Man faces charges in shooting outside of bar on Corpus Christi's Southside
A man is facing charges for aggravated robbery, deadly conduct by discharging a firearm and evading arrest after Corpus Christi police say he shot a man outside of a Southside bar early Saturday. Isaac Rene Martinez, 27, was being held in the Nueces County Jail as of Monday afternoon, jail records show. Officers arrived at the nightclub, located in the 6500 block of Yorktown Boulevard, at 12:45 a.m. in reference to a shooting, according to a news release published online by the Corpus Christi Police Department. As more officers arrived, they found one victim at Staples and Yorktown, a 21-year-old man with injuries that were not life-threatening who was treated on scene, police said. Police said the male victim told officers that he had arrived at the business to pick someone up when someone else confronted him in the parking lot. Senior officer Jennifer Collier later confirmed that the 21-year-old man had gotten out of his vehicle to go inside of the establishment when the offender, Martinez, confronted him. Martinez tried to take property from the victim, shooting him as he began to run away, according to the news release. Martinez left the scene in his own vehicle as he continued to fire several more shots toward the business, police said. According to an update to the investigation, Martinez left the business in a vehicle and traveled south on Cimarron Boulevard. Police said that witnesses at the scene described the shooter and the fleeing vehicle. Officers found Martinez, who had driven to a dead end near Samba Drive, they said. Police ordered Martinez to stop, and when he attempted to evade them, they shocked him with a Taser and took him into custody. Police recovered a weapon from Martinez and impounded his vehicle, they said. They transported him to a local hospital for medical clearance, then took him to the City Detention Center for booking.
