Andrae Evans loses party nomination for Irondequoit Town Supervisor
Editor's Note: An Irondequoit representative has re-clarified the number of votes Perticone and Evans received. The story has been updated to reflect this.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Irondequoit Democrats are going in a new direction for leadership as Town Supervisor Andrae Evans faces sexual harassment allegations.
The Irondequoit Democratic Committee voted on Wednesday for their chosen supervisor candidate. Councilman John Perticone won 36 votes while Evans got 11.
This comes after an investigative report accused Evans of numerous instances of inappropriate and sexual remarks. After issuing an apology, Evans denied the allegations, saying they appear to be for political reasons.
The allegations have led to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office investigating Evans for potential criminal conduct. The Irondequoit Town Board is also expected to censure Evans at a special meeting Thursday night.
Despite the allegations, Evans said he does not plan to resign and will continue to seek re-election. The primary is in June.
