Field Marshal Asim Munir, Bilawal among recipients of national awards
Pakistan's top civilian and military leaders were conferred with national awards on Thursday in a ceremony at the President's House, marking the country's 78th Independence Day, Aaj News reported.
President Asif Ali Zardari awarded Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu the Hilal-e-Jurat, the country's second-highest military honour, in recognition of their leadership and gallantry, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf were also decorated for their service.
Pakistan People's Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz for his role on the international diplomatic front, particularly during recent tensions with India. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, along with several federal ministers, including Khawaja Asif, Azam Nazir Tarar, Aftab Tareen, Mohsin Naqvi and Ahsan Iqbal, were honoured for their contributions in public service and governance.

Awards for bravery and meritorious service, including the Tamgha-e-Basaalat, were presented to senior officials such as Lieutenant General Asim Malik, Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence Air Vice-Marshal Muhammad Aurangzeb, Director General of Medical Oncology, Major General Kashif Abdullah, and Rear Admiral Shehzad Hamid.
The ceremony highlighted both the military's operational leadership and the government's diplomatic engagement, as Pakistan faces evolving regional challenges and seeks to project a unified national front.
