Fontaines DC display words ‘Israel is committing genocide' on screen at sell-out gig
The phrases "Free Palestine" and "Israel is committing genocide" were projected onto screens during Fontaines DC's sold-out London concert on Saturday night. The Irish post-punk band's lead singer, Grian Chatten, captivated the 45,000-strong crowd with his commanding stage presence. Dressed in a kilt and a Sinead O'Connor t-shirt, Chatten energised the audience, at times carrying the microphone by the pole or performing empty-handed, as he moved along the gangway above the vast crowd. He rarely broke the music to speak, but dedicated one song to his 'little girl' and briefly echoed a chant of 'free Palestine' that was started by the audience. Grainy live recordings of the Finsbury Park performance and crowd played on large screens on either side of the stage. Both screens cut from the vintage-style footage to 'Free Palestine' written in the gothic font of the band's logo, as Chatten sang the I Love You lyrics: 'Selling genocide and half-cut pride, I understand. I had to be there from the start, I had to be the f****** man'. A piece of music equipment on the north London stage was wrapped in a Palestinian flag and onlookers also waved them in the crowd. Ecstatic fans of the five-person Brit award-winning band descended into mosh pits for several songs, including upbeat Here's the Thing. Their slower track Romance was preceded by a minutes-long montage of surreal clips, including a pig and a crying heart-shaped head in different snow globes. The last song finished and 'Israel is committing genocide. Use your voice' came up on the screens. Chatten closed the set with simply 'cheers London, thank you very much' and a wave. Prior to the performance, Chatten joined Kneecap, who were supporting, to perform their collaboration Better Way To Live. Wearing a silver jacket and glasses, he embraced and sang with the trio and shouted 'free Palestine'. Australian rock band Amyl and the Sniffers also warmed up for the band. Next month will see 'the second time Kneecap have beat the British Government in court', the Irish rap trio said at the gig. The crowd watched them walk on in front of a screen that said 'Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people'. People echoed the Belfast group's chants when they repeated the 'f*** Keir Starmer' and 'you're just a s*** Jeremy Corbyn' comments made at Glastonbury the previous weekend. Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs as Mo Chara, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court earlier this month charged with a terror offence and will return next month. Fellow member Naoise O Caireallain, who uses the stage name Moglai Bap, said 'if anyone's free on the 20th of August, you wanna go to the court and support Mo Chara' before shouting 'free Mo Chara, free, free Mo Chara'. Wearing a keffiyeh, O hAnnaidh responded: 'I appreciate it, the 20th of August is going to be the second time Kneecap have beat the British Government in court – in their own court, on their own terms, and we're going to beat them for the second time. 'I tell you what, there is nothing like embarrassing the British Government.'

A ROCK band has been forced to cancel huge gigs, as they issued an apology to their gutted fans. They told them 'this is a bitter pill to swallow,' while revealing the news on Wednesday. 3 The Murder Capital have announced that they've cancelled their US and Canada tour dates, specifying travel and financial uncertainties as the reason. Posting on social media, the band said: 'With heavy hearts, we have to cancel our tour this autumn due to unforeseen financial challenges and the ongoing travel uncertainties. 'This is a bitter pill to swallow. We hope you know how much we wanted to be out there playing these shows for ye all.' They continued: 'Thank you to all our fans that bought tickets, we appreciate your support and can't wait to come back as soon as the time is right. Sending you all love in these strange times. 'All our summer shows are on, we look forward to seeing everyone out there.' The Murder Capital are an Irish five-piece who released their third album in February of this year. They've since been touring the UK and Europe and they will perform in Spain on September 6, which will be their last show until November. Their tour will officially finish on November 22nd in Troyes, France. Fans have been left saddened by the news of their cancellation, as one wrote beneath the post: 'absolutely heartbroken omg :( will be waiting for the future tho!! Rock star devastated as he's diagnosed with 'very aggressive' cancer and shares snap from hospital bed Someone else said: 'so heartbroken but definitely here whenever you come back,' while others shared crying emojis. One sad fan wrote: 'This is the second time in you guys had to cancel your Canada show!!!' to which the band replied: 'Both times completely out of our control. Much love.' They were scheduled to tour the US and Canada in Autumn of this year, but have since clarified that those shows won't be played. It comes after they had a string of shows cancelled during the German leg of their tour, after their set design showed a huge Palestinian flag hanging at the back. 3

Inhaler cover Kavinsky 'Nightcall' for Like A Version
Pick up the phone, Inhaler is dialling in with their debut Like A Version, taking on Kavinsky's 'Nightcall'. Or you might know it best as the theme from the 2011 film, Drive . Steering the track away from its gritty French house foundations, the Irish band shifted into gear and transformed it into an indie anthem. The ability to make that work is impressive, really. "I think because it was a movie soundtrack, that kind of felt different to covering just a normal pop song," singer Elijah Hewson said. "That made us kind of lean into it a bit." The band's been testing the waters with their fans by playing the original track over the speakers before their sets recently, a bit of subliminal messaging for what they were planning to cover. "We almost don't overthink these kind of covers for better or for worse," bassist Robert Keating said. "But it's nice to try and be out of your comfort zone sometimes. And I think that when we pulled things out and gave the song a bit of space I feel like it kind of revealed itself to be a bit more emotional and have a bit more weight to it as well." Member of Irish rap band Kneecap charged with terrorism offence
LONDON, May 21 (Reuters) - A member of the Irish rap band Kneecap was charged on Wednesday with a terrorism offence for displaying a flag in support of Iran-backed group Hezbollah, British police said on Wednesday. Liam O'Hanna, whose stage name is Mo Chara, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18.
