BEIRUT — Sayeh Seydal, a jailed Iranian dissident, narrowly escaped death when Israeli missiles struck Tehran's Evin Prison , where she was imprisoned. She had just stepped out of the prison's clinic, moments before it was destroyed in the blasts. The June 23 strikes on Iran's most notorious prison for political dissidents killed at least 71 people, including staff, soldiers, visiting family members and people living nearby, Iranian judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said Sunday. In the ensuing chaos, authorities transferred Seydal and others to prisons outside of Tehran — overcrowded facilities, known for their harsh conditions.

"Idris Ali, Azad Shojai and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul, who attempted to import equipment into the country to carry out assassinations, were arrested and tried for... cooperation favouring the Zionist regime," the judiciary said, referring to Israel. "The sentence was carried out this morning... and they were hanged." The executions took place in Urmia, a northwestern city near the border with Turkey on Wednesay [local time] the judiciary said, sharing photos of the three men in blue prison uniforms. Tehran regularly announces the arrest and execution of agents suspected of working for foreign intelligence services, including its arch-foe Israel. After the Iran-Israel war erupted on 13 June, Tehran vowed swift trials for people arrested on suspicion of collaborating with its arch-foe. It carried out executions of men accused of being Mossad agents on both Sunday and Monday. Iran is the world's second-most prolific executioner after China, according to human rights groups, including Amnesty International. - AFP

DUBAI, June 25 (Reuters) - Iran executed three men on Wednesday, after they were convicted of collaborating with Israel's Mossad spy agency and smuggling equipment used in an assassination, the judiciary's Mizan news agency reported. The equipment they smuggled was used in the assassination of one unnamed personality, Mizan reported without giving further details. Entangled in a decades-long shadow war with Israel before the recent open conflict, Iran has put to death many individuals convicted of having links with the Mossad and facilitating the latter's operations in the country. These range from assassinations of nuclear scientists to acts of sabotage meant to undermine Iran's nuclear programme.

'Majid Mosayebi … was hanged this morning after going through the full process of criminal procedure and after his sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court,' the judiciary's Mizan Online website said. Mosayebi was accused of seeking to provide 'sensitive information … to Mossad'. Iran has carried out multiple arrests of people suspected of spying for Israel since the start of its bombing campaign against the Islamic republic on June 13. Later on Sunday, judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said three people had been arrested in the western province of Kermanshah on allegations of espionage The arrests were made thanks to 'the rapid presence of the population and their assistance to the intelligence services, law enforcement agencies and judicial officers', he said.
