Here's an early look at how One UI 8 will read your Now Brief aloud

Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung is working on an audio version of the Now Brief feature that could arrive with One UI 8. We recently discovered code referencing the feature in One UI 8 firmware, and we now have an early look at the Listen Brief option in action. Samsung is working on adding text-to-speech functionality to One UI's Now Brief feature, which debuted with the Galaxy S25 series this January. Earlier today, we spotted evidence of an upcoming Listen Brief button while digging through One UI 8 firmware. We now have an early look at this functionality, along with a few other changes set to arrive in One UI 8. X user IposDev has shared a screen recording showcasing the upcoming Listen Brief feature. As speculated, the feature essentially reads the Now Brief page out aloud. While the clip doesn't reveal exactly how users will be able to trigger the feature, the code snippets we saw earlier today suggest that Samsung will add a 'Listen Brief' button in One UI 8 to play the summary. In addition, the feature may offer playback controls to pause, play, or stop the audio briefing and give users the option to select their preferred text-to-speech engine. Along with the Listen Brief demo, IposDev has shared a clip revealing a new notification opening animation that expands the notification to fill the screen when you tap on it. New notification opening animation from One Ui 8 Build ZYEF — IposDev (@DevOfIpos) May 13, 2025 Lastly, a screenshot showcasing One UI 8's updated Privacy and security settings page highlights a minor design change. As you can see in the attached screenshots, the updated design has a smaller shield at the top that's housed within a rectangular card with rounded corners. The section underneath it has also received a 'Security' header. Security and privacy settings in One UI 7 Security and privacy settings in One UI 8 One UI 8 is expected to deliver incremental improvements over One UI 7, as Samsung is reportedly targeting an earlier release this year. Rumor has it that the update could arrive with Samsung's next-gen foldables, with a more substantial One UI 8.5 update slated to arrive alongside the Galaxy S26 series next year. Got a tip? Your Galaxy Watch might soon tell you if you're eating enough carrots (APK teardown)

TL;DR Samsung has previously confirmed an Antioxidant Index feature for the Samsung Health app that would measure beta carotene levels through your skin. We've now discovered that the measurement will be done through a Galaxy Watch, potentially the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8. Users will have to press the pad of their thumbs on the back of a compatible watch to trigger the non-intrusive measurements. At the launch of the Galaxy S25 series earlier this year, Samsung briefly mentioned an upcoming 'Antioxidant Index' feature for the phones' Samsung Health app. This feature will measure beta carotene in your system, which is then used to deliver personalized nutrition advice to ensure you're eating right. Samsung didn't share more details about how this feature would work, but the fine print noted that Antioxidant Index will be available in 2H 2025. Thanks to One UI 8 Watch leaked APKs, we now have a better idea of how this Antioxidant Index will work. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. X user IposDev shared APKs allegedly from the upcoming One UI Watch 8 update. The Samsung Health APK shared within includes new strings about the upcoming Antioxidant Index feature. The strings tell us that measurements for the Antioxidant Index feature will be handled by a watch, most likely a recent or newer Galaxy Watch. The measurement will be done non-intrusively through the skin, by pressing your thumb on the back of the watch. Code Copy Text To measure, press the pad of your thumb firmly on the center of the sensor on the back of your watch. You can check measurement progress on your phone. If you're wondering what that would look like, we also spotted a helpful graphic demonstrating this action: AssembleDebug / Android Authority It's unclear if the current Galaxy Watches are equipped to measure beta carotene through your skin, so it's possible that you'd need the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 series for this. Further strings drill down the methodology: Code Copy Text For more accurate results, measure with your thumb, not your wrist, and space out measurements by at least 10 seconds. Make sure your watch is connected to your phone. Check the progress of the measurement on your phone. Place your thumb on the sensor and press firmly. We also spotted a companion graphic to showcase what the screen would look like on the Galaxy Watch: AssembleDebug / Android Authority Other strings indicate that the Antioxidant Index feature will mention your daily average, and whether your readings are 'adequate' or 'low.' The watch graphic shows that this is a Labs feature, which is usually used to indicate that the feature is still being worked upon and shouldn't be relied on. Samsung Health also further warns that the antioxidant index measurement is not to be used for diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition: Code Copy Text "Keep in mind that antioxidant index measurement is for fitness and wellness only, not for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. If you're concerned about your antioxidant level, be sure to see a medical professional." As mentioned earlier, the Antioxidant Index feature is slated for release in the second half of the year. Samsung hasn't yet mentioned which phones and watches will support the feature. Still, it's fair to presume that you'd need One UI 8 Watch on your Galaxy Watch to activate the functionality, and the latest Samsung Health app, perhaps on One UI 8 on your Galaxy smartphone. Reading a bit into the clues, one can also presume that One UI 8 Watch could launch in the second half of 2025, but Samsung could also merely launch the Antioxidant Index feature a few weeks/months after the rollout of One UI 8 Watch. One UI 8 Watch leak reveals how Gemini will work on Wear OS (APK teardown)

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR We've found more details about Gemini on Wear OS thanks to leaked One UI 8 Watch APKs. It looks like Wear OS will support 'Gemini Actions,' allowing the AI assistant to perform actions across different apps. Our teardown also shows that Gemini on Wear OS will be able to summarize emails, make calendar changes, and more. We recently heard that Samsung could skip One UI 7 Watch and go straight to One UI 8 Watch. Now, APKs for One UI 8 Watch have leaked, courtesy of X user IposDev. We took those APKs and started digging around, leading us to some pretty interesting information. We now have more details about how Gemini could work, not just on Samsung's Galaxy Watches but also on other Wear OS smartwatches. While Google has already confirmed that Gemini is coming to Wear OS watches, our teardown of the Google Assistant app (Wear OS version) from the leaked One UI 8 Watch APKs gives us the clearest look yet at what the AI upgrade will actually bring to your wrist. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Buried within the code are references to 'Gemini Actions,' suggesting that Wear OS users may soon enjoy the same app-linking and task automation capabilities that Gemini already supports on Android phones. Other strings from our teardown hint at specific use cases that point to Gemini's ability to manage calendar events, summarize emails, and answer general queries on Wear OS. If this functionality ships as described, Wear OS watches may soon become much more useful for productivity and day-to-day task management. Another notable string suggests Google is also thinking about ease of usability. The string likely refers to a prompt that allows users to mute Gemini's voice output with a quick tap, which would come in handy in public or during workouts. Code Copy Text Add a Gemini action Move my next meeting 30min later Summarize my last email What's the weather in London? Tap screen to mute Given that the leaked APK is tied to the One UI 8 Watch update, Samsung could be gearing up to ship Gemini on Galaxy Watches alongside (or possibly even ahead of) the wider Wear OS ecosystem. Samsung has been a close partner with Google on Wear OS since the platform's reboot, and it wouldn't be surprising if Galaxy Watches become the first to showcase these new Gemini features. Google is expected to discuss more about Gemini at I/O 2025, and with the One UI 8 Watch beta reportedly around the corner, Samsung users may get early access to Gemini on wearables. As always with APK teardowns, some features may not make the cut, but there's plenty here to get excited about. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Leak gives us our first look at One UI 8 Watch icons

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority TL;DR Leaked images from Samsung's upcoming One UI Watch 8 update reveal redesigned icons that could shift toward a squircle shape with high-contrast backgrounds. We also spot the Gemini icon, which is set to replace Assistant on Wear OS this year. We've already spoken at length about Samsung's botched One UI 7 update rollout for its phones and tablets. However, Samsung has left its Galaxy Watch users waiting for an update, with no official information about any impending 'One UI 7 Watch' update based on Wear OS 5.1. Leaks recently suggested that Samsung is looking to jump from One UI 6 Watch directly to One UI 8 Watch, and now, we get our first look at some of the new icons coming with the new update. Leaker IposDev on X has shared the new icons coming to Galaxy smartwatches with their upcoming One UI Watch 8 update. From the looks of it, Samsung could be leaning towards squircle icons on its smartwatches. However, a later comment from the leaker says they'll be round in shape on the watches, so we'll have to wait and watch to see what direction Samsung takes. There is also a prominent white background/border across all icons, which should help with contrast, but some users might find it aesthetically unpleasant. The icons are refreshed, but align with what we see on One UI 7. Eagle-eyed readers would have already spotted the Gemini-like icon. Google has already confirmed that Gemini will extend to Wear OS smartwatches, replacing Google Assistant later this year. We've also spotted this new Gemini/Assistant icon for Wear OS watches, and some users have also received the new icon, albeit clicking on it still takes them to Google Assistant and not Gemini. Leaker IposDev has also shared some of the new One UI Watch 8 APKs. These APKs are said not to be installable on older watches, but we intend to dig through them to see what new features we can discover hidden within them. Stay tuned! Got a tip? Talk to us! Samsung may be planning an unusual move for its next Galaxy Watch update

Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung might skip over the One UI 7 Watch update and go straight to One UI 8 Watch. The company is reportedly planning this to match its smartwatch software with that of its phones. One UI 8 is expected to be released in beta form next month. It's unclear whether One UI 8 Watch will be based on Wear OS 6 or Wear OS 5.1. Samsung just rolled out One UI 7, and naturally, Galaxy Watch owners have been expecting an upgrade too. Samsung is currently running One UI 6 Watch based on Wear OS 5 on its smartwatches, and One UI 7 Watch based on Wear OS 5.1 would have been the next step up. However, reports now indicate that Samsung may skip over this version entirely. According to X user IposDev and SamMobile's sources, Samsung will go directly from One UI 6 Watch to One UI 8 Watch. Yes, it seems the company is skipping a numbered version update for Galaxy Watches for the very first time. The company is apparently doing this to match its smartwatch software with that of its phones. You're probably wondering why Samsung won't release One UI 7 Watch in that case, since flagship Galaxy phones are finally running One UI 7. The answer may lie in the One UI 8 release timeline. Rumor has it that the Android 16-based One UI 8 update is right around the corner. In fact, Samsung is expected to begin beta trials for the software as soon as next month, with its stable version expected to roll out to flagship Galaxy phones in August or September. That's why it makes sense for Samsung to skip straight to One UI 8 Watch, aligning it with its phones, instead of releasing a One UI 7 Watch update that would only be relevant for a few months. So if you're a Galaxy Watch owner eagerly waiting for the Wear OS 5.1 update — which, by the way, is based on Android 15 — you might need to wait a little longer. If the reports are true, Samsung may hold off on releasing Wear OS 5.1 until it launches One UI 8 Watch, which is expected to debut with the Galaxy Watch 8 in July. What would make more sense is if Samsung launched One UI 8 Watch based on Wear OS 6, which in turn should be based on Android 16. The company has teased an innovative new design and enhanced health-related features for the upcoming Galaxy Watch refresh.
