Championship club keen to snap up Northern Ireland new boy
The attack-minded midfielder is currently on loan at League One side Leyton Orient from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur. The 20 year-old has scored eight league goals in 30 appearances for the Os this term, producing a string of eye-catching display. West Brom have made a modest £1.5m bid for the Antrim native, in an attempt to prize him away from Spurs where he still has two years left on his current contract. Alternatively, Donley could join the Hawthorns club on a season-long loan deal. If the Baggies are successful, Donley will link-up with international teammate Isaac Price. Donley switched his allegiance from England to Northern Ireland in March, just days before making his senior debut against Switzerland at Windsor Park.

Progress continues but NI 'still have more growing to do'
Much has been made of the youthful nature of Michael O'Neill's new generation Northern Ireland side. So youthful, in fact, that the average age of the team that finished the game was just 22. But that was just a figure, and at Windsor Park against Switzerland on Friday you could not tell who the battle-hardened, major tournament experts were, and who were the fearless youngsters. After earning promotion from Nations League C, this was billed as a step up for Northern Ireland against a pot one team. Switzerland, while without a win in seven matches, were Euro 2024 quarter-finalists and were only knocked out on penalties by England. Isaac Price's latest moment of magic gave the hosts the lead, but the Swiss soon levelled through a header from the unmarked Vincent Sierro. They have a reputation as one of Europe's most consistent and efficient sides, but there was not a gulf in class in Belfast. In fact, it was Northern Ireland who could have won the match as Price, Lee Bonis, Ethan Gabraith and debutant Jamie Donley all had efforts to find a winner. "It was good, it was what we wanted from the game," said a satisfied O'Neill. "We scored a goal goal but, we're disappointed with the goal that we lost. "If you look at the age of our team, against a really strong team - yes, they are missing some important players, but so are we. "I think it shows a lot of progress in the team. We weren't overawed by the opposition." Price on target as Northern Ireland draw with Switzerland 'Lots of positives' in Switzerland draw - O'Neill O'Neill was pleased with the work from his side off the ball, as they allowed Switzerland to dominate possession but chances for the visitors were few and far between. After a difficult Euro 2024 campaign, in which an injury-ridden NI fell short of qualification, O'Neill's side have now lost just twice in 11 matches - one of which was to European champions Spain and the other a narrow defeat on a heavy pitch in Bulgaria. Friday's draw shows that things are moving in the right direction ahead of the start of 2026 World Cup qualifying in September. For O'Neill, continuing that momentum is key. "The cycle for Euro 2024 was a difficult one, we were never going to be able to compensate for the players we lost," O'Neill added. "We didn't have players ready made to come in. We're probably benefiting from that now because we had to play the younger players in that point in time. "There is momentum and it's good for the players, because when they started to play international football, maybe they weren't winning a lot of games. "It's not like they are coming from the culture of, 'Oh, we're used to winning', so to give them that and get that experience at international level is vital. "We have a really good group of lads - how they work as a group and what they are like around the hotel, it's a really easy group to manage and I think they have a lot of growing still to do." While Isaac Price, who O'Neill says is a "brilliant young player", stole the headlines after another superb goal, Northern Ireland's player of the night was arguably Ethan Galbraith, who continues to grow in stature every time he pulls on the green shirt. The Leyton Orient midfielder also caught the eye of O'Neill, who said the 23-year-old produced "a really good performance". "He's another player who looks really comfortable playing international football," O'Neill added. "Technically he's so good as well. I always hoped Ethan would come through and I'm delighted that he has." When on the books of Manchester United, it was almost assumed it was a case of when not if Galbraith would play for Northern Ireland's senior team. However, after electing to drop down the leagues upon leaving Old Trafford, Galbraith has taken the long road to the international stage and O'Neill feels it was worth the wait. "Ethan was a terrific young player, and it's a difficult situation to come through and be a player at Manchester United. "He's had to go back down the leagues and I think Leyton Orient and [manager] Richie Wellens has been brilliant for him." O'Neill added that "everyone knew the talent was there" with Galbraith, who also had a spell at Doncaster Rovers. "It sometimes just takes a little bit longer for it to fall into place. "His mentality is a lot stronger now, his physical attributes are stronger - but his ability on the ball was never in question." After Friday's solid performance, Northern Ireland will be tested again in Stockholm against Sweden on Tuesday evening, who are on a resurgent run after dropping into League C. O'Neill admits he doesn't have the depth to "change the side dramatically and expect the team to be just as strong", but says he will likely freshen things up. "Sweden are a good side. I'm not sure whether [Newcastle United striker Alexander] Isak will play and I believe [Sporting Lisbon's Victor] Gyokeres is out, but they have good players and it will be a test for us. "The players should gain confidence from tonight's game and take that into Tuesday."

Family touch adds to 'special' moment for Price
Northern Ireland midfielder Isaac Price said that it will be "really special" to have his Belfast-born grandmother at Friday night's friendly game against who was born in England, qualifies to play for Michael O'Neill's side through his grandmother, who lived in Northern Ireland before moving to 21-year-old is excited play in front of her for the first time at senior level for his country in a game that will be live on BBC Northern Ireland, iPlayer and the BBC Sport website."This is the first one [she is attending] and I don't know how to be honest," Price told BBC Sport NI."I thought she had come to a few but I'm looking forward to playing in front of her and I'm sure she'll be proud. I started playing for Northern Ireland when I was 15 and she started coming to the games then at youth level so to have her here in front of a full Windsor Park will be special." 'There was no real doubt I wanted to play for NI' In a wide-ranging interview with BBC Sport NI's Stephen Watson, Price credits his grandmother on playing a key role in his decision to choose to play for Northern Ireland over England."My grandma had a big influence on it but also the commitment Northern Ireland showed to me. I got picked since I was 15 and I went through all the age groups and now I'm here," he added."Michael has put a lot of trust in me so there was no real doubt I wanted to play for Northern Ireland. "Anyone who asks me will get the same answer; I love playing here and I love the group of lads here."The 18-times capped midfielder, who started his career at Everton, has recently returned to England with Championship side West Bromwich Albion after a stint in Belgium with Standard just 19 at the time of the move, Price admitted he underestimated just how difficult the switch would be, but that he enjoyed his time on the pitch which helped "progress" his career."I was a bit naive when I first went over about how big a jump it would be moving to a different country, with a different language and adapting to a different style of football, but I think it stood me well," he explained."The lifestyle was hard, I was living on my own and there wasn't a lot to do, I probably didn't think much about that when I was going over, but I played all the games and it helped me get into the Northern Ireland team, so I'm grateful."His form in Belgium earned him a January switch to the Baggies, and he netted his first goal for the club before the international break in a 1-1 draw against Hull City."I loved playing over there [in Belgium], but I'm buzzing to be back in England. I settled in as soon as I joined, and I feel at home there." 'I've watched hat-trick goal over 100 times' Price has scored six times in his 18 caps with three of those goals coming in a 5-0 victory against Bulgaria in a Nations League game in scoring a hat-trick that night, Price became the youngest ever NI player to score three times in a admits he still rewatches the goals from that game, the third of which was a stunning 25-yard effort."It's still a little bit surreal, it probably won't sink in until my career has finished, and I look back," he said."It was a big achievement, scoring a hat-trick, is not easy to do so to do it at international level and at home in front of a full Windsor, it's the best footballing night I have had and I'm sure it will be hard to top. "I have had a few watches of it [the hat-trick] on YouTube and the last goal I must have watched it over 100 times!"Price is hungry for more success with Northern Ireland after a strong 2024 in which O'Neill's side suffered just two believes the double-header against Switzerland at Windsor and away to Sweden will act as ideal preparation ahead of the World Cup qualifiers starting in September."We back ourselves and these games will be a good test to see where we stand against nations ranked top 25 in the world. "There won't be any fear, and we'll look to go and beat both teams."
