WATER TRAGEDY Young man, 20s, pronounced dead at scene after getting into difficulty swimming in Kerry river as post-mortem exam due A YOUNG man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Co Kerry yesterday afternoon. The man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident that occurred on Tuesday at around 3.30pm. Gardai and emergency services attended the scene. The man was swimming in the River Flesk at Killarney, Co Kerry yesterday when he got into difficulty. The man was removed from the water but he was later pronounced deceased at the scene. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Gardai have confirmed investigations are ongoing and that a file is due to be prepared for the coroner. In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardai and emergency services were alerted to an incident where a male (aged in his 20's) encountered difficult in the water at Killarney, Co. Kerry, on Tuesday 12th August 2025 at approximately 3.30pm. "The man was removed from the water. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene. "A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. A file will be prepared for the coroner. "Investigations are ongoing." More to follow... GARDAI are investigating the death of a pensioner in Limerick City overnight. The man, aged in his 70s, was found with serious injuries in the Cornmarket area of Advertisement It's understood the man suffered the injuries as a result of being assaulted. The man was discovered near St Michael's Court shortly before midnight. Emergency services responded and the Gardai have sealed off a scene. A BUSY Irish shopping centre has been evacuated after a fire broke out. It is believed a fire broke out in the Jervis Shopping Centre car park leading to the evacuation operation. All stores in the shopping centre have been evacuated as firefighters work to make the scene safe. Images on social media show shoppers and staff on the street outside the complex after rushing from the building. Images of the scene also show smoke rising from the top of the building.
