a gesture that spoke volumes without saying a word. Kate Martin's Dad Has Strong Words for Caitlin Clark
The WNBA opens its 2025 season on Friday, and all eyes will be on the league's top stars. Interest in the WNBA has surged recently, thanks in large part to the standout players now filling rosters across the league. One of the brightest stars is Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. Now in her second year, the former Iowa Hawkeye and All-American won Rookie of the Year last season and helped lead the Fever to the playoffs. She's aiming even higher in 2025. Advertisement While at Iowa, Clark formed a close friendship with Kate Martin. Martin also played in the WNBA last season with the Las Vegas Aces and was acquired by the Golden State Valkyries during the offseason. She's seen firsthand how the women's basketball world works and the unique pressures that come with it. Recently, Kate Martin's father, Matt Martin, joined Matt Randazzo for an interview in the Quad Cities. During the conversation, he spoke on several topics, including Caitlin Clark—and he didn't hold back. "Kate Martin's father was interviewed recently and brought up the evolution of Kate and Caitlin's relationship while at Iowa. He sees the attention on Caitlin as a positive, since it brings visibility to other players. Metro man plays it cool as he surprises wife with $100,000 scratch-off win
DES MOINES, Iowa — A West Des Moines man is $100,000 richer after winning one of the top prizes in an Iowa Lottery scratch-off ticket game. The Iowa Lottery said Jeff Spiess, 59, stayed calm and collected as he shared the news with his wife. 'I didn't jump up and down or anything. I was really quiet about it,' said Spiess. Where does Iowa's 'Best Burger' of 2025 hail from? He and his wife were scratching off 'X the Money' tickets after dinner when he noticed he'd won $100,000. Before telling his wife, he checked it several times and scanned it with the Iowa Lottery app. Spiess told his wife to watch his phone as he scanned the ticket a second time, not telling her up front that he knew the ticket was already a winner. His wife gasped and hugged him after she saw the prize of $100,000. Spiess claimed his prize Thursday. He said he may put the money toward paying bills, saving for retirement, and buying a new car. The ticket was bought at the Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh at 425 S. Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. Mike Tomlin addresses concerns about Kaleb Johnson's speed on Steelers offense
Mike Tomlin addresses concerns about Kaleb Johnson's speed on Steelers offense Concerns have already begun to circulate around the newest Steelers running back, third-rounder Kaleb Johnson out of Iowa. Johnson, measuring 6'1" and weighing 224 pounds, is a bruiser-style running back who ran a 4.57 at the scouting combine — not exactly the speedy rusher the Steelers were reportedly targeting in the draft. HC Mike Tomlin, however, reminded everyone that there is a difference between game speed and 40 times. When asked about the Iowa Hawkeye's top-end speed concerns at the Steelers' Post-Draft Press Conference, Tomlin clarified that no one is worried: 'We didn't question his speed whatsoever watching the video — and oftentimes that's the case. You can watch video and be really excited about someone's speed, or you can go to the combine and get excited by their 40 time. His speed was not in question on the video. He broke a lot of long runs in the Big Ten, as we talked about earlier.' Johnson will likely push RB Jaylen Warren for the Steelers' RB1 role, as the Iowa Hawkeye proved in 2024 that he can contribute right away for any offense.
